Why are there so many articles on 360 FFXIII screenshots? Where's my PS3 screens!?

Noct5198d ago

These screens have been upscaled from the 360 versions native SUB HD resolution and thats why they look so blurry.

The 360 versions native resolution is 1024x576 as can be seen in this pic http://static.product-revie...

Actual 720P HD resolution is 1280x720p and thats what the PS3 version runs at.

If you save these 360 screens on your computer and check the resolution by going in to the file info it tells you the screens resolution is 1267x713...

So S-E have upscaled these screens from it's SUBHD native resolution of 1024x576 to 1267x713 (which is still SUB-HD) and thats why they're are blurry and it will look like that also when playing the game since the TV will upscale it.

Everyone wants to show that Square Enix lied with the doctored screenshots.

NOOBKILLA5197d ago

I don't know why this is a huge issue, we have been seeing this for a few years. Think about how many games on the PS3 were shafted because devs didn't want to take the time, energy, or money into making their game as good as the 360 version if not better. We know that with games like God of War 3, Killzone 2, and Uncharted 2 the PS3 can handle anything the 360 can and some.

I think the only reason the PS3 version of FF13 is better is because the game was just about complete on the PS3 before they even stated working on the 360 version. I'm sure if it wasn't, SquareEnix would have shafted PS3 owners again.

With owning both the 360 and PS3 I will bet getting it on the PS3 just because PS controller, 1080p cutscenes, and lossless audio. The actual gameplay will be close but the PS3 will have an edge.

-Alpha5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

Exactly. PS3 fans are having a field day with this multiplatform game not only being better on the PS3 but being MILES better on the PS3. This is their justice for all those other multiplat titles that were inferior on the PS3, and probably the justice from the taunting of this game going multiplatform by 360 fanboys to begin with.

It's just how the cycle goes.

The PS3 version pretty much had to be better because, like you said, the game was ported to the 360 after the game was already in production (I believe). I wonder though, what would SE be doing with the PS3 version if it stayed exclusive. It would have released sooner and maybe we would have some additional features. Unfortunately the 360 version did slow and bog things down it seems, but then again SE has been disappointing as a whole

WMW5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

it is a big is a big deal because SE and the 360 fanboys claimed they were equal some 360 fanboys even tried to say the 360 version was better. on top of that also like alpha said 360 fanboys ran their mouths as usually and are now getting what they had coming. this had nothing to do with when the 360 version was developed because SE said the 360 version would be made after the ps3 version and the engine is for multiplat development and would not release till it was done it is worst simply because of the 360 hardware. they got it on 1 disc with no installs for the ps3 why not for the 360? the outdated disc format and no standard hdd. the ps3 has hd with no compression why not the 360 version? again because of the outdated disc format. the 360 held the game back more then SE did even after cutting a whole games worth of content it still couldn't handle it because of the hardware.

Ravage275197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

everything so far pretty much confirmed a sub-HD resolution for the 360 version. Now we shall wait for the framerate comparison. We already know how well the ps3 version performed, let's see if SE really bayonetta-ed this port

-Alpha5197d ago

I think everybody knew it would be better on the PS3, save for the 360 fanboys that had to twist the knife in the back of Sony fanboys who were crying that SE went multiplatform (as if they were obliged to stay only on the PS3).

However, now it's clearly obvious that not only is the PS3 version superior but the 360 version is not up to proper standard, let alone the PS3 standard. It's worse than the Bayonetta fiasco. This is going to have PS3 fanboys gloating all year long and 360 fanboys licking their wounds. Just wait till the game releases. If MS is trying to persuade multiplatform gamers to get the 360 version then they need more than a faceplate and exclusive skins. I had always thought that by going multiplatform the 360 owners that really wanted to play FF wouldn't buy the PS3 to play this game. Now it seems that if they really are big FF fans they will have to get the PS3.

I've seen many times upon the announcement of going multiplatform that 360 gamers were relieved that they didn't have to buy a PS3 for this game. It makes me wonder if SE regrets going multiplatform and if the work to port the game was troublesome, or maybe they just didn't give a damn. I'm sure they could have made the 360 version a little better, but devs get lazy.

Seedhouse5197d ago

Noct, you're showing your ignorance stating that the 360 version is running at 1024x576.

The person on NeoGaf that compared the two screenshots has been using those released yesterday, which have already been proven to be another huge error by Square Enix's US PR.

... if you've failed to notice that they were screen caps from a trailer, and not taken directly of the game running on a console then you clearly missed the mouse pointer that everyone else on the planet noticed.

Regardless, the difference shouldn't be such a big deal - especially the drama that everyone is making it out to be. Buy whichever version you prefer, and leave others to do the same - let's just enjoy the game...!

Syronicus5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

If you own only a PS3 then you buy the PS3 version. If you own only the 360, then you buy the 360 version.

DailyAddict5197d ago

GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY! I just saved a TON of money by switching my console insurance to Geico!

...seriously, move on all ready people. The constant nagging, finger-pointing and nay saying is getting a bit old. What happened to people just enjoying games? Pick which version you want and who cares what "other" people have to say about it..

oh but I forgot, this is the Internet and 99% of people on the Internet are a-holes who have to make sure that everyone else agrees to their opinion.

Want to know what version I'm getting? PS3. Why? I made that decision back when the game was announced. Even if the 360 had extra content I'd still get the PS3 just because I've always played the game on PS so I just can't help but pick it on PS. It's like if Gears of War or Halo went to PS3 I'd still play them on my 360 for the sake of 'comfort' in playing it on the machine I originally had it on. To hell with everything else.

Chris3995197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

the U.S. media will award relatively the same score for both versions.

At least that's my take; Nationalism at it's finest.

2cents5197d ago

that the 360 version would be identical to the ps3 when we all know that the development process was on the ps3. we have seen it many times before where the lead console almost always takes the trophy (no pun intended) and the port suffers.

Yes its great news for 360 only owners that they get to play ff13, but I dont think that anyone truly believes that the PS3 version will not be superior.

Who, if they had a choice would want the same game on multiple discs as apposed to 1, and have a potentially degraded quality overall? Only achievement whores thats who... (me!)

But the truth will soon reveal itself when we get the reviews and REAL comparisons in. Guess we will all just have to fill the time talkin sh1t on all the pants articles that will swamp N4G till it happens.

DatNJDom815197d ago

not good....... not good....... still playable though.

Godmars2905197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

PS3 shots have been out for a while. Movies too.

No reason to assume that the US PS3 version is any different from the JP one.

Hopefully...

@DatNJDom81:
Its not good that an apparent attempt was made to cover up the differences as MS pushes a FFXIII bundle on Playstation gaming sites. Its sad.

Sarcasm5197d ago

Look at Snow's Hair. Dithering due to lower resolution is still there.

So much for "But but but JPEG compression photos!!!"

DeepInterludium5197d ago

"However, we noticed at this stage that the movies on the Xbox 360 suffered from more compression than on the PlayStation 3, while the Xbox 360 had an overall crisper image quality in the main game."

LOL poor Gamespot being exposed yet again.

we won5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

Look like more of the same batch of pics released with the mouse pointer.

Just look at this pic and all of the fuzz. It looks like somebody took a picture of a mag photo the quality is so bad.
http://www.meristation.com/...

Look at the Pixelization lol
http://www.google.com/searc...

Can PS3 fanboys really believe all this sh*t floating around? Or are they doing as much damage control as they can before the truth comes out. Nowgamer is really on a roll.

You can tell somebody is trying to pull a fast one because all the text and the hud graphics are all fuzzy as well, which is a bigger factor in seeing something is wrong over the pixelation of the gameplay visuals.

OnlyOnN4G5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

He also ran an analysis on the hud in the same screenshot and confirmed it was 720p. so it has nothing to do with the quality of the screenshot as he could still count the pixels of the hud. so it's as noct says the native res of the gameplay is 1024x576, whereas the hud is 720p.

darthv725197d ago

It has been pretty obvious that some can manipulate images to their will and pass them off as legit. Both systems have done that. Neither is innocent in that perspective. The question now is who do you trust?

Personally I believe my own eyes on my own systems and my own screen. Variances can occur that may be accidental or deliberate. Honesty and integrity no longer exist in this industry when your game goes multi.

The convenience of multi is more people can play it and be satisfied with their version of choice. Apparently that is just not to be allowed this gen because you will always have those criticizing others that they got the wrong one as it relates to them.

Let it go.

Like Syronicus said above. If you only have a ps3, get it for ps3. Only have a 360 get it for 360.

It isnt worth the effort to belittle someone simply because they bought the same game as you just on a different platform. If you enjoy it and they enjoy it then so be it.

sikbeta5197d ago

@Chris399

You hit nail Pal...

As I said The Only/Real Comparison that matters is between FFvs13 and FF13

Jaggies galore.

So...
Anything the PS3 can do is "also possible on the 360"....NOT!!

caladbolg7775197d ago

I didn't realize they were making a PS2 version of FF13. Looks great. It's good to see a 10-year-old console is still getting new releases after all these years.

Enjoy your 576p resolution, lemmings.

turgore5197d ago

Where did that guy take that info ...from his ass ?

iron_sheik5197d ago

mazingerdude works for eurogamer

and x360 version has 3 dvds and has compressed audio and video at 720p only

only an abnormal would buy a sub HD crap box 360 version

cereal_killa5197d ago

http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-...

"A user known as MazingerDUDE, who performs tasks for well respected analysis website Digital Foundry, has revealed that through a study of recent Xbox 360 and PS3 screenshots, that the 360 version actually runs at 576p, which is not HD resolution."

turgore5197d ago

Well too bad Gamespot said the 360 version looked better and sharper during gameplay. Will the PS3 version look better ? Slightly...less loading and better CGI but untill then chill the F down and wait for a credible source like lens of truth (that actually found 99% of multiplats look worse on PS3 and some are downright hideous like Bayonetta).

5197d ago
Godmars2905197d ago

That should be real good for their rep...

Sarcasm5197d ago

Slightly...?

The PS3 version is 720p and 360 version is 576p. I wouldn't call that "Slightly"

And not to mention 3 discs. And if you're like me with my 360 games, I want to install it. So Installing 3 discs is going to be a pain for those that does it.

And 720p cutscenes only.
And 5.1 COMPRESSED audio. People who prefer to have uncompressed 7.1 or at least uncompressed 5.1 won't get it. Then again, 360 owners are completely oblivious to sound quality because "You cant tell the difference." Well of course you cant tell the difference, you DON'T HAVE A CHOICE but to use compressed audio for all 360 games anyway.

Noc5197d ago

He used to do the resolution analysis at Beyond3D and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) he does resolution analysis for Digital Foundry as well.

The only thing that might be in question is the source of the screenshots and what the screenshots were running off of.

radphil5197d ago

then why should we take that bit of info like it's set in stone? ಠ_ಠ

Not sure what to believe to be honest. I do know that the ss at 576 res are from a PAL SD copy so obviously it's not going to be HD quality

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972142d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus142d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda141d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B140d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981140d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot140d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda140d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot140d ago

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay140d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12142d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay140d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183142d ago (Edited 142d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB141d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
