What Gears Of War Could Learn from Uncharted 2

Gameguru.in "The game literally "looks" to put Epic effort to shame by giving audiences a much more accurate definition of what was perceived to be a part of this generation almost five long years ago."

Bungie5277d ago

if you want a game nobody want to buy be like Uncharted 2 ?

281219865277d ago

of Bungie awesome work but rahter an immature focus on every game...Look the deal is that even though numbers you count make all the difference at the end of the day, if there are games only like Halo 3 we would not even see what the "NEXT GENERATION" would look like...Thankfully there are devs in the lines of Crytek, Naughty Dog and GG that are looking to make this generation belong where it is...

I think you've forgotten the fact that only 5 or 10 games went past a million with the original Xbox... If I start to dole out numbers for the original XBOX games you'll stand truly ashamed...

mrv3215277d ago

If you want a broken one... well you know. :P

OmarJA-N4G5277d ago

Too bad nobody bought teh definitive bestest & awesomest sim like racer Flopza 2.5... :)

U2 is GOTY 09 get over it. :)

Unbiased15277d ago

Uncharted 2 could learn how not to flop sales wise. Not even in top 20 for November LMFAO!
Gears 1 and Gears 2 combined sold 11 million. SOmething Uncharted 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and even 6 won't reach ....combined!
What could Gears 3 learn from Uncharted 2? How not to flop.

mrv3215277d ago

Or Gears 3 could learn how to make a good single player, story, music, graphics, fewer flaws.... AND AN ACTUALLY WORKING ONLINE...

But hey what do I know I played the Uncharted Drakes fortune and it was 10x better than Gears 2.

If you want a game with brutal gun fights, impossible escape scenes and loads of betrayal mixed with Over 20 Game of the year nominations. you've come to the right place. Welcome to Uncharted 2. Enjoy your stay

Gears can expand on their universe a hell of lot...

Darkeyes5277d ago

What could Gears learn from UC2.....

Better Story
Better Graphics
Better Single player
Flawless Multiplayer which works.
Better Dialog.

Pretty much everything should be overhauled to make it come close to UC2.

PirateThom5277d ago (Edited 5277d ago )

Microsoft will use Blu-ray, there's no reason for them not to and many reasons why not using it would be stupid. Mostly, because Flash is still very expensive

281219865277d ago

perhaps necessary to cramp in all the finer nuances...but what use is it if we still have to move through loading screens...Even the all power UC2 adn Killzone 2 HAVE LOADING SCREENS at the end of the day...

True next gen poweress lies in removing this fundamental obstacle...something which Carmack has been struggling since the days of Doom...Hopefully ID tech 5 will provide the solution to "doors"...

-Seven-5277d ago

Microsoft is looking at several royalty-free solutions. The current leading candidate is HD-DVD-ROM-51 format, but QuadLayer DVD is also a contender. Microsoft has royalty-free access to both tech thanks to its patent cross license with Toshiba.

See, Blu-Ray royalty is $60 per player and Microsoft will not pay this royalty, nor will they put Java in any of its product. Blu-Ray was never even a possibility at Microsoft.

mrv3215277d ago

ACTUALLY after the first loading screen there's no others in Uncharted 2 UNLESS the last check point is a while back.

lokiroo4205277d ago (Edited 5277d ago )

@28121986

Have you played Among Thieves? Or Drakes Fortune for that matter? lmao! Thank you, come again.

PirateThom5277d ago

Microsoft don't have a choice here, if they're not going to support the standard, they're just going further into propritary territory than they are now. What Microsoft wants and what really happens are very different.

And "lol" at Uncharted having loading screens.

execution175277d ago

i don't think they'll use SD cards or any cards for next gen, why because they could easily get pirated, and it'll be a pain in the ass if you dropped it and it fell down lets say a vent, your screwed game is lost

-Seven-5277d ago

I agree with you. Microsoft have put them self in a deep hole by not adapting Blu Ray from the start. They have no choice but to move forward and Blu Ray is the best and latest tech to do that.

Which is why Natal scares me, I see Micro going after the Wii market and when it has a good share of it, they will stick to that crowd and release the 360.1 next gen which is what the Nintendo did with the Wii.

I want Micro to remain in the hardcore market for 2 reasons
1. Sony is being more competitive and the gamers win
2. I don't want Sony to follow lead and head to the casual crowd because Micro is making mad money.

REALgamer5277d ago

So.....from an article talking about ways the gameplay of Gears could be expanded, you're saying increased storage capacity = better game?

Seriously?

That must mean Super Mario Bros is one of the worst games ever.

This is an article about GAMEPLAY. Gameplay is not graphics. Gameplay is not inluenced by storage capacity. The only thing that benefits from increased capacity is needing to use less compression or fitting more data, and in reality only textures and sound take up the vast majority of a game's data size.

I haven't read any interviews with Cliffy B saying "oh, of only Gears 2 was on a Blu-Ray disc the there would have been less bugs in the multiplayer".

Also, how is the Unreal Engine holding back Gears? Does it magically make movement mechanics less fluid, or perhaps it infects the script writer's brain and stop them writing complex, nuanced stories?

From my memory Gears of War 2 is still considered an extremely good looking game. Not as pretty as Uncharted 2, but still well above 90% of other games released.

I fail to see how a different engine could influence the gameplay or scripting, and I fail to see how DVD limits gameplay.

Rageanitus5277d ago

flash drives are more expensive than optical media.... we are going to see blu-ray for the next 10 years just like what is happening with DVD... reason why its cheaper is because it is backed up by the other part of hte entertainment industry... movies...

raztad5277d ago (Edited 5277d ago )

@21888

What loading screens? UC2 DOESNT have them and neither KZ2.

Ontopic:

UC2 destroys Gears in everything. The combat is much more dynamic and variated, gears is just clunky, slow and boring.

Cover-raise shoot-cover. Thats Gears for you. I have that game on my laptop, I was impressed the first time I played it but not anymore. UC2 raised the TPS bar and Gears feels outdated nowadays.

darkmurder5277d ago

They can learn how to get fanboys to whinge when their game doesnt get a 10.

raztad5277d ago

@above

It's hard to whine when the game doesnt deserves it, but come on did you just posted a comment to say THAT?

Saaking5277d ago

Gears can most certainly learn a lot from UC2 (such as better graphics, better story, more fluid animations, better voice acting, more options, better online etc); however, I doubt Gears 3 will change much. It'll be like Gears 1 to Gears 2 all over again unless they wait till next gen.

darkmurder5277d ago

Yep, im taking a stance on fanboys, for the record I loved Uncharted 2 10/10 from me.

kneon5277d ago

Killzone 2 certainly has loading screens. I love this game but this is the one annoying feature of the game. More often than not when moving from one scene to the next the graphics just come to a halt with a little loading icon in the corner. It's always between action so it's not a big deal, just a minor annoyance.

Bigpappy5277d ago

May be if uncharted can garner the amount of fans Gears has the knocking of Gears would have some kind of legitimit theme. As it is right now, uncharted is not dethroning Gears because of the weak sales. These game are not quite as similar as you guys are trying to make them sound so you can add browny points to your exclusive. UC2 is a game that is a hybrid of indian jones in the action and pace of the game, and gears of war peekaboo fighting style. Gears is borrows from Halo with the alien invasion (Independence day)scenario. Then it adds some "God Of War" type of gory up close and personal slicing with huge end bosses. So the targeted audience is quite different and so far more people are voting for gears with game sales. Where uncharted is wining with the critics is the technical stuff like the graphic's, animation, presentation, and the more coherent story telling. Those are the things Gears can learn from uncharted. Gears was always about the gameplay (fighting style) and the co-op. Uncharted has not change that, and Gears will continue to appeal more to a larger group of fans.

mal_tez925276d ago

Articles like this just prove how underrated Drake's Fortune was, The gameplay is nearly identical to Uncharted 2 except for the stealth.

I think it got less critical acclaim because everyone was caught up in "PS3 has no games" and "ZOMG ithas no multiplayer!"

But Uncharted 1 is a nearly perfect game that everyone should get

Commander TK5276d ago

Lol, I don't what's wrong with u guys. Haven't played KZ2 or U2? When u c the dagger spinning, that's loading isn't it? When connection to the online, that's loading isn't it? KZ2 has a lot more loading screens, heck even in-game.

It's an outstanding game and so was The Old Blood. Also a lost era of gaming. Interesting, I received a physical copy of The Old Blood 9 years ago today from Poland. It was digital only in North America initially upon release so I had to import.

I disagree. Its still a fantastic game, with very good gunplay and a surprisingly loveable cast of characters and a good story trough many different and interesting setpieces

hiawa231d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago )

All The New Order needs for my tastes is a this gen enhancement patch.

ChasterMies1d 22h ago

I played New Order a couple of years after launch and I give it an 8/10. The shooter holds up because it is focused on being a good shooter. There is no crafting, no RPG elements, no open world find the question mark Weapons are fun. Enemies are fun. Levels offer a nice mix of stealth and shooting. You get to be the predator; this isn’t a game about fending off waves of enemies while a robot companion unlocks a door. Most importantly, New Order is the last of a dying breed of single player shooters.

Skuletor1d 21h ago

Singleplayer shooters are still getting released every year, just look up "boomer shooters" and you'll find an an abundance of them. AAA fps campaigns, not so much.

Last year had Trepang2, RoboCop: Rogue City, Turbo Overkill, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Dread Templar, Sprawl and more

DustMan1d 17h ago

The games you mentioned are not from AAA developers. Wolfenstein likely had a budget that was probably as big as all those games you mentioned combined. I'm not knocking the new wave of retro shooters. I absolutely love them (I think some get much higher review scores than they deserve though). I just really wouldn't describe Wolfenstein as purely a boomer shooter based on the relatively cohesive story, with cut scenes and is fully voice acted. Full set piece moments.

AA development seems to be focused keeping the single player solo experience alive. But the big developers are only concerned about the MTX and milking players who enjoy multiplayer.

ChasterMies1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

The age of AA shooters. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I like less expense, shorter games.

Abear211d 22h ago

Weird all the Wolfenstein articles.

Can you guess what will be announced at Xbox showcase?

DefenderOfDoom21d 21h ago

What Machine Games did with Wolfenstein franchise is awesome. The game play definitely to me , is still very fun to play !!!
