Over 20,000 sign Left4Dead 2 boycott petition

BrutalGamer writes: Valve have always been the gamers dev company. They were the golden boys of community gaming, but this years E3 has thrown a huge spanner in the works of that once pristine reputation. We at BrutalGamer.com take it upon ourselves to analyze the situation in our own - unique - ways and see who is left standing at the end of it.

Sorry jeffBunz
2 Exclusive's already this year
How many the DLCBoX Got
And i aint worring about issue's with the PS3
because there aint Any

JeffGUNZ5452d ago

You don't have to worry about those issues with the PS3, because it takes 5 years for an exclusive to come out.

tehReaper5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

Ohh really, you're signing it? Someone doesn't want Microsoft having another exclusive this holiday season. In fact I'd bet a few of the people who signed are PS3 fanboys.

I mean come on, it's okay to let Madden, Fifa, etc. release every year but Valve can't have one game? I can understand that people wanted the first one to be supported more, but DLC is a fairly new thing.

Here's an part of an article with details about the new game. Seems like a full new game to me.

"In conjunction with the Microsoft press conference unveiling, Valve has provided additional Left 4 Dead details. First, the new melee combat options. We saw the chainsaw teased in the trailer, but players will also be able to wield a frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and additional blunt-force objects. Valve has also detailed the new AI Director 2.0, which will not only affect how many of the undead you'll be tackling at any given time, but will also dictate weather effects, world objects, and pathways provided to the players.

Left 4 Dead 2 is scheduled for release on November 17 on Xbox 360 and PC, with new co-op campaigns, Versus campaigns and Survival maps." - Joystiq

Foxgod5452d ago

20k, for a game that sold 1.5 M +
Not much complainers if you look at it that way....

Troll-Killer5452d ago

...it sold about 3.5 million, PC+360

Arnon5452d ago

Even better? :P

But in all seriousness. We know that when this game releases, it will be just as entertaining as the first one. And by the time it does, the boycott will most likely just kinda die off.

Winter47th5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

Every Source-based game, at its core, is nothing more than a re-skinned version of the last game, with tweaks here and there, but do they complain? no, and that got them the Orange Box. I don't see what's wrong with L4D2 except that they're basing ALL their claims on Valve promising them free content for L4D1, why do they think they won't deliver on that promise? even later down the road, TF2's a perfect example, the true updates arrived a couple'a years after the game's release, do they complain? no.

But now, 20 new weapons, each one's carefully balanced, everything is reskinned, 5 new chapts, new damage models, new ammo types, completely new voice overs 'even though the main characters themselves look terrible', new features. Do they complain? hell yeah! because they'll have to pay for the developer's time and money spent in the time of recession.

That sends a message to Valve: "hey, don't release your games too soon, instead keep making us more free stuff ASAP after the game's released, yeah, even those 5 other games, release free stuff for that too, don't make new games k."

They complain about it coming too soon, well did Valve ever disappoint before? no, they delivered. They've been working on the first L4D since 2004, it wasn't surprising to see L4D2 coming out too soon. Why don't they wait a while to see the end result before they whine?

otherZinc5452d ago

Absolutely, Infinity Ward should be boycotted due to the lame excuse for their omission of co-op through a mission since W@W has it & more.

@Foxgod,
I agree also, 1.5 million purchases -20k is 1.480million.

I'll have 2 copies day 1 for the co-op (get it Infinity Ward co-op)with my kid. I'll rent MW2 this time around, thats how I make my statement.

Veneno5452d ago

This doesn't take in to account the gamers that are upset but still don't sign.

R3D5452d ago

The assumption that ps3 fanboys are the ones doing the boycott is so fkn absurd! First of all, here is the link to the actual boycott page:

http://steamcommunity.com/g...

This N4G article, apart from not listing this seemingly important source, (oh idk the subject is just that isn't it?) is 8 hours old and already the actual boycott site shows that the number is 22,145, pretty fast progress. Now notice.

1) It is on the steam forums.

2) It is a group and not an online petition, although there may also be one in conjunction.

3) You must have a steam account to join.

Nuff said.

evrfighter5452d ago

"3) You must have a steam account to join. "

This is all you really needed to put to shutup the console gamers about some ridiculous theory that it's ps3 users that are signing it...

seriously....I mean really?.....are people dumb enough to think that?

oh wait. I forgot what site I'm on for a second.

Omega45452d ago

I dont see the need to complain about this, just look at every sports game, call of duty, need for speed (i think) have basically the same game released every year at full price yet no one complains.

At least it coming from Valve so you know its going to be at least half decent

peeps5452d ago

I think it's a bit different though. Yes sports games are generally the same and perhaps something should be done about them e.g. updated rosters rather than new games each year and then do a new game every 2-3 years.

but say with COD, COD4 and COD:waw were very similar but, they had completely different guns, completely new multiplayer maps, new game modes (both competative and co-op) and a full single player campaign.

I think ppl's main problem is that L4D is technically a mod and thus ppl are still longing for more L4D content, but instead they are asked to buy a new full priced game.

I'll probably do what i did with L4D though and just wait untill it's on offer on steam. Can't complain with £13, even if i barely played it.

And when it comes down to it, you just know that a lot of ppl will still buy it regardless.

WhittO5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

Well put it this way, Fifa 09 has been out longer and has been supported longer by EA than L4D has by Valve, are we seeing a change in that EA are supporting all of their games and Valve are turing into the money-grabbing monster ? lol

Edit: Also, Cod games are totally new games that have been in development by different studios. It would be like Infinity Ward releasing A few map packs and charging $60 (full-priced game) to play them, even though they could be added as DLC (which is what people are complaining about with L4D 2)

Especailly since the first L4D has only been out 6 months ? is that like a record ?

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken18d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6918d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker18d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6918d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt18d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken18d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville55d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi55d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein55d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos55d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein54d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

Number1TailzFan55d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

MrDead55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

The right wing Tories have been in power in the UK for the 14 years you know the ones that are "anti-woke", blame them for your perceptions.

Killer2020UK55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Are these snowflakes in the room with us now?

This is more faux outrage designed to get hits. The consequences are unfortunately creating hysteria amongst those willing to buy into it and blame "them" or "the left" or "liberals" meanwhile the left are kicking off about genocide, actual real world abhorrent acts. Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long55d ago

Not too mention the fact that some of these game are controversial for you know, underage porn and encouraging rape.

So either the guy just came in to comment snowflakes without reading anything, or he is calling people snowflakes for having a problem with said titles. Crazy how much brain rot someone can have.

banger8856d ago

Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."

"Feminist Whore" lmao

gold_drake55d ago

ill add one more to the list.
drakengard 1.

its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.

ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.

Barlos55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

They're not offensive.

And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!

Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.

Deeeeznuuuts55d ago

Would love a new fat princess game 🤟

CantThinkOfAUsername55d ago

Games literally about sexual assault, mass genocide, bombing civilians, and school shooting. None of which is satirical.

isarai55d ago

Actually it's about fat princesses

Huey_My_D_Long55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Its crazy that people are fixated on Fat princess when clearly the list is going over controversies, and not all of them are equal. Like way worse examples but pretend the entire list is like that.

Single A games and live service games. Those make sense

S2Killinit58d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead58d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

TheEroica58d ago

Sony gamers begging for Xbox games.... Who would've thunk it?

BISHOP-BRASIL58d ago

Yeah, because random site off the internet represents all Sony gamers, they have the letter of attorney and all...

Friendlygamer58d ago

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit58d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer58d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit58d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff218358d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer58d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff218357d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper57d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal58d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood58d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff218357d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde58d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.
