Any price cut for the PS3 would be good news for consumers. At $400, the system is by far the most expensive gaming machine on the market. That, combined with an underwhelming software lineup, has resulted in slow sales.

pwnsause5491d ago

its cnbc, all they think about is teh sales, and not teh games.

You Already Know5491d ago

I don't know what software lineup you've been looking at...

the current lineup is good...and the rest of 09 is looking strong...

these games need a PS3 price cut to reach the sales figures that they deserve...

pwnsause5491d ago

of you read the article, he copied it here. thats what CNBC is saying right now.

DA_SHREDDER5491d ago

I think he was talking about the 360's lineup this year? That would be hysterical if he was referring to Sony considering They have more AAA titles coming this year then Microsoft and Nintendo combined. The psp has better exclusives coming out this year then the 360 or wii.

decimalator5491d ago

I'm not sure I'd call the software lineup underwhelming. Maybe the first year, but definitely not recently. I can't buy games fast enough to keep up with all of the ones that I'm dying for.

CaseyRyback_CPO5491d ago

"That, combined with an underwhelming software lineup, has resulted in slow sales. " -cnbc.

morganfell5491d ago

Ghostface was actually slamming cnbc. He is supporting the software lineup. He should have used quotes so the people that actually didn't read the article would understand his intent.

red2tango5491d ago

The PS3 has the best games! ARE YOU ON F*CKING CRACK!?!? I'm not saying 360 doesn't have good games but PS3 has amazing games. You are not a gamer, and have no taste!!!!

Nikuma5491d ago

I hooked you up with some bubbleage ghostface. I know you just meant to quote the article. :P

Lifendz5491d ago

Underwhelming? Don't make statements like that if you intend for people to take you seriously. Sony's lineup has been the best so far this year, and will be the best for the remainder of the year.

Now, a price cut would be great because it would get people like you and the knowitalls in the media to shut the bleep up already about it. And, if can take your head out of your bleep long enough to remember, Sony was DOMINATING MS when it's price was only 100 bucks more. MS actually dropped price out of desperation.

But whatever, you're a fanboy. And facts are probably lost on you.

Traveler5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

Well, yes, Ghostface should have used quotation marks or otherwise indicated in some way that he was quoting something. I understood it was a quote because I read the article, but for clarity it would have been better if he used quotation marks.

Anyway, I have both consoles, and software wise the PS3 is doing great. The 360 obviously has a larger library (but then again so does the Wii), but the PS3 tends to have a higher percentage of games that actually interest me. The 360 also has some great games that I wouldn't want to live without (Mass Effect, Gears of War 1 & 2, Tenchu Z, and Halo 3), but honestly, for how long the 360 has been out, I am surprised there aren't more must-have exclusives.

I think the PS3 could really benefit from a price cut, but then again, now might not be the right timing for Sony. With its strong lineup of current and upcoming software the PS3 will do just fine. Third place isn't the end of the world like some armchair analysts try to make it out to be.

Bathyj5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

Traveller, I could live without all those XB games you mentioned except Tenchu. Funny how a series that never scored better than 7 or 8 can still be so appealling to the right people.

Bubbles for showing I'm not the only one giving Tenchu some love.

PS
If From Software is reading, I have about a thousand ideas that would improve the game no end. Call me. ;)

ElementX5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

What are you smoking? I want some

P.S. How can this fanboy have 1 more bubble that I do?

JD_Shadow5491d ago

To be fair to CNBC, though, they also said this later on:

"Microsoftand Nintendo have both established notable leads in hardware sales in this generation of gaming consoles, leaving Sony, the one time king of the video game hill, in the unfamiliar position of third. The company has a strong software lineup planned for the back half of 2009, though, which when paired with a less expensive system, could help them regain ground quickly."

My guess is that they were commenting on what's already out, which is still flawed thinking, but not as bad as what it seemed to be.

@Casey: WHAT defense force? You're seeing things, apparently.

BWS19825491d ago

because firstly, the PS3 was a cheaper choice for my needs, the MGS4 bundle was less expensive than the combined purchases of the 360 Elite and accessories needed for what I wanted (PS3 came with more of what I wanted but still didn't include all of it). So always calling it the most expensive is relatively misleading depending on whom the customer is.

Second, isn't "CNBC" the same group as "MSNBC" when you look at the corporate web of things, why would anything rationally spoken come from them regarding the PS3 or it's outlook?

Thugbot1875491d ago

I was listening to NPR yestereday and Sony made the news because they will be posting a loss for this year. It said they were close down plants and so on. My thought is I don't know if they can afford to take any losses from the game department. So if they drop price it couldn't go lower that would they are breaking even with for production of the PS3.

redsquad5491d ago

Bubble up for GHOSTFACE as compensation for the ones he'll probably lose due to knee-jerk responses (but you should have used quotes!!!);)

The price cut is coming, it's just a matter of time. It may come at E3, it may come in the fall, but it's inevitable.

decimalator5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

@ DA_SHREDDER

Hahaha!!! Yeah, I hadn't thought of that. Finally the PSP dry spell is starting to end!

I'm sure there's a new Halo or Gears in development, but there's only so many franchises and devs willing to forego the extra sales from being multi-platform these days.

ghostface5491d ago

If you read the article, you'll know that I took that From said article and paste it here, questioning why they would say the ps3 game library is underwhelming.

Reshun5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

It would've been a best decision to put the statement between quotes so people would know that it's taken directly from the article. Considering it's the first comment on this page, people would likely notice it before they even fully read what is written on the linked article. It's going to get ugly if this article gains some heat.

Naucious5491d ago

cuz i actually thought you were stating it, but now hearing that its a quote from the article makes a lil sense....

n e ways we dont really know what they might be planning.... might bring in a new sku who knows, were all hoping for a price cut which i still think they dont need, but its only speculation...

i guess we can only help but wait to what sony actually says come E3

SSCOOLCHEA5491d ago

next thing there going to complain about is the power button.

lets see first it was games now its price next is the power button or the contoller needs batteries instead of blutooth .

Nihilism5491d ago

Thought I was the only one who remembered Trinity lol very underrated

Yui_Suzumiya20h ago

WET and Quantum Theory were both phenomenal

P_Bomb17h ago

I remember Stranglehold! One of the first DLC packs of its time. A bit expensive, but cheap by today’s standards.

Chocoburger17h ago

Another PS3 hidden gems list, and yet again Time Crisis 4 and Time Crisis Razin' Storm get snubbed. Such fun games, that shouldn't be forgotten. If only we got a home port of Time Crisis 5: Mastermind Edition.

-Foxtrot8h ago

WET is something I wish they'd remake, they had so many great ideas but not all of them were executed properly

It had a lot of potential

Also Wanted Weapons of Fate is another game that had some new fun gameplay ideas.

It's an outstanding game and so was The Old Blood. Also a lost era of gaming. Interesting, I received a physical copy of The Old Blood 9 years ago today from Poland. It was digital only in North America initially upon release so I had to import.
