Nintendo Life: Wheelspin First Impressions

Wheelspin is an unashamedly old-school arcade racer, with exaggerated physics, rollercoaster-style tracks and an emphasis on enormous speed. Its influences are clear - F-Zero and San Francisco Rush 2049 are the strongest - but sadly Wheelspin never feels more than the sum of its parts.

The prospect of a cross between a futuristic racer WipEout and F-Zero looked tempting, but when the game was shown to the public are literally rained criticism.

YLG writes: "I like racing games a lot. Some you can get to grips with within seconds, some involve a steep learning curve, while others also allow you to modify your cars as much as you dare.

Wheelspin, for all of its substandard graphics, does not lack a sense of speed.

It does however lack any sort of common sense control system. A sideways controller, twisted one way or the other, makes you steer and the 2 button makes things go blurry."
