GOS Killzone 3 E3 Impressions - Hell, I was aghast

Mucu from GamesOnSmash writes, "3D nonsense aside, the real fun of Killzone 3 is the gameplay. I can decisively say that it is more brutal, faster, and prettier than last year’s mega hit. Killzone 2 was a great game, but Kilzone 3 is shaping up to be a fantastic one – and we haven’t even seen the multiplayer yet. Look for it to suck all of your time away when it hits next February."

Definetly looking forward to KZ3. Not because of Move or 3D, but because it's Killzone 3 and it looks like it'll be more than good looks. Of course, Move and 3D might be nice additions.

TheAwesomessMan5077d ago

I think I'll rather play Killzone 3 using the DS3. TBH, and imo, I thinkb using the Move will not suit well with me. But I'm still getting Move anyway so I will test it out.

Cevapi885077d ago

same here...i got used to the controls through the DS3 and i hope that there will be options to keep the controls just they way they are from KZ2...i will try Move with KZ3 just to see if it works with a game like KZ3...i just want to know how the sixaxis sequences will work and if the melee attacks will be even more engaging when using Move

Genesis55077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

I went over to Future Shop today and check out the 3D TV's. They were playing the movie Cloudy with a chance of meatballs on a 55" Sony. It looked amazing. I love it. Playing KZ3 in 3D would be awesome.

I plan on getting one but I need a price drop. Even though I could afford it I am not paying $3500 for a TV in this lifetime.

randomwiz5077d ago

fps games on the wii definitely did not suit me, but i hear many people say that move works pretty well with fps games, and in some cases better than the ds3, so even though I think i'll prefer the ds3, i just really want to try out move with socom or k3.

ivant5077d ago

Most who have played Socom4 with the Move have agreed, they have a speed advantage(in targeting) over DS3 users.

So you continue with your Ds3, and I'll Killzown you with my Move.

Hey, does this mean no more controller lag?

morganfell5077d ago

@Genesis,

Deals do occur. My XBR was $3900 then Best Buy ran a 1 week sale and knocked 1K off the price. I found out 10 minutes before they closed on the last day of the sale. I called and the next day they still gave the same price. Deals do occur.

It did look really awesome. It's the game I'm most looking forward to on my PS3. That said, I actually thought Rage was more impressive. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I watched the Rage footage. The amount of detail and the smooth frame rate were just incredible.
It's almost hard for me to believe that we are getting games that look as good as Killzone 3 and Rage. In a way, it has surpassed my expections for this generation.

chidori soukou5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

sorry but rage looks like cartoon game ( textures looks like cartoon) compared for killzone 3...nowhere near as great as Killzone 3.

the pre-alpha of killzone 3 is equivalent to a finished 360 game of high standard graphics.

my honest opinion...

beavis4play5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

i was really excited to get a look at rage at E3 - and what i saw left me with mixed feelings. the overall look of the level is detailed and gorgeous.......HOWEVER, there is VERY LITTLE going on in the level. effects like explosions, smoke....etc... were practically nonexistant and the level (while beautiful) was pretty bland - just shoot baddies(that politely stood out in the open and let the player shoot them? - that was poor AI) in areas that were devoid of the little extras that could have brought it to life.
in KZ3 the action is fast, violent, visceral, explosive....hell, use any words you want to describe it. the look of the game?......unmatched.

also - in rage, they keep showing outside enviroments in a desert setting; and it's supposed to be in an apocalyptic time? then why does everything look so sunny, bright and cheerful? i didn't think the setting reflected what the game world was supposed to be like.

yea, rage looked great - but i think when you consider the TOTAL package of graphics, effects, action, melee combat, AI, weather (that snow in KZ looks awesome!).......KZ3 is on a much higer level at this point.

right now KZ3 is on preorder as soon as i can do it. but, after seeing the the E3 demo of rage?......i'm going to wait to see more before deciding whether to buy or not.

maddhatter1235077d ago

yeah i don't see anything amazing about RAGE either i wouldn't say it is like a cartoon though. kz3 is unmatched in console graphics without question.

Montrealien5077d ago

el zorro, you may not speak against Killzone 3 here.

or else you will get attacked with links and proof as to why your opinion is wrong.

gamer20105077d ago

chidori, pull your head out of your you-know-what, the textures in Rage are excellent. In fact, they look better than the textures in Killzone 3. I have seen screenshots of Killzone 3 and you can see how low res some of the textures are.

The other thing is, Rage has much more expansive environments and also runs at TWICE the framerate. That is a HUGE difference.

Not to mention that Rage isn't affraid to go into the full brightness of day and to use a full color palette. Killzone relies on stark contrasts and generally gloomier lighting conditions.

So sorry, I have to agree that Rage looks a little better in the graphics department. They both look amazing though, and far better than most other first person shooters.

Montrealien5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

I am curious mad maddhater...

Where you refering to this kind of CGI? Because, we are not quite there yet, at least when it comes to real time. And when we will be, CGI will be a few steps ahead, again.

http://features.cgsociety.o...

because lets face it, when I was a kid...this was CGI...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

I realized, long long ago that wanting games to be like CGI, is pretty much like a dog chasing his own tail. However I have learned to appreciate a good looking game, as I always say, it is not the amount of coloring crayons you have, it is what you draw with them that counts.

one piece of charcoal...

http://www.appliedsilliness...

a pack of crayolas..

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Co...

maddhatter1235077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

yeah one bug compares to multiple characters, destructive enviorments, 3D, over 300 real time lights etc so yes kz3 is more impressive then that bug not only that but when the first pics of kz3 were first shown all the 360 fanboys said that they were fake, they were bullshots and concept art. also you tool el zorro can have an opinion if it is relevant to the article did you see rage anywhere in it? if i go in a reach article and talk about how it doesn't look as good as kz3 you would be the first little 360 fangirl crying. so how about you find something better to do with your miserable life then troll gaming sites and take your butt buddies with you.

chidori soukou5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

the textures of cartoon of rage NOT lokks better than killzone 3, FACT.

and lol what happened in "mega textures" of rage of pc? ummm downgrade for "cartoon mega textures" because of 360?

maddhatter123, well ur statement is BS first of all. but the question i really want to know is that why do you bother commenting here if u dont like it dont comment or watch the rage trailers and comment negative stuff of killzone 3 there is that simple man...

Convas5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

Killzone 3 is going to be a great game, but you guys need to stop pretending it's going to be the Second Coming. It won't be. Live with it. Montrealien makes a good point, you appreciate games that look good. Period. Doesn't matter what system they are on.

Dead_Cell5077d ago

Holy sh*t, he only said he was interested in Rage.

everyone seems to be loving everything about kz3 and to think all that has been shown was a 10 min demo of the story just imagine when multiplayer and other enviorments(jungles, deserts and space) are shown. with the best console graphics, best 3D in any game, move support and new things done with sound make kz3 the most immersive shooter. not only is all the techinal stuff been vastly improved the gameplay has lots of new things. kz3 has more going for it then any other shooter.

Jaces5077d ago

Loved the first one, especially online, and I'm totally looking forward to KZ3. 3D t.v. may or may not be hanging on my wall, depends how much they sell for during Christmas time, and hopefully by then the 3D tv's are refined to perfection compared to now...or at least close to perfection. :D

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor370d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar370d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg370d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149370d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138370d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim370d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC370d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138370d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle370d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76370d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger370d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca370d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal370d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright370d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1121d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1121d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1121d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1121d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1121d ago
Vegamyster1121d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1121d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1121d ago (Edited 1121d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1121d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1120d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1121d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip

Top 10 PS3 Games We Hope Come Back On PS5

While Xbox has committed to backwards compatibility spanning four generations, PlayStation has continued their stance that the feature isn't important. Well, it is! I'm hoping these PlayStation 3 classics that skipped the PS4 entirely show up again on the PS5 for everyone to enjoy.

Resistance, Dead Space franchise, Splatterhouse, Lollipop Chainsaw, Brutal Legends, Alice Madness Returns, Enslaved Journey to the West, Mass Effect franchise. Also wouldn't mind seeing a new Wild Arms game remake or HD remaster, the Xenosaga trilogy, a new Parasite Eve, a new Dino Crisis just too many games to list that are forgotten and left in the dark now adays.

Sciurus_vulgaris1299d ago

The PS3 is difficult to emulate. PS3 backwards compatibility on PS5 would require translation from PowerPC to x86. Additionally the PS5 likely would have to mimic the PS3’s GPU and CPU.

**Luster Network

This is what pops up on my web browser. So I can't even read the site. So, forget that. They don't need my data.

But let's get something straight. OG Xbox had around 1,001 games. How many are BC on Series X? **39** THIRTY NINE. Come on! That's wack BC. You can't tell me that's a complete list. Talking about commitment. Game preservation. Ridiculous. Covers nothing.

How many games released on Xbox 360? Around 2085. How many are BC?
568. That's it. Around 1,517 are **MISSING** Stop playing. Tired of that nonsense.

Anyway, the only games I really want from PS3 that would be awesome are Motorstorm and MGS4. I'll take BC. I'll take a remaster. I'll take a remake. If not those, then Killzone 2. And in VR, maybe Sports Champions, House of the Dead Overkill and the Time Crisis games.

That's all I need. But we've gone over BC again and again in every possible way. It wasn't that important because Sony sold 115 million consoles without it. That's proof enough with no outcry. And PS5 has damn near all 4,000+ PS4 games BC. It's not PS1,PS2 and PS3. But that's plenty. I'll take more but you get what you get.
