Hmmm scored the same as MGS4 so I guess let's face it, 9.3 is the highest GT will ever give a PS3 exclusive.

Never mind they gave 9.8 for Halo 3, 9.6 for Mass effect and 9.5 for GeOW2. But like I said there's just no consistency with these reviewers.

Considering all of their other scores, 9.3 for Uncharted 2 seems like a fair score from them. The odd man out from them is Gears of War 2's rating of 9.5. How the hell did they let that happen? No way did that game deserve such a high score. Biggest let-down of 2008 for me, because one of my favorite games this generation was Gears 1, and I was so excited for Gears 2. They tried to inject too much story into it -- too bad the story was rubbish and the acting was embarrassingly bad. The final boss, if you want to call it that, was a complete joke. And the online was and still is broken. Gears 2 got away with murder as far as I'm concerned, all of its flaws were just COMPLETELY over-looked by nearly all of the gaming media. Hammy story, laughable acting, seesawing campaign pacing and difficulty, lame bosses, anti-climactic ending, broken online... and it got some of the best reviews of all time. Bah.

This game is a glimpse into the future of gaming and from the reviews plus the talk about it thus far, (And from the beta), it is. Every other review has said Uncharted 2 has perfect controls, intuitive menus and impeccable design, yet GameTrailers gives it only an 8.9 in design. Every other review also said Uncharted 2's story is amazing but GT only gives it a 9.3. In fact, every other review has said Uncharted 2 is amazing in all areas! But GT always finds some way to bash a PS3 exclusive.

And for the 360 fanboys who say "Blah blah a 9.3 is a good score what are you complaining about?!", even though 9.3 is typically a high score, it's relatively low for such an incredible game like Uncharted 2. Sorry you're jealous of a 9.3 since ODST only got... well, you know.

Now I know why I don't watch/read these reviews; They trashed the first game through the whole thing and did their best to trash this game!

At first, I thought it was just my inner conspiracy theorist; But as the review went on, the guy had to back up every good thing he said about the game, with a negative about either the first game or this game(mostly the first). It just continued, on, and on, and on.

By now it is well known, the first game is an incredible experience; But it seems it is the only game that is not entitled to have only a single player campaign, as if 99.999% of games up until this generation weren't all single player! I'm sure it never came up in the Bioshock review!

Only two games on GT have been rated higher than Uncharted 2.

Persona 4 (PS2) got a 9.4.
Resistance Retribution (PSP) also got a 9.4.

I believe only one other game received a 9.3, and that's GTA4: Lost and Damned DLC.

No 360 game got higher than a 8.9 this year, IIRC, from GT. Even Killzone 2 got a 9.2 from them.

So, yeah, it's not perfect, but for GT it's an excellent score by all accounts.

This review was pathetic and anyone that says otherwise is kidding themselves. Once again I will repeat myself. It isn't that they gave UC2 a 9.3. It is the fact they gave lesser games, broken games a higher score. Their own boy Geoff says that UC2 isn't just one of the best games of the year, it is one of the best games this generation. And that gets a 9.3? So no, it isn't a good score when taken in comparison to their less deserving titles that scored higher.

Sony is going to have to learn a lesson. Want higher scoring games? Make them dumber.

If they aren't using the wrong cables and wrong settings for PS3 videos then they are using the PS3 version and saying it is the 360 version, or as in this case they couldn't bring themselves to let a game equal the 360.

And the only way Sony will get a higher score is if they put the game on the 360. Which isn't going to happen so basically Sony will never EVER get a 9.5 or higher from gametrailers.

The Uncharted franchise is more original than many other games out this gen.

What other game brings together awesome platforming mixed with 3rd person shooter mechanics? I don't know a single game where you can shoot while you're hanging on a ledge. Was Gears 1 or 2 original or was it a ripoff of Killswitch? Was Halo 1 and onwards not a ripoff of every single FPS on the PC?

GT is a failure website. Also, their video editor is a known PS3 and Sony hater (remember his blog where he himself said that he doesn't like the PS3? yeah, that guy) and it makes sense that he purposely spoils the game. One HUGE spoiler was shown in this video and I never was surprised at its inclusion.

The problem is that there is no actual justification for that score. If they had valid reasons, then I'd say anyone complaining is a fanboy.

If they found the controls problematic, sure. If they found too many glitches to spoil the fun, fine. But to say that UC2 is unoriginal while at the same time awarding 9.5 to a generally identical sequel to Gears of War or giving away 9.8 to a Halo game with basically the same identical gameplay that it had since its inception is hypocritical.

I received a respectable email from a fellow N4G member stating they felt the review wasn't that harsh and they discussed the fact that 2009 scores had been at a certain level. So I replied with the following:

GT has the same management and staff they had the previous year. If they had changed their staff. If they had announced an editorial change. If this 'possible' change had begun with a 360 game - titles to which they have given high scores despite completely broken multiplayer. If any of this had occurred I might not have taken the tact I did.

However...

They did not have a staff change.

They did not announce an editorial shift.

It happened on the biggest PS3 title of the year.

It happened on a game that has scored easily higher on sites known to be harsh.

It's gametrailers a site that has repeatedly stabbed the PS3 before with undeniable incidents such as the infamous PS3 video recording affair. The well known PS3 for 360 video incident. One of their lead video guys on the forum openly talking about how much he hates the PS3.

Sorry, but one or two things I let go. But there comes a point in time where I can no longer write matters off to mere coincidence.

Watched the whole review and overall I thought it was pretty fair, their gripes were a bit spotty, though. In no way, shape or form is a 9.3/10 a bad score, so I see no reason for anybody to be upset about this. All these great scores Uncharted 2 keeps getting only cements what an awesome game it will be. It will easily contend for, if not win, many Game of the Year 2009 awards.

But it really annoys me how now all action/adventure titles are being criticized for NOT having complete freedom and being more linear, just like how GT criticized U2 here.

Sandbox titles were the "Bees Knees" earlier this decade and for good reason. GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas (GTA IV also, but to a lesser extent) are still very good quality titles that are still very playable and enjoyable today as the day they were released. But the fact that the whole Sandbox structure has now become something of a requirement in the eyes of reviewers for Action and Adventure titles as a whole seems to be just a huge act of discrimination on Action/Adventure titles that favor story and plot/character development over random action and freedom.

ICO could be completed in 5 hours or less, yet I must have played through it a dozen times an still consider it among the best experiences I have had with a game. You'll also find this "too short" game being sold used for $100 or more in auctions online. Yes, the fact that it's hard to find it is a big part of that, but do you think Turning Point would fetch $100 or more if it was similarly rare? A game can be very brief but still be incredible. The same goes for Gunstar Heroes, Portal, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2. Some of my other favorites are medium-sized to enormous RPGs like the Final Fantasy games, Oblivion, or Dragon Quest VIII. The length of those games has had almost no bearing on how much I enjoyed them. Quality is the only factor that really matters. Are you really "getting your money's worth" if you buy a 250-hour long game if it's awful? Do other media get judged so harshly for length? A movie critic would probably laugh at people judging their entertainment medium of choice this way. "Yes, I agree that Citizen Kane was a masterfully crafted film, but it's mediocre run time of 119 minutes really brings it down. 6/10."No one would ever do this with movies, yet that's exactly how many judge games, including "experts" at GT. Hopefully video game critics will eventually develop a greater sense of sophistication and artistic appreciation of the form of entertainment that they depend on for their very livelihood.

Gametrailers have lost all credibility in my eyes. I'll be sure to take them off off my DVR. This is not because of the score 9.3 is still a very high score and people really need to stop whining about review scores as they are the PERSONAL OPINIONS of the reviewer. My beef comes from the fact that they approved a video review with spoilers and not have any sort of warning on the page or on the video that the review may contain spoilers. 9.3 isn't a bad score, but go back and watch other GT reviews for major releases and it quickly becomes apparent they have inconsistent standards and frequent hypocrisy.

And yes that spoiler was extremely unprofessional. Especially when they know this game's story is central to the experience.

As much as I like the guys on Invisible Walls it's hard to stand by GT when they put out reviews like this. I would accept 9.3 if they had docked points from Halo 3 or COD 4 for being extremely derivative, but they seem to pick and choose when derivation matters and when it doesn't.

And for the love of God can we stop comparing this game to Tomb Raider? These games have so little common at this point I don't know why people insist on making the comparisons. And even if Uncharted was a TR clone it would have surpassed it now anyways.

After actually watching the whole review, no the score isn't accurate.
YES it's a great score and nobody is questioning that, but the complaints about about the game are very weak at best. I mean they actually use no originality as a flaw, In my 20 or more years of gaming I have NEVER played a game like uncharted 1, let alone uncharted 2.

As I say, great score, but it's just frustrating that sites use such weak negatives literally because they cannot find any solid faults.

And as others have said, will we see the same criticism and negatives for MW2..? I highly doubt it.

Take for instance the 9.5 they gave Gears 2: never mind the fact that Gears 2 has derivative gameplay lacking originality with a short and linear single player campaign. Sound familiar? That would be the same criticisms leveled on U2. Somehow though Gears 2 warranted a higher score. Im sure a lot of people who have posted have played the game, granted only the multiplayer side but you can still see the quality of the game just by playing that.

I havent watched the review (havent read one anywhere actually) but I see that some of their complaints were to do with "sluggish" controls and having played the game and im sure others who have played it will agree there not "sluggish" at all.

I also said that I know its not the single player but one of their complaints was apparently the "sluggish controls" and after having played the MULTIPLAYER side of the game myself as im sure many others will attest too that the controls are pretty damn great and far from this sluggish that they suggest.

But hell im not particulary annoyed about this review, 9.3 is a great score for a game. What annoys me is when sites give games 6/7 just to p*ss people off and to get hits for their damn website.

Oh and its annoying me that I have to wait just under 2 weeks to play the full thing :(

I stop watching GT reviews after they gave MGS4 story a 8.7 and Halo 3 story 9.7...something like that...but I did watch Killzone 2 review and they had one spoiler in it as well. I look at GT as a Game Trailer site, I go to the site for VIDEOS only, such as teaser, trailers, and Gameplay, they offer those in HD. I dont watch their review videos. GT should not be taken as a gaming site that reviews games. I refuse to watch the review VID of U2 from them b/c I read all of the comments on this page...looked at review score on top of this page..9.3/10.I said F!CK GT...comments on this site and the GT U2 page made me decided not to watch it...thanks ppl.

I think the entire structure in which these reviewers judge games is crap! 10/10 no game should get, it should be reserved as a probable.

e.g. drakes 2 gets a 10, and then they bring out drakes 3, and everyone thinks they improved it in every aspect again over drakes 2! LOL what will be reserved for drakes 3? 10.3/10 hmmmmmm.
