Top 5 AAA Titles Between Now and the End of the Year

2009 is already off to a fast start when it comes to AAA titles, but the best is still to come! With releases like Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5, and Street Fighter IV already out it seems hard to think that 2009 can produce five more games of equal or even superior quality, but the rest of the year is filled with some great AAA titles.

Better question. Why is Halo 3: ODST in there? It's an expansion pack for a game that couldn't even beat COD4 or BioShock for game of the year in 2007. Seems to me like that is the only 360 exclusive title that they could think of for 2009 and they don't want to seem biased or anything haha. I thought Hip Hop Gamer was all about "telling it like it is"? And yeah, I too would like to borrow that crystal ball 'cause apparently there aren't anymore games coming out this year, other than the ones they listed. Not even Heavy Rain, which was confirmed for 2009 way before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was. Tsk tsk.

None of them played the final build of any of those games they put on the list. So to say a game is a AAA game before seeing any in-game footage of it is pure idiotic.

Definitely agree with you. There are like 8 million halo 3 owners out there. Not to mention the rest of the 360 owners that will have no games to speak of by then, they would naturally buy their only option and that would be halo 3's expansion.

We might even see a spark in halo 3's sales as well. MS will spin it off as usual bragging on how their title kicked everyone's butt which it will, providing me and others with a belly busting laugh!

You do know that AAA has more to do with the overall promotion and budget as well as the quality, right? And it doesn't take a crystal ball to figure out that every game on the list is going to be treated as a AAA game from their respective publishers, developers, and console makers.

I agree with the list but I would have replaced HALO ODST with Mass Effect 2.

I reckon that list is fair enough although I would swap MW2 and Uncharted 2 straight away! Also not too sure about infamouses inclusion, I don't think we know enough about the game to say anything about it.

they are all just as stupid. You can't predetermine what scores a game will get. AAA = a 10 on a 10 point review scale. Why are people so stupid? No matter who wrote it, it is just as incorrect as the other.

MattG, I'm not hating on the games you chose, in fact, this is one of the few times I actually agree with you. I also think those games will all be great, but one cannot just predict things like that and announce them as top 5 of the year.

The entire reason for the existence of the term AAA is because of sales. Regardless of what your connotations are, the term AAA means that a game will sell based on the name alone. It goes back to actors and movies; an A list actor is good enough to sell the movie on his or her own, a la George Clooney or the like.

yea halo 3 is one of the best but sales still don't make a game good, besides FF13 and operation flashpoint 2 will most likely be my favourite, ff7 is one of my favorites and iv been looking for a realistic shooter for ever, I never heard of operation flashpoint or ARMA and there old now.

I have high hopes for Operation Flashpoint 2 as well, if (and I think it's a big if) they actually manage to deliver what they have promised so far, it will be a truly epic game. Guess we can only wait and see.

If you want to call it an expansion than go ahead. It has a 6-7 hour SP campaign and online. It's a disc game. Halo 1/2/3 were all GOTY candidates, so I'm going off their past success on the game. Also when you think AAA titles, Halo is easily in the Top 3.

But its still an expansion pack much like gta lost and damned, yea it was like 15hrs+ but it is still a DLC just like ODST is expansion

And just b/c of "HALO" doesnt simply put it top 3 i mean did u see "HALO WARS".

Also, All the games that are listed are way more interesting than ODST i mean come on.....

And dont just go by past succes b/c the first Killzone wasnt really succesful but Killzone 2 is mindblowing

Calling a title AAA before it even hits is even more stupid. I mean, DMC was considered a "AAA" title by the media.

DMC2? Not so much.

AAA is a tern designated by the developers for the amount of money, and leeway a company gets to make a game. It is just this generation that "AAA" is awarded to a game that scores high and sells millions. at least that is how i remember it, back 5 years ago, but these days a lot have changed.

As I understand it, on the internet it means quality while in dev terms it is literally the amount of money spent on a project. So undoubtedly in literal terms, these are triple A titles given the studios that are making them.

"AAA" can have multiple meanings but what HHG is referring to is games that have the highest possibility of being AWESOME...
Its more based on the past franchise e.g Call of duty MW1 was definitely AAA meaning that the game is awesome, high reviews, high sales, great quality, etc.
Anybody can expect the next installment to be just as great

I consider an AAA game 95 and upwards.
My reason for this is because a normal "A" is 85 and above so this is just logical reasoning.
85-89 "A" or A-
90-94 "AA" or A
95-100 "AAA" or A+

When going by review scores, it's generally accepted this way:

AAA = 90-99
AA = 80-89
A = 70-79

There is nothing lower than that, because who gives a crap about games that get <70 anyway, right? AAAA is for games with perfect scores. Of course, when using the "AAA" system for purposes of reviews, it will changed based off of the place doing the review. So that <70 game from one site, could be a AAA game from another. It's one of the reasons I think the format is pretty ignorant in most cases and you will usually see it on the specific website's forums.

Resident Evil 5 is entertaining me right now, and it seems to never get boring or old. I love RE5. It will do a god job of entertaining me till MF2 comes out.

According to meta, Uncharted one wasn't even AAA.

I know, its unbelievable, but with all the hype Uncharted 2 is getting, expect it to hit around 92-93 on meta.

Great list of upcoming games potential AAA titles including: Halo 3: ODST, UnCharted 2 and Bioshock 2. Three interesting games coming in 2009.
Worthy number one contender for 2009. Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 will sell huge and get AAA reviews.
I do not know much about Infamous though.
7 out of 8 games mentioned in his articles are all sequel games. New AAA IP titles are few and far between.

To all you idiots that only own one console and only ever play that one console and dismiss all games that appear on other consoles and aren't real gamers, Halo 3 ODST is not an expansion. Its going to be a disc based release that does not need Halo 3 to play the game. Its an expansion of the story yes but it is not an expansion of the actual game as its ia a game within itself. GTA lost and damned needs the original game to play, Halo ODST does not. If you were actually interested in gaming you would actually know that.
