Diehard GameFAN's Jon Widro writes: At the dawn of 2010, to kick off my new weekly gaming column, I didn't know where to begin. So much changes on such a regular basis that the games industry as we knew it 5, 10, 15 years ago is almost indistinguishable in many ways from the game industry of today.
As I looked at the games I've played over the last 2 weeks of 2009, it became clear that it was a great jumping off point for this column's intended discussion points. I've had a variety of game experiences, from new solo games received over the holidays, to group games played with friends and family in town for New Year's. The one thing all these games have in common is that they are new releases for 2009 – meaning they are all products released for sale to current, modern game players.
Backward compatibility works for many games on newer consoles, but titles such as The Simpsons: Hit and Run have been left out.
This is a nice collection of classic. EA has opened its vaults and released a series of classic PC games to Steam for the first time ever.
f you haven't already, consider getting 8-Bit Armies or the new 9-Bit Armies. They're made by some of the same folks from the older C&C, with very similar mechanics; it's just the aesthetics that are completely different.
C&C Red Alert 3 and The Saboteur were two different yet completely unforgettable games to me from a better era of EA.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first Mario 2D game in almost two decades without the New Super Mario art style, and it looks all the better for it
Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?
Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.
This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.
Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3
I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game
I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh
