G4TV: Naughty Bear Review

Despite a rather cliché premise, Naughty Bear has some surprisingly fun moments that encourage you to invest lots of time in it. The clever challenge modes, at their best, can be quite satisfying, and eventually, the premise rises above its hackneyed beginnings. But ultimately, while the challenges encourage replay, the environments don’t. They’re recycled far too often, and the lack of diverse places to slay becomes glaring after a few hours. Naughty Bear’s greatest irony isn’t that it goes too far with its anti-social violence, but that it doesn’t go far enough when it comes to giving you places to cheerfully pick off enemies. Stingy bears deserve punishment too.

might give it a rent to see

These are the same guys who said Deadly Premonition is one of the top 10 games of 2010. Their reviews come out later than most media outlets, so I think sometimes they just say the opposite of everyone else to get attention.

deadly premonition is a top game. so it clearly adds weight to there opinion.

3/5 = liked it? I wouldn't say so. That's a 6/10... it's a bad game, unfortunately.

SilverSlug5076d ago

Plus the 10 scale system does not work. 6 means above average, 5 means average. But everyone thinks '5 = horrible' when it really shouldn't be like that. If 5 is horrible, what is the point of 1-4?

3 means, its a OK game. OK games are games that you could play through, but didn't really move you. I played Overlord 2 cuz I liked the 'art style' and humor. The game was repetitive, I'd give it a 3/5.

I didn't hate it, but it wasn't great or good. It just was meh.

mushroomwig5076d ago

No, it's not 6/10, it's 3/5.

Plus a bad game is nothing more than an opinion, maybe you'll like it.

Try not to be such a sheep, have your own opinion on things.

3/5 converted to a 1-10 scale is 6/10 however converted to % its 80%

rating of 5 isnt enough. whats a 4? nearly perfect or above average? a 3 is garbage? IGN gave this i think a 2/10

SilverSlug5076d ago

10 works how?

what does 2 even mean? I already thought most people thought 6 was horrible?

1 - HORRIBLE
2 - Bad
3 - Alright
4 - Good
5 - Great

Easy enough to digest. I think most idiots are too busy trying to look at the score, instead of the actual content of the review. Some games get bad ratings for being 'too much like an arcade' for a racing game. I love arcade racers, I don't mind that it can't customize cars.

Not everyone agrees and the actual content is what matters, not a number in the end of a review.

I have yet to receive my review copy of it yet but I pull for this game so much. The developers were so enthusiastic about it and the premiss sounded pretty fun. Maybe in a day or two when I have a chance to review it myself I will find that its actually good. I sure hope so...

Looking back to 2010 and Naughty Bear: 10 Years And Still No Invite

Nick writes: "At its launch, Naughty Bear was seemingly overshadowed by E3 a couple of weeks prior. Major releases like Fallout: New Vegas and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty grabbed gamers’ attention months prior, whereas Naughty Bear, comparable to its terrible stealth mechanics, released on a whimper. The overwhelming influx of poor reviews didn’t help its case either. Yet, a decade later and here I am - writing about a game that continues to serve as a stress reliever or a rainy day substitute. That has to count for something, as I can’t say the same for most triple-A releases."

Naughty in a Non-Sexual Way

TheLateNightGamer: I’d assume that most gamers have at least heard of Naughty Bear. Unfortunately, it’s probably from people putting it on their list of terrible games. I’ll admit, this wasn’t a game that I played so much my neighbors thought I was dead. It’s not perfect, sure. But it deserves a lot more credit than most people give it.
