Why the Wii needs a price cut now

With both Sony and Microsoft dropping the price of the PS3 and the Xbox 360 Elite, the Wii is beginning to look like an overpriced console. There a few reasons why Nintendo needs to drop at least $50 off the company's best-selling home console and fast.

Nah doesn't need it now. Nintendo should wait after the next few NPDs.

whatever happened to

oh the wii doesn't even count its not in competition with the ps3/360

This to everyone who thinks Nintendo needs a price cut:

“Essentially Nintendo revenues are effectively flat year-on-year, down minus 2 percent. Comparatively, the balance of the industry — so our competitors combined — is down minus 23 percent. So clearly our competitors are the ones under pressure to change their tactics through the balance of the year.” Reggie of Nintendo of America

It's in a league of its own. Take that how you will but the fact remains that the Wii has left Sony and MS so far behind that it really can't be said to be competing with them. It's audience is, by and large, not the same audience MS and Sony are targeting. 360 has been available at a sku cheaper than Wii for almost a year and still hasn't outsold the Wii nor made a dent in its sales.

No, simply because there is no drastic drop in demand.

I guess you didn't read my entire post but that's essentially what I was saying. Sales are still much higher than the other two consoles so there's no real need to drop the price. BTW I didn't disagree with you.

How many of these Wii Pricecut articles are we going to see? >.>

nillort5394d ago

The Wii doesn't need a pricecut. It's outselling the E74box even though the E74box is cheaper.

The 360 could use a few more pricecuts, though.

Mr Face Creamer5394d ago

It's funny trashie because the 360 is also outselling the BluRayStation, I'm guessing there isn't much bluray out there, but hey maybe when G.I. Joe gets released on BluRay we might see a tiny boost in consoles.

@dillort... The xbox 360 is priced at 199$,249$ and 299$... And what's the PS3 priced at... Oh right... 299$.

You act like price cuts are a cupcakes on a bake sale, no company out there gives " a few more price cuts". Go wank off on your PS3 now, I heard that porn was coming out on BluRay, no wonder why Sony gave a price cut, to promote some pr0n.
