Yeah a thick skin is needed but it doesn't excuse the behavior of some of these people. The fact that these children need to resort to such pathetic name calling is a shameful sign of how limited their minds are. I'm a guy and I dont consider online gaming a 'boys club'. I'd rather play with a mature and sensible girl than have to listen to sex-obsessed fuck wits with brains as tiny as their pre-pubescent dicks. I don't want my girlfriend or sister to receive incessant abuse because they had the gall to be born with a vagina and the hideous shamelessness to go out and *shock/horror* buy a game.

So yeah, call 'em names back. Whatever. But you know what? It's not a 'boys club' and if it is I'd rather just resign because I'm not here to swing my dick with other guys I'm here to play a god damned video game.

The thing is (and I will get plenty of disagrees for this), I actually find women who are into geek culture or are geeks themselves sexy.

They tend to be the ones, if they are gaming, that I want to spend time with. They will watch the same movies as I do, play the same games, and watch the same shows. Even read the same types of books. I don't know what the problem is with the homos that hate them so much.

Sorry to offend any actual homosexuals here by comparing you to them. Actual homosexuals would probably be much better at the game.

You didn't explain anything. You referred to over 5 million people (women, young adults and girls) as if they all were one person, of one mindset. You base this on your limited experience of women who game. Further, you base it on your limited experience of women in general (which basically amounts to your playground mentality that "girls are icky.")

They get insulted by immature imbeciles who don't know how to relate to them. These imbeciles have no social abilities to even talk to these women so they are either: "OMG! Yer hawt, fuck me" or "Get back in the kitchen because I am soo original with my insults you have never heard that one before." Everyone knows how bad Xbox live is. It's something i'm surprised microsoft haven't tried to address seeing as they are trying to give the xbox a family friendly image. They do take action though, my friend got some sort of mic ban at one point for constantly chatting crap down the mic every game.

I personally mute if things get outta hand. I don't bother reporting because I'm usually not actually offended or feel threatened. Just annoyed, so I don't really care. But if I ever feel offended, I do report.

Literally everyone gets harassed on the internet. Racism, sexism, homophobia, hating on gingers, being new to the game, making stupid mistakes, etc. Literally everyone has something to be harassed about. Us girls are no different, and it just comes with the territory of being anywhere online. If you can't handle being made fun of by anonymous people with pointless insults, then even though it shouldn't be this way, you really can not game online. Or really be anywhere near the internet.

This is the problem, males severly outnumber the amount of girl gamers, and whenever a girl gamer wants to play an FPS for example, they can experience harrassment and abuse.

So for those guys that want more girl gamers, just shut up and play your games.

Its not just girls that are a target though, anyone can be targetted for just about anything. There are some douchebags out there that think they can act however they please, just because they hide behind a gamertag.

yup,my gf when she played MAG got kicked out of squad as soon as she started talking.i think it was like that in bfbc2 as well...plus abuse of course.so usually we just played together with her friends.funny thing is that she is quite good at fps games but it doesn´t matter to some morons-she was either getting abuse for just being a girl and therefor,apparently,´ 0;shit at games´´ or some of those...´´men´& #180;...couldn´t stand the fact that she was spraying their asses to valhalla.

My sister has cracked the sammich joke at other women's expense. It happens and can be rather humorous.

Also, quit complaining about mild flames online. It happens no matter what gender you are especially on XBL. You still get called somebody's bitch, and you still get told to suck it even if you're winning and male.

Get off your high horse an quit screaming sexist as a battle cry. That's not what my great-grandmother stood for as a Riveter! She stood as a testament that women could take whatever a man could when we were off fighting wars. She was working in mills and factories the world over to keep the US running. I actually kinda think that gaming should remain a primarily male dominated area. it's one of the few places that men can actually BE men any more. We're no longer allowed to show ANY sign of aggression or exhibit any of the natural behavior that men actually show - so when you see the 30 year old guys spending their days on Call of Duty, it's because they've found an outlet.
Women are leaking into every single area they can in modern society, even passing laws to make it a requirement that they be represented in many areas such as Government.. can we please just have ONE place where men can be men without women being part of it? Just ONE place: gaming? Just leave us one place where men can just relax and have fun with other guys.

That doesn't make these insults any less worse, but that's my opinion..

i remember few years ago i read an article about women in a canadian firefighters...first of all they wanted to be treated the same,they wanted to be called firewoman,not fireman,they were saying that everyone is equal and they can do the same job just as good...and then they demanded lighter water hose because they were unable to use it properly.

There ar tons of examples like that. Personally I think female gamers are awesome. But if they want to be equal they will have to put up with me referring to them as "twat features" and relentlessly talking about footie. If only there was some area completely dominated by men, where they could be aggressive, and competitive and... Oh wait, there's professional sports, up to and including sports where men get to beat the hell out of each other.

You can be yourself in a game, provided 'yourself' is not a sexist jerk that responds to the mere presence of a female with a sorta 'how dare you even be here' attitude that you seem to have.

That's stupid. I've been gaming since I was super young. Gaming hasn't ever JUST been a boys club. The majority is still boys in the core gaming crowd, but who cares if us girls play too?

I don't see why you can't handle dealing with a few girls here and there. But, if you really can not, why don't you mute us, if our voices being higher than yours offends you that much. Then you can pretend that all the people that you encounter are men - the strong, silent type which you probably like. And then you can shut the fuck up and actually do what matters in that situation: Game.
