IGN: Alpha Protocol Interview

IGN: In some ways, Alpha Protocol is shaping up to be exactly what you'd expect from Obsidian - a gargantuan, open-ended RPG. In others, it's a whole new adventure for the studio, delving into the theme of espionage in a real-world setting. Regardless, Alpha Protocol has the potential to put the role-playing back in RPG, so numerous are its options for character building and its branching paths. This is a complex, constantly evolving world, where actions can have ramifications that you may not understand until hours later. And with 32 very distinct endings and 120 hours of recorded dialogue, it's been a massive project. With the game on the verge of release we got in touch with Alpha Protocol's Associate Producer Matt Hickman for a chat.

LordoftheCritics104d ago

Spec Ops: The Line was super dark.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend104d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long104d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons104d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor104d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens52104d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey602104d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor104d ago

I have quite a few of these. Timed licenses suck.

Terry_B104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.

Really Bethesda? Come on

We could have gotten to explore more of the regions or revisit old ones with another developer making them. Would have shortened the time between releases of the main games.

shinoff2183170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Just thinking about what could've been. Maybe they didn't wanna be showed up on their flagship title Ala new vegas compared to fallout 3 and 4

phoenixwing169d ago

it's not that hard to show them up when they're like 20 years behind in terms of engine and development skills. If they had gotten the go ahead i guarantee it would have been better than anything they'd made recently.

anast169d ago

Bethesda didn't and still doesn't do above the bare minimum.

cammers1995169d ago

The issue here was Bethesda was butthurt that obsidian managed to develop a better fallout game at the time (new vegas) than theirs (fo3) so they didn't allow it.

OneLove169d ago (Edited 169d ago )

It's funny how they're both owned by Microsoft now. They should be able to work together now.
