Well when the last one was he fastest selling game of all time, why not?

deadreckoning6665018d ago

lol Money makes the world go ROUND.

ZBlacktt5018d ago

Yep, there are just that many suckers in life.

BuIIetproofish_5018d ago

Not impressed. Imagine if Halo: Reach, Gran Turismo 5 or Starcraft 2(no matter how unorthodox) were multiplatform. The copies sold would put Call of Duty to shame.

AAACE55018d ago

I gotta give them credit with this game!

At first I wasn't going to get it... but now I may get it used! Maybe around $30!

black ops is the last COD im going to buy.
Activision are stupid enough to keep this cash cow going, and they were smart enough to bring another developer to the game.
No thanks, IW ruined MW2, black ops wont be as good as COD4 or WaW.

mrv3215018d ago

Why not just stop at MW2 then? Your going to give Activision your money for black ops and all that is, is MW2.5 with older Russians.

SeanRL5018d ago

You'll probably say that about the next COD game too, just stop buying them.

IdleLeeSiuLung5018d ago

... or you can just buy all the CoD games you want if you enjoy them! Don't let the haters on n4g.com influence your decision to enjoy games!!!

hassi945017d ago

"shouldn't affect the arrival of Infinity Ward's 'proper' next entry in the franchise in 2011."

Aww, I was hoping that this means Infinity Ward will be able to have a 3 year development time and actually change Call of Duty around.

@R1sh12

If you enjoy it keep buying it. As for myself, I can't stand playing them for more than a few hours any more, I always get that feeling that I've played it before. I need some innovation.

edhe5017d ago

I don't know what planet birthed people like you:

"stupid enough to keep this cash cow going"

How the HELL could something that's giving you boatloads of money every year be stupid? Don't be such a dullard - the COD games are good shooters with addictive multiplayer & massive marketing with pop-culture scenarios.

It's not hard to see why it works so well.

I never played a cod before 4 - never played the mp before 6 but i enjoyed it, it was fun. Same can't be said now it's been butchered by the community.

COD will exist for a few more years, no doubt, and it will fade - just ignore it if it offends you.

NB IW didn't ruin mw2 - activision's pressure to publish & the community did that.

So theres black opps
then a sledgehammer COD
then a IW one?

this series is more milked thenanything i have ever seen atleast its of a AAA series tho THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE INJOY!

edhe5017d ago

Wouldn't make sense with the current prestige balance.

"Prestiging" is designed to take the 'average cod gamer' a year to complete, prepping them for the next one.

TrevorPhillips5018d ago

theres hundreds of more where that came from

Imperator5018d ago

Hmm, so there might be two Call of Duty games? What If they actually separate MW and COD with one new COD and one new MW every year. Wouldn't surprise me.

jerethdagryphon5018d ago

i heard somewhere that cod dev times are down to like 10 months so 2 a year

wsoutlaw875018d ago

he talks about 7 8 and 9 and we dont even have all the details on 7 yet

GamerSciz5017d ago

I mean hell, any gaming company could literally jump on the CoD bandwagon. Holy crap, CoD (a game mind you) has a band wagon...this is reminding me of those "Saw" movies. The director of the "Saw" movie stated after the first one "We will continue to make a movie just about every year until the fans get sick of it". Ugh.

JsonHenry5017d ago

Any word on Zombie mode? I don't really care for the CoD mulitplayer/singleplayer but I do like the spec. ops and zombie co-op modes.

Fishy Fingers5018d ago

I assume they're sticking to the Modern Warfare fit if they're using real world stories from the Pros.

table5018d ago

How about they just start naming with the years like sports games. Call of Duty 2011 and so forth. They'd easily get away with an ironic slap in the face of its customers.

BannedForNineYears5018d ago

It's not the 8th game in the CoD series.
Just saying.
-_-
Use subtitles.
Or use numbers.
Don't do both every once in a while! D:

DeFFeR5018d ago

1 - Call of Duty
2 - Call of Duty 2
3 - Call of Duty 3
4 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
5 - Call of Duty World at War
6 - Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
7 - Call of Duty Black Ops
EIGHT --> Looks like "8" Call of Duty from Sledgehammer games... So, YES it is the 8th game in the CoD Series.

thor5018d ago (Edited 5018d ago )

Raddog, you forgot 2 games

There were actually 2 completely distinct games released on PC - they are different to the console versions.

1 - Call of Duty
2 - Call of Duty: Finest Hour
3 - Call of Duty 2
4 - Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
5 - Call of Duty 3
6 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
7 - Call of Duty World at War
8 - Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
9 - Call of Duty Black Ops

And this is not counting portable games

Edit: the other games are...

10 - Call of Duty: Roads to Victory
11 - Call of Duty: World at War: Final Fronts
12 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized

And two small iPhone games

13 - Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies 1
14 - Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies 2

As well as one expansion pack for the original game (United Offensive).

This makes what they call "Call of Duty 8" the 15th game to be released under the Call of Duty name.

frostypants5018d ago

Thor, the ones Raddog listed are considered to be the "real" CoD games. Those other you listed are crappy console-only versions (last gen when consoles couldn't keep up with PCs) and goofy spinoffs.

thor5018d ago

Yeah but if we're talking about "milking the franchise," these games are relevant. And it's not like you can say that those games don't count because they were crappy. They were seperate CoD games, and they were full CoD games. Numbers 10-14 I wouldn't count as part of the main series though.

JumpNPlayBon5018d ago (Edited 5018d ago )

never mind...

DeFFeR5018d ago

@thor

Finest Hour and Big Red One were the console equivalent (equal) to CoD 1 & 2. Subtract them.

OK, and if we're talking mobile editions, then pong, brick breaker and Tetris are the most milked franchises on the face of the Earth. \

I will listen to an argument about portable editions, but only if they include almost every aspect as the "full release" versions that PCs and consoles get. Half the time, handheld versions of "major" releases are just meat from a stew, without all the veggies, broth and seasoning.

But, back to something near on topic - if someone says CoD 8 to you, you will know exactly which one they are talking about...

thor5017d ago

Like I said, you can discount the portable games, but Finest Hour and Big Red One were NOT console equivalents of Call of Duty 1 & 2. They were completely different games with different campaigns. Just because they started again with the numbering of the franchise doesn't change that.

Convas5018d ago (Edited 5018d ago )

I can't believe people have the nerve to call Halo milked ...

Here's Activision's schedule for COD

2010: Call of Duty: Black Ops (COD 7)
2011: Call of Duty 8
2012: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (COD9)
2013: New Gen is here? Call of Duty 10
20++: To Infinity and Beyond

HungPHAT5018d ago

COD is like Madden Now ! Expect one every year from now on

edhe5017d ago

yearly franchises are what big publishers want.. and we shouldn't mind.

It will bring in the money for publishers to let other devs do their thing - ie singularity.

NonApplicable5017d ago

Why bring up Halo? Who said anything about that here?

-SIXAXIS-5017d ago

Because both franchises are being milked.

HyperBear5014d ago

If I'm reading correctly, this is what the article said:

"Sledgehammer's Call Of Duty game will be an 'adventure FPS' spin-off from the CoD series - and shouldn't affect the arrival of Infinity Ward's 'proper' next entry in the franchise in 2011."

So, having read that:
2010: Call of Duty: Black Ops (Treyarch)
2011: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Infinity Ward)
2011: Call of Duty: 8? or 9? (Sledgehammer)

Meaning 3 Call of Duty games within the span of 12 months. If its to be believed that there will be 2 COD games next year.

6 Long Delayed Games That Might Never Happen

8CN: The world of game development is exceptionally cutthroat. While most games come and go with varying amounts of pomp and circumstance, some titles get big announcements but then never make it off the drawing board. These games are loosely organized under the term "vaporware," which, in layman’s terms, means that they are floating around in developmental hell, not officially cancelled but not about to see the light of day anytime soon.

Relientk773432d ago

The Last Guardian and Beyond Good & Evil 2

LightDiego3432d ago

I'm still waiting for Starcraft: Ghost, i think i will cancel my pre-order.

3431d ago
ApolloTheBoss3432d ago

Prey 2 should be on this list.

TheGenkz3432d ago

Prey 2 was officially canceled

ApolloTheBoss3432d ago

Wow really? I can't believe I'm just hearing this.

WeirdShroom3432d ago

RIP Prey 2, all my hope to BG&E2.

DOMination-3431d ago

BG&E2 also cancelled. Ancell said the consoles weren't good enough for his vision and then he left Ubisoft to make Wild.

NotanotherReboot3431d ago

No, he stated that the Ps3, 360 gen consoles were too under powered for his vision so he waited for this generation and Ubisoft confirmed it was still in development. Also he did not leave Ubisoft, he simply set up an indie studio outside of Ubisoft and he works back and forth between both.

xwilldemise3432d ago

The Last Guardian & Agent :'(
Still clinging on hoping they'll see the light of day on PS4 one day

MrSec843431d ago

I think both of those are happening this generation, wouldn't be shocked if we see them re-revealed at a conference next year.

nix3431d ago (Edited 3431d ago )

what about Eight Days?

they even showed us the dev demo which was impressive.

Getaway 2?

David Vonderhaar - Ideas On Dashboarding, New Combat Design?

David Vonderhaar has taken to twitter once again to talk about many different things that could possibly relate to the next Call Of Duty which Treyarch is making.

5yN4MWQU4483d ago

I haven't been super interested in Call of Duty for several years -- admittedly, however, that new logo is quite cool.

brodychet4483d ago

Yeah they have a way with making things seem cool.

Activision: No Diablo III in 2011, Call of Duty 8 will be awesome

Warp Zoned writes:

"First off, it looks like it’s unlikely that a new Blizzard game will be released in 2011. That means no Diablo III and definitely no StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. Instead, the publisher’s COO, Thomas Tippl, said to expect both games in 2012: “[O]ur outlook at this time does not include a new game from Blizzard in 2011. Should Blizzard not release a major title this year, we would expect, for planning purposes, to launch a minimum of 2 Blizzard titles in 2012.”"

Not a surprise, they are known to take ages to release games. I can wait for Diablo 3, if it means it will be as perfect as can be.

joydestroy4745d ago

yep. 2012 is when i expect to see it release

EditorAtGNG4745d ago

STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY DIABLO 3 DAMNED CALL OF DUTY CASH-IN BASTARDS! /rage off

While I didn't even expect to see this released this year (or the next) I'll still wait for an official report coming from Blizzard's own.

mastiffchild4745d ago

Well, to be fair(and I don't LIKE being fair to the Kotick "death of fun" Brigade)to them they'e actually going the OPPOSITE way to COD with Diablo3 so you should feel both safe and honoured, no? We are NOT likely to get a new Diablo every year when, as we all expect , number 3 flies off the shelves upon arrival sometime in the next two years, are we?

Blizz seems to remain fairly tightly in control of everything they make themselves so I wouldn't imagine Kotick's grubbies will be needed. Blizzard already keep Acti happy money wise by keeping that WoW train well oiled, all the time. Anyway D3 is safe, I reckon, from any COD style milkage in the near future.

If, though, console versions get made ell, are amazingly successful etc-who knows about number 4? Sorry, that upset ME.

newn4gguy4745d ago

We stopped reading after "No Diablo III".

Motion4745d ago

I haven't read this article in particular, but every other article recapping the Q1 statement has said that Blizzard will likely have the D3 beta this summer/fall and they are trying like Hell to get it released this year.

blackhammer4745d ago (Edited 4745d ago )

For 2012, I truly hope it (D3) rains only good golden drops that don't taste or feel like urine.

"The creative excellence and sheer scale of [CoD 8] and the unprecedented online universe that will accompany it will reset the bar for this genre..."

Reset the bar? It's been stuck in place for the past three years. I think I'll just rent it, play the story, then play something that won't make me want to punch an infant.
