The Agency detailed by Sony

Sony Online Entertainment has revealed details for their upcoming MMOFPS title The Agency.

It's been really dry with information on this game, but from what I've read it seems to have quite some potential. Would be nice if Sony were to show it at E3.

yeh it does seem a long time ago that we first heard about this game and haven't had much info on it at all. It certainly sounds an interesting concept but i imagine it will take a long time to get right (perhaps why we haven't heard much)

I think they may have moved resources for this game over to DC Universe Online. The game was first expected Holiday of 2007 (November - January) and now we've had a year without any new information.

I hope they're still working on it and improving on what was there before so it can be an entertaining game upon release. I am more inclined to wait for DC Universe Online at this time, though.

If you were Sony would release 3 MMO's (the agency, DC:online and MAG) on a console during the same time period?

If you would, then you would clearly make a huge mistake!

As a huge fan of MMO's I can see no valid reason as to why 3 MMO's on a console would reach their full potential (given enough time to build your experience etc and for teams/groups to be established) if they were to be released during the same time frame (an MMO's time frame is usually a year if not more).

In my opinion they should release MAG this year, at least 6 months later DC Universe online and late 2010 if not later The Agency. This way they could ensure a steady and regular player presence with each title.

We havent had info for a long time , but at least we had plenty in those walkthrough gameplay videos .

WHile here all we got is a dry report of stuff we already knew .

Ho hum. Not much we didn't really know there was there? Give us a better look at E3 Sony, please? This seems to have been at the same stage for over a year now and though I realise they've been at it the whole while to still not have a date or even new footage is mighty frustrating.

Sony revealed this sooo long ago that it just seems like it's going nowhere but the idea seems really sound and I pray that people don't lose interest cos of the interminable wait we've got.

I just think they are restraining themselves . In fact they have shown early quite a lot , far more than most mmo at early stages .. too much even .

Maybe because they felt they had to prove something about it , because it's also a console project .
I'm not worried , they'll probably show a lot and maybe even give a release date at E3 . And this announce is mostly and probably just a reminder for E3 .

just curious...is there going to be a monthly fee to play MMO games over PSN? And if so, i know that on PC the monthly rate is around $15.

If there is a monthly fee...will PS3 owners that buy MMO's be fine with paying $15. Since a lot of Sony loyalist complaine about MS charging $50 a year for LIVE saying that it is too expensive, $15 a month for a year is $180.

Is this now to be accepted...to pay for playing? I don't play any MMO's because the monthly charge is too high, however $50 a year is fine for me. I know that Phanasy star charges a "hunter license" over Live which is why i don't play that game, but will the Sony faithfuls be willing to pay this when they have a problem with MS charging $50 a year for Live?

The Agency & Free Realms is free to play but will have a few premium items that you can buy. You don't have to pay to play it online and the premium items are optional. Sony is also trying to make DC Universe be the same way.

Mark my words. This game will never see the light of day along with vaporware like Conan and Huxley.

The entire concept of MMO on the console is an autofail. The only company with enough vision to pull off something like this is Blizzard and they're making too much money on the PC to care.

The "mmos dont works on console" is just some PR crap , devs and publishers that fails to publish one (like microsoft) or dont want risking their toe there spit .

Final fantasy XI was and is a success , so were the numerous versions of phantasy star online .
Monster hunter ps2 was a big success too and obviously keeps being one everywhere it goes . Same goes for animal crossing , wich i loathe , but isnt any worse than a second life

I dont care one bit for huxley but it's featured at e3 . As for AOC , funcom is a failure on every platform so no surprise there .

DCU online is already a success to come . Plenty sucky mmos works and got a big following , i dont see one of superheros for the first time with a Major comics universe license fail .

common price is around 12-15 USD per month for subscription based MMOs. Nickle&Diming MMOs are harder to sort out, as there is no fixed monthly rate.

Almost 100% certain that DC Online will have a subscription cost. 95% certain with The Agency.

How much is uncertain, but expect $15/month or ~$11/month w/a 12-month subscription plan.

I'd say you're 100% certain of nothing . They did mention anyway they were studying some micro payment alternatives with the Agency , like with Free realms and many free games with paid items and advantages .

SoE also got an habit or proposing paid services with their Station system .. it's only a matter of them wanting or being able to do it with the Agency .

You might want to read what I wrote above again. You might become 100% certain that what you typed didn't make much sense when directed at me.

The times that they've mentioned micro-payment elements pales in comparison to the number of times they've mentioned subscription payments plans. It's all possible, but without any new information in the last year, nothing is 100% known.

I do know this, The Agency going with a similar micro-payment plan as Free Realms will not do well with your general console gamers. Look at how they are with DLC exploitation as it is. Micro-payments will only result in similar hatred.

i 'll be more than happy if playing THE AGENCY is free of cost but with paid items ( to fuel the game ) something like HOME . Others mmo were hosted OUTSIDE of a structure like the PSN .And the agency is a sony product .it would make sense if they incorporated this game into The psn experience .

Then again , THE AGENCY is also a PC product ...

But i can dream , right ????

I had never even heard of this game before today , the premise sounds very good and i'll certainly be on the lookout for more info on this one.

On the topic of subscription fees i'd be mighty peeved if we're talking anything more than £5-6 per month , i've never been part of anything like that before and after shelling out for a game i'm loathe to pay for the "privielge" of playing it , it'll have to be something outstanding and totally unmissable if i'm going to have to pay more than that.
