G4TV: Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver Review

The relaxed pace, internal clock, collectibles, socializing aspect, and the addiction associated with finding (or breeding) new Pokemon are the reasons to buy these versions, not the visual enhancements or the deep, strategic battles. There's a considerable amount of content here, and that's not even counting the extra "mileage" you'll get with the Pokewalker.

While it would have been nice to see the series expand with completely original releases, HeartGold and SoulSilver will keep enthusiasts in the equivalent of Pokeheaven until the inevitable debut of MucusMagenta, DuodenumDusk, or something oddly similar.

"The Cons
* Only four attack choices per creature"

...OH DEAR GOD WHAT BUSINESS DO THEY HAVE REVIEWING THIS GAME?

wingman32x5188d ago (Edited 5188d ago )

If they have to look that hard to find enough cons, then Gamefreak made one hell of a remake. Seriously, this is so much better than The red/blue remakes.

Sigh5188d ago

that con really is a joke. Reviewers are finding ways to get nitpicky these days, first it's JRPGs for being "linear", now it's the 4-move set in pokemon.

foxxy5188d ago

Thats what bugged me about pokemon 4 attck choices and oh wait i have to make my pokemon forget a move i cant believe i wasted my money on the games. Oh and the lvling dont get me started. the game is not a 10/10 no new pokemon game deserves that only the original.

ZombieNinjaPanda5188d ago

Have you ever played pokemon before? The 4 attack choice limit is made so you have to use a few tactics.

Do you want to go for quick attacks but be defenseless or go for status effecting etc.

ExcelKnight5188d ago

After five generations of adding complexity to the actual Pokemon like IVs and EVs as well as practically tripling the amount of techniques, it's pretty much time to move to six moves. Lower the amount of PP if that's what's needed to make people stop whining, but PLEASE add some variety.

Besides, it's not like the interface is cluttered on a single screen anymore. The size of the attack buttons on the DS is just plain ridiculous compared to whatever else they could be using the bottom screen for.

Michael-Jackson5188d ago (Edited 5188d ago )

If I remember correctly that from the GBA games to present you can learn all your moves that got deleted if you visit a guy who deals with Heart Scales. Hearts Scales are easily obtained and you can change your all your moves that got deleted anytime, HM and TM help too SO 4 moves is NOT an issue but it gets old. Maybe add 1 or 2 on the next Generation to change up the strategy.

spektical5188d ago

i agree its time to move to 6 attacks.

i hate always having to remove a move... Thats why lugia has to be one of the best pokemon out there, you can teach it thunder, fire blast, aurora beam, blizzard

I hate deleting moves and making tough decisions on which move to delete BUT 4 moves makes the game about strategy. It should stay with 4 moves IMO. They have to bring something new to the next Pokemon game but don't mess with the formula.

Recycled features, or features that worked well so they included them in this version?

Guide: The Best Pokémon Games - Every Mainline Pokémon Game Ranked

by Glen Fox:
"What are the best Pokémon games? The impending launch of Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee have got us thinking about the franchise's history.
