PS3 gets MUBI film service

Sony's announced a deal to bring the MUBI film service to PS3.

Announced at the Cannes Film Festival, the new MUBI PS3 application will allow you to stream "the best of international cinema" onto your telly. But not just Iron Man and Big Momma's House; MUBI emphasizes "quality over quantity," apparently.

The PS3 MUBI service will house "undistributed festival gems," art-house films and independent releases, including names like the Coen brothers, Godard, Kitano, Almodóvar, Tarantino, and Van Sant, according to the PlayStation Blog.

We will never get play tv in the states but thats okay we will end up with something else along the line of internet cable down the road.I would expect Sony knows that they could bring in some good money with it.Hell they could easily under price my cable company and still have a large profit margin.20$ to 30$ bucks a month would be cheap compared to the 120$ I pay a month.While using the ads to fully pay to provide the service.

Yes!!!! I love cult movies, especially Pan's Labyrinth! I hope others like Pulp Fiction and so make it. And I definatly agree with their motto, quality over quantity.

I just checked on the site how many movies are available to US users..500+ pages of movies, here in Ireland..16+ pages ;-(

Great collection though.

Its between 1-3 euro pay per view and 12 euros a month for unlimited viewing. Incorporating this into the premium PSN service would be a great idea.

UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Iberia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Nordic countries, Australia and New Zealand. More territories will be announced at a later date.

One of the other comments also states:

Hello. The service is exclusive to PS3. Nordic countries are part of the launch, and we are in Cannes closing some major distribution deals in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. Expect to watch great films instantly on your PS3 this Fall.
