PSBlog: White Knight Chronicles: Why You'll Want to Play Online

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

"We've been talking about White Knight Chronicles for so long, that it's actually a bit hard for me to believe that it's only 2 weeks from hitting stores. But [checks calendar], that is indeed the case! A few days ago, we held a media event in San Francisco to allow reporters hands-on time with the online portion of the game in a team setting. You can find impressions here, here, here, and many other places as well.

I also sat down with US Producer Tsubasa Inaba to talk ask how robust the online feature set is with White Knight Chronicles."

Because you like dated games?

callahan095226d ago

There really are no other games quite like this one, so I don't know how you can call it dated. It's very much worth playing right now, I already own the Japanese version and I'm going to get the North American version too.

very very well said callahan 09 i was starting to wonder how you got so many bubbles well i think i know the answer and since you said you played the game already and me taking a big guess here and assuming you have played what i consider 2 of the best rpgs this generation so far ( Valkyria Chronicles and Demons Souls )im gonna ask you a question , how do you compare WKC to those games and in Demons Souls online functionality , how different is it from WKC ? , 1 more thing im not a big rpg fan but i have my experience with the genre

FamilyGuy5226d ago

It could have totally been an MMORPG and it's structured as such (fighting mechanics) but they chose to make its online elements additional content rather than the core of the game. It'll be interesting to see how well it does here in the states compared to how well it sold in japan. I got my copy pre-ordered and it'll be my first rpg on the PS3 since Folklore so im excited

Hi, remanutd55, well to answer your questions, WKC is quite different from Valkyria Chronicles and Demon's Souls. I've played the heck out of all 3 of those games (I went through to earn the platinum in Demon's Souls, which took about 112 hours for me ... conversely I put about the same amount of time into WKC and only earned 8 of the trophies! WKC is a game that will take close to 1000 hours to platinum, at least for the Japanese version, I am unsure if the NA version has the same trophies).

It's all about customization. You create your custom hero, you customize what sorts of skills they learn, you create your own list of abilities to bring into battle with you, you even make your own combos to unleash upon the enemy. The game is more story-oriented than Demon's Souls, and more RPGish than Valkyria Chronicles. The online gameplay is more like an MMO where you can recruit 3 of your friends (or strangers) to go on quests with you. It's really addictive.

The character/monster designs along with the visually impressive gaming world have a level of creativity and originality JRPGs are known for.

The online multiplayer component is interesting and definitely a plus for those really into multi-player games.

It may not be on the same tech level graphically as FF13 but makes up for it in style and imagination. Also trumps FF13 with an overall more robust gaming experience.

TehCell5226d ago

WKC has horrible graphics. And its on the most powerfull platform.
Cmon Sony, you loose FF13 and dont care to make a game with comparable graphics? You can do so much better.

Blasphemy5226d ago

It's not always about the graphics. If the game is fun that's what really matters. This one looks fun to me.

gaffyh5226d ago

The graphics are good enough, might not be up to standard with Sony first party games, but seriously what is?

FamilyGuy5226d ago

But that's likely to be because White Knight Chronicles runs in 1080p, or did you forget that little fact?

TheHater5226d ago

what I am getting next week guys :)

Memorable Music in Gaming #21

Chalgyr's Game Room writes:

I am kicking things off by going back to a familiar well here - with a song from the Neverwinter Nights soundtrack. This is still arguably one of my favorite music scores in a video game ever, but I decided to lead off with it and then create something of a theme as I decided to pull all of this edition's songs from RPG games.

Neverwinter Nights (PC) - Battle - Forest Boss

I touched on the somewhat mystical quality of another Neverwinter Nights song last week when discussing City Docks Day. There were a lot of really good battle tunes in this one, but the Forest Boss song always stood out in my mind. The battle itself was not even the most memorable one, but right around the one minute mark, it reaches an epic level that just stuck with me.

The ten last-gen games that should have "HD Remasters"

Digitally Downloaded writes: "Below are the ten games we'd like to see make their way to the new generation of consoles this year. Or, perhaps, game collections that could be pulled together into a single disc package for even better value as we have seen other recent HD/ Remaster releases."

B-But FFXII isn't last-gen. I'd love to see it remastered regardless though. Brilliantly fun game, I just disliked the story unfortunately.

hkgamer3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

story was ok, but very unlike the other ff storylines where there is a clear villian.

i just want the game for vita/ps4. international zodiac version would be interesting to play but i hope that the original glitches(?) are still there.

i had more fun breaking the game then playing the game properly.

would also be cool if they added dual wielding. would make some rare weapons actually useful.

MrSwankSinatra3403d ago

I really would like to see a HD Remaster of both Twilight Princess & Skyward Sword. Those games deserve to be in HD

Relientk773403d ago

Are you saying that they could make Ni no Kuni look even better, because I would like to see that.

hkgamer3403d ago

they could easily make that game look better. just make it as detailed as the animation. the 3d models had a lot less detail.

not saying it didnt look nice, just saying it could be improved a lot.

DougLord3403d ago

NONE - lets keep remakes to games from 2-3 gens ago!

PeaSFor3403d ago

Patapon HD Collection

MadWorld HD
Thrasher:Skate&Destroy HD
EA Skate series HD
Lumines Collection
VibRibbon remastered
Mario Galaxy 1&2 Remastered
BF1942 Remastered

WheatBread3403d ago
