I liked it myself. I hope Conviction "under-delivers" too!

BreakNeckSpeed5159d ago

Wouldn't expect less from the like of you silly kids.

wohoo5159d ago

Surprising comments to me. I'm rather fond of the first game as well. The best is still Chaos Theory though, Conviction won't be able to touch that imo.

Parapraxis5158d ago (Edited 5158d ago )

Splinter Cell Conviction is up on torrent sites already.

Oh I got a DD (denial disagree), remember kids, google is your friend.

Hiding in the dark and sneaking around was epic. The tense moments were great as you felt like if you were revealed, you'd definitely be killed. You aren't some super soldier, you're just a normal badass. If you're outnumbered, thats it. Its also why I loved the hitman series. You're a normal person, who is just cunning and leathal! If that was a under-delivery, then Ubisoft needs to go back to the boards.

I know that now at days, multiplatform developers want to rush out garbage for the biggest return on investment, but Splinter Cell 1 & 2 were amazing titles. They really defined the way stealth games should be played, Even taught metal gear a few tricks. I hate when you can just be rambo in a game and get away with it, it requires absolutely no challenge at that point, or fear as a player.

Sad the new series went the direction of having torture chambers and no more hiding bodies, ill give it a shot, but the gameplay is focused on action and beating people to death.

AngryFork5158d ago

Atleast in the original you could carry dead bodies...

what I wonder is how Tom Clancy lets his name go on this series that has drifted so far from his material.

mikepmcc5158d ago

I hope to god it does as well...for the sake of future splinter cell games.

Bigpappy5158d ago

They tried to dumb down the original because people were crying about alarms making the game too hard. A real spy can not afford any alarms.

i loved it.keep the under-deliveries comin i say

oh and metacritic rates them all above 93 bar double agent..which did suck a bit.and vgchartz has the series at 5million units sold.thats on the xbox and 360 brand alone.

don't go a trash my memories jerks! Telling me how one of my favorite games could have easily be my favorite game except no one at Ubisoft knew how to build that type of game... *sigh*

I been playing convictions for few hours now and i dont think you can compare it to older splinter cell games. But this dose not make it bad game in way if you look at the game and dont think of the older splinter cells it can be really enjoying it has really good story and voice acting is really good grahics are sub par for a game being in develoment for over 5 years. So ovrall i would rate convictions a 9.1 but if you go in to playing thinking oh this going to beat choas thery then you going to rate this in the high 5. I really surprised by this and after demo was not expecting this to be as good as it will deffo pick this pc.

Too dated in my book. The AI is way too unpredictable to be acceptable today. It's definitely a game of its time.

Jingsing7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Agreed with those sentiments. The quality of the CPU controlled characters make or break a stealth game and they are pretty poor in all the Splinter Cell games by today's standard. This is what led me to playing Spies vs Mercs all the time in later games just to get a better stealth experience from a real person. Arguably Sony are making better stealth games albeit not Tom Clancy stuff.

TheProfessional7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

You should stick with fortnite or one of the countless bloodborne style games then. What a joke.

rlow17d ago

I had a good time with the game. It is a product of its time. But when it came out it was a must have game for a lot of people. I wish Ubisoft would make another game in the series or at least a reboot.

vgvill7d ago

They are making a remake, I think. I loved the original game when it was released, but I tried to play it again in recent years and just couldn't get on with it. The same with the older Hitman games.

PrecursorOrb7d ago

Yeah chaos theory still holds up though I gotta say. If you’re a fan of the series I highly suggest you go back to that one. Ubi has said they are remaking sc for “modern audiences”. I don’t have a lot of faith for the future of that company

Chocoburger7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Due to the lack of modern stealth games, and me constantly playing the MGS series, I've been looking for alternative stealth games to play, and went back and re-played the SC series recently. I wouldn't call SC1 or SC:PT masterpieces, there are AI issues, they're very much trial-and-error games, and that can lead to a lot of frustration. I also found the stories in this series to be boring, uninteresting, and just sloppily told. Cinematics are also of poor quality for both in-game scenes and CG cut-scenes, the soundtrack didn't leave any impression on me either.

Chaos Theory is better, but there was still a lot of room for improvement, and Double Agent (old gen ver.) was a sloppy mess that ended up a regression from CT. But still, at least they tried back then, these days Ubi-junk doesn't even try to make good games!
