Jack Thompson: "Manhunt 2 ban is simply delicious"

Every gamers worst nightmare Jack Thompson has basked in the controversy surrounding Manhunt 2 and has called all the banning action as simply delicious. Thompson gloats that he had warned Take Two months ago that they would have huge problems with the title and then smughly remarks 'Who was right about that kidds?"He says this is the best thing that could happen to the gaming industry...

Man I hate Jack Tompson, he is so annoying and this banning of Manhunt 2 is gonna make him belive that the gaming industry is full of evil. I wish that every gamer and the whole of the gaming industry come together and sue that dumbass for every penny hes got, now that would be awesome.

Jack Thompson is a big douche, but the problem at the moment is something bigger than him!

Jack Thompson has tried to do something like this for years, and failed due to him being totally nuts, and using evidence that's absolutly ludicrus!

The problem we have now is that an official classification board has put a stop to Manhunt 2 in the UK, and in turn made the developers of the consoles, Sony and Nintendo, officially put a stop to it too.

Nintendo and Sony knew what Manhunt 2 was when it was being developed, and didn't put a stop to it, and probably would of published and sold copies of Manhunt 2 if it wasn't brought to everyone's attention.

My only thought of how to get to play this game is if they do one of the following:

1. Edit down the violence and sex to get a decent rating(why? It's would definatly spoil the game)

2. Port it over to the X360, leave it region free in the states with an Adult Only rating so that Europe could import and enjoy, with MS still making some dough.

3. Someone leak it a review copy. There have be reviews already of the game, so someone needs to leak it. You'd have to modify your console, but at least it's out there. (I don't condone piracy!)

4. Scrap it, and leave it there and let Jack Thompson win!

Because that's what it will boil down to. The BBFC will carry on, there only doing there job. Sony and Nintendo are watching there reputation, but Jack Thompson will use this to his advantage and use it against other games.

What will happen when GTA4 come out?? Manhunt 2 is based on something un-realistic, something movie like. GTA4 is about gangs, guns, whores etc. More violent, more realistic to real life, and if Manhunt 2 gets this treatment, what about GTA4??

MS might of wasted $50 mil if Jack Thompson get's his way!!!

I'd say the biggest difference between GTA IV and Manhunt 2 are that GTA doesn't have necrophilia for starters.

GTA4 may not have necrophilia, and other weird things in Manhunt 2, but I'm sure that GTA4 will have influences that will appear more to the younger audience that WILL play GTA4.

Like I mentioned, with Manhunt 2, due to it's location, storyline etc, it feels very cinematic and in some states un-realistic to most people, but I personally thing that a game like GTA4 would do more damage due to it's realistic tone, it's realistic settings (New York), and it's range or real cars, guns, clothing etc.

Either way, it's up to the consumer if they buy a game or not, not some dodgy laywer called Jack. If parents are stupid enough to buy an Adult rating game for there kids, then it should be them who is penalised if anything goes wrong, not the gamers!

Of course, most gamers would still mindlessly defend Manhunt 2. Heck, they would defend any video game, even if the game lets gamer role-play as a serial rapist going around kidnapping and raping little girls. Gamers would still defend that game like cultists. Pistol whip Jack Thompson or take him behind the wood shed he does have a point. This perhaps is the best thing that could happen to the gaming industry. Not only in curbing this game from release but showing the general public and lawmakers that the ESRB does work and does an adequate job at rating content [games]. But Perhaps just as sick as the sadistic and psychopathic content in Manhunt is the fact that our society [as gamers] wants and accepts this crap. As a life long, 28 year old gamer I'm all for violence, blood, sexual content, nudity... but there is a line that shouldn't be crossed and Rockstar tried to push it again w/ a sequel to a game that probably should have been tagged w/ the same rating years ago. Blast me all you like but the sad truth of the matter is that although this is my opinion is the right.

I hate it when I see games like this being banned from countries and such, people saying to not play it because it's bad influence and such but then they let you watch movies in theatres that have the same and probably even more violence than a video game yet they let you watch it or there really isn't that much of a censorship towards it.

The same thing happened with GTAIV, the mayor of New York was pissed because they were recreating NYC in order to bring about violence, criminals killing police and such yet you see billions of movies of NYC about the same crap and nobody says nothing about it.

How can you say that as a GAMER. Movies like Hostle and Saw are far more true to life for the simple fact that they are live action films and not animated films. How is it that these movies are not played in specific theathers that only show those types of movies where ID verfication is a must. Instead they put the Hostles and Saws of the world in the same general population theaters that any underage child with $10 can buy a ticket for Surfs-up and sneek into a very harsh rated-R flick. We as gamers get treated as 2nd class citizens for the simple fact that were are deemed "little children" for our hobby and passion. And I for one am very sick of it. Why is it that this game won't see the light of day in it's current form, but I can buy a porn flick 3 blocks away from a elementry school.

Censorship in our industry is very devestating to the final product and the full imagination of a developers idea. I for one am sick of it and I want somthing to be done so people can view our product as "ART" the same way they view movies, music and naked picasso pictures.

Despite how poor in taste the game might be, I believe as a consumer I should not limited by anyone on how to spend the money I work for.
Take the porn industry for example. Most of it is Man on woman or 2 women and a man, 3men and a woman, man and man. And while the gay porn is not for me it is still wildley availible despite how repulsive I find it. If you wanna go further, theres hentai that has monsters raping women/men, theres even porn at there where that has women taking baseball bats up the A$$ and even simulate the act of rape and torture and guess what you can find this type of porn out there. Why? All these acts are performed by real actors and therefore make it more sickening cause there is no faking such acts. But it's there for people to buy with the money they earn if its what they want to watch but of course that come with a lot of security restrictions.
I would want the same respect when it comes to videogames. I want to experiance the game in it's orignal incarnation, thats what I pay for. I pay to get the best experiance that the Developer had envisioned, I don't want to pay for a water downed version of any product just cause some people like Jack Thompson might take offense to it. There is one thing that my parents have always been with me and that is open and honest. They would tell me to be careful with whatever I decided to view or play cause they knew some of the lingering affects that some violent images might have on me. And if they thought it was to much for me, they would make sure that whatever horror movie or violent filled action flick was somthing I could not get a hold of, by either making sure I couldn't get a hold of it and by calling my friends parents and letting them know that I was not allowed to view such material no matter what. At the end that is what it come down to Parents need to take charge of everything their kids do and not let the government raise their kids and if restriction are to be put on such products make sure that there is a system in place where only those people old enough can get hold of it. The 7-11's by my home all use a ID scan system which does not allow an alcohol tranaction unless an ID is scaned of a person of age first and the system also does not allow for any member to override the system. A system like that would be great for these types of games.

Lines were already cross with movies yet they still sell in retailers. Movies already establish itself as entertainment for all ages. If a movie is rated R, NC-18, or Unrated you can just show an ID and get the movie, why can't the same rules apply to games with AO ratings? This is the hypocrisy we face today in entertainment and it should be address. I don't care what the parents have to say, because they should already know that they are responsible for what games their kids play. Guys, you don't understand what this means. This game is not normal, but really disturbing. Why? you mentioned movies like Saw and Texas chain, but those are movies. You WATCH movies, but you PLAY games.

Movies are often a lot more graphic compared to games, but we have to remember that in the game world, it is often YOU who decide if you crack someones skull or not. YOU experience it much more intensively compared to movies. In movies you can only watch, in games you can plan out every move you make and the way you kill/hurt/beat up/shoot/stab. There is a difference.

In Manhunt 2 this is what you get to PLAY:

Thompson, Dr. Phil and others are the ones who try to connect videogames with this individual's terrible actions. The guy had issues...something was terribly wrong with him...mentally..it had nothing to do with videogames. I suppose videogames are responsible for Jack the Ripper, Ed Gein and Jeffrey Dahmer too right? Give me a break. Its always the fault of movies or videogames when someone does something disturbing, people aren't responsible for the things they do anymore. Look, violent video games are fine... but when video games start letting people actively play and emulate actions of SADISTIC and TWISTED torture, murders and rapes as parts of the gameplay, then there's a problem.

The consoles not releasing them is. Some games do deserve an AO rating, and those games deserve to be made and sold. They could sell them online or in stores dedicated to AO games, if others won't sell them. The AO rating opens up alot more possibilities for games in story and gameplay.

However, if he says something, and your response is a desire to physically harm him, he's proven right. Argue with his ideas, not his personal flaws or with your inclinations to violence.

Maybe we should support research to determine how violent entertainment impacts the psyche. We should investigate what sort of person enjoys it.

PS, Video games are a release for some violent people, better they take their violence out in the virtual world rather than the real. Doctors have been looking into this now for a few years for use in therapy (search the net)
