Kojima Talks More About Hardcore Natal Plans

The father of Metal Gear told Kotaku that he'd like to make games for Natal that appeal to people who like his own work and Halo.

I despise Natal, but nonetheless I'm very interested in what Kojima does. If he says there's possibilities than there probably are. First day buy if he actually goes through with it.

"I'm not interested in making Natal games for casual users, but I'm interested in making games that hardcore users always wanted to play,"

That's what I'm talking about. If Natal can give hardcore gamers a good time, then great!

KingKionic 5329d ago

Kojima likes it.

Thats a good start .

I hope devs can think of more ways to use it than that because the only thing i can think of is that it will be a rail shooter or you will have to use a remote of some type along with natal(touted as hands free gaming mind you)

@ murderdolls below

no i call it like i see it...just like the eyetoy...its for casual games and is a joke (and its my opinion)

Noctis Aftermath5329d ago

kojimas fanbase and natal fanbase are completely different.

HK = 15+

Natal = 5-12

I bet you would love Natal if it had Sony slapped all over it.

You don't benefit from Sony earning money and you don't benefit from Microsoft losing money get a life.

this guy is obvioulsy Biased so What he says is Irrelevant.

Everything he says is PRO SONY and against MS.

Gamers already do. It's called EyeToy:

Saakings image of premier ps3 fanboy has been shaken. Quick throw in a stealth troll about buying it used or the internet will explode.

jk jk

In all seriousness. I havn't played a MGS title since solid. But if this is coming from Saaking I think I'll have to try it out.

edit:

Kojima looks baked in that pic btw.

JokesOnYou5329d ago (Edited 5329d ago )

Everybody on this site knows that had sony introduced Natal all you ps3 loyalists would be screaming, "Ha ha see sony is being innovative with motion controls while micro is just following wii footsteps with a dildo wand." lol

Kojima, Kojima Productions: Natal is something “like the 2D to 3D shift, or the first time that I ever played with Family Computer [NES],”

Keiji Inafune, Capcom: "its a challenge for us to produce something beyond what we are used to doing. Iam certain Natal will bring that change. This doesn't mean its being replaced, but rather, its being enhanced."

Yozu Sakagami, Namco Bandai: "We are excited like kids with a new toy. Everyone on the team was coming up with new ideas."

Keisuke Kikuchi, Tecmo: "Our team has started planning for games to play on Natal, and we came up with 72 ideas all together."

Kenichiro Imaizumi, Kojima Productions: "Its quite revolutionary to us, we never really thought of it that way. We imagined it before but we never thought it would come so quickly. So it took us by surprise. What we will create on Natal would be something that has no limitations. Ideas from outside the box."

Toshihiro Nagoshi, Sega: "The most innovative side is its controller free and it focuses on voice recognition."

Masanori Takeuchi, From Software: "I think Natal is beyond the concept of any existing game. With Natal, I thought that we'd be able to do something new on the Xbox 360 again. I hope to expand the current gaming experience, rather than evolve gaming into something irrevelant to current games. But with Natal this becomes a possibility."

Naoki Maeda, Konami: "I'd like to create a more realistic music entertainment with Natal for my fans.z"

-bu, bu, but its micro so I know it will suck, says the ps3 fanboy. lol

bushfan5329d ago

think about a game like gears of war..prince of persia...or uncharted...and think about doing what you do in that games just using natal instead of a controller...you can duck, run or jump..natal must track every action..10 min later every1 gonna be tired of jumping ducking or running...how do you gonna do long jumps? how natal will track that motion?..many people want to sit take the pad in hand and get a lot fun playing..anothers like using wiimote..different tastes..but in the end you need a joystick, you can't do every action with a free physic control

BLuKhaos5329d ago

You know what would really be funny? If Kojima ends up making an Eyetoy game for the PS3 instead.Natal is nothing but a glorified Eyetoy ripoff.

Sarcasm5329d ago

Maybe he could make an MGS type game, well doesn't have to be MGS but some other "Stealth Action" title.

You use the 360 controller to walk around. But you can hit a specific action button that switches to Natal. So you can walk up slowly behind the enemy, and perform a neck break or pretend like you're aiming a weapon at him to gain information. In other areas when it requires you to find informtion, you scan through similar to Minority Report.

At certain door check points it requires you to get facial recognition to open the door, thus you have to set your face in front of the TV for it to recognize that you're the character, then the door opens.

Just a few ideas. I think Kojima could do something along those lines, and I'm sold on Natal.

beardpapa5329d ago (Edited 5329d ago )

It'll be interesting if in the end, all these developers making hardcore games for Natal were using it for.... head tracking. Or using it for hand gestures to manipulate inventory, etc, while still requiring a controller to play the actual game. It would defeat the purpose of a controller-less device.

Edit: Sarcasm's post illustrates what I'm exactly thinking of. Which again, would defeat the concept of Natal - which is controller-free gaming.

Cold 20005329d ago (Edited 5329d ago )

Wow cant wait for Kojima to make his dream game come true on the 360 with Natal.

Its going to be something...special...

dragonelite5329d ago

Ooh oke saaking did you just say something good about the 360 im not sure if yor account is hacked or something.

bakasora5329d ago

microsoft contacted kojima?

4Sh0w5329d ago

Hideo Kojima "I am not interested in making games for casual users, but I'n interested in making games that hardcore users always wanted to play."

Wow, isn't that what we all want to hear? I dont see Kojima as this god-like dev he's been made out to be in the past by many on n4g, but if he's going to work on Natal thats definitely the direction we want to see this tech being used for.

lightningsax5329d ago

This is great! Kojima Productions is beginning to spread itself out, and Natal projects will surely be part of their stuff in the future.

Can we just say right now that we still don't know what Natal will actually be at release? By the time Natal comes out, this 360 stuff will be affordable enough for PS3 owners to pick it up. If Natal is treated just as another controller and not a reason to make Wii-esque BS minigames, as this article is showing signs of, the core PS3 gamer would probably want to pick up a Box.

Both systems have a good install base now, and we'll see where that is after the holiday season. There's no reason to hope that Natal bombs - if Sony has one excellent way to play via motions, and Microsoft has another, we're going to want both. If we get good Kojima games for both, it'll reinforce that idea quickly!

Take the reverse of everything I said the same way. Both controllers could suck, we could end up with a Natal port of the MGS iPhone game, and we'll want nothing to do with it.

Who knows? I'm just happy that Kojima isn't just resting on his laurels and he's doing stuff.

slayorofgods5328d ago

I like Kojima. But I'm still skeptical about how over developed wii ware is going to translate into the hardcore gamer realm. Despite MS buying big profile names such as Kojima to work on Natal I believe that MS would be more successful using his talents in making a game on par with his usual work (without the use of Natal).

Playing MGS with motion controls just seems weird to me. I'd prefer a controller over the air for these types of games; but maybe people prefer holding an imaginary gun in their hands and saying bang to make it shoot.

Funky Town_TX5329d ago

I thought this guy worked for no one. Why do you care who he makes games for?

jimbone5329d ago

He's not a traitor he is a game developer. He is not some guy in his mom's basement. He see's opportunity and how to make a new experience. He is not a sad sad fanboy with nothing better to do than sit and type negativity all day, and I personally can't wait to see what he can come up with. He hasn't let me down yet, MGS5 was awesome, as i'm sure the next 2 game will be.By the way your the traitor... to gamers, and give us a bad name so please chill with the hate.

cmrbe5329d ago (Edited 5329d ago )

happy face. I never knew you are a PS fan. You always supported MS.

velcry5329d ago

@happyface: Competition between developers would only lead to better games!

It is a natural tendency for human beings to become more lax when there is no competition. If there were no Wii or Xbox this generation, might Sony not be as pompous and arrogant as they were in the early days of PS3? Would they not expect to easily dominate the market, and therefore, put less effort into things?

I offer a few examples:

1. Leaderboards - when there are leaderboards showing you how you compare against others, you put more effort into the game to become better. Like Batman's Challenge rooms. If there were no leaderboards, I might just get the medals and be done with now, but now I train even harder just to rank higher.

2. Warfare - need I say more? I'm not talking about COD, but about real wars. Wartime = greatest growth spurts of war technology, as each side races to one-up the other.

3. Other games like COD6 and FIFA/PES - Note an interesting trend. For sports games which used to dominate the market, the yearly iterations were hardly much better than the previous year's. But when there is a direct competitor, the game improves the fastest, like between FIFA and PES.

And look at modern shooters like COD6: precisely because other shooters have upped the ante, they can't afford to just put in a few new maps and weapons into COD4 and rename it COD6. They have to really up the action, the intensity, the graphics. Otherwise, people would just go, meh, this ain't much better than KZ2 or COD5 or BF2.

4. Conclusion

HK helping with Natal might sting for Sony supporters, but it actually spurs the industry on. Any ideas or innovations he makes with Natal will invariably be copied by Sony's Wand people, or Nintendo's Wii2 people too.

For me, I'm just glad someone like HK is working on Natal. That means that an industry leader is pushing the technology, and when that happens, games will improve.

Tony P5329d ago

"did he sale his sole?"

I hope English is your second language. Regardless, please study more.

I don't know what people expect him to say... "Natal sucks?"
He's a dev and he can talk intelligently about the promise of the tech. Devs know it's not the Eye Toy. Maybe a logical evolution of it, yes. But they know that nothing in gaming can do what Natal does right now.

cmrbe5329d ago (Edited 5329d ago )

You guys do know that happyface is a x360 troll that is trying to make PS fans look bad right?.

@Tony: My point is you guys are spending so much time responding to him when he was just fooling you people. If you need proof just check his posting history. I happen to know him since i have been on N4G for a long time and he always do this to make PS fans look bad.

Tony P5329d ago

Honestly couldn't tell. What's the difference between a 360 guy pretending to be a PS fanboy and a real PS fanboy? Nothing much imo.
Fanboys all have the same trademark ignorance.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing694d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker4d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos4d ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto4d ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger884d ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies4d ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
