Puzzle Quest Galactrix is an innovative blend of puzzle game and role-playing game. It features an extensive storyline set in a distant future where humankind has developed intergalactic navigation. The main character, either a man or a woman according to the player's choice, is a spaceship pilot who is joined by five other crew members of either human or alien race, each carrying a special ability. Fights against enemies such as space pirates are puzzle games of the "match-three" type. Players have to match three or more gems of the same color on a hexagonal board where gravity and conditions vary due to ambient factors. Several variations of this basic puzzle experience enable players to perform other activities in the game, such as mining asteroids, hacking interstellar travel ports and bargaining with shop owners for lower prices.
