You have at LEAST an entire year, maybe even nearly two years. You can't honestly tell me it's impossible for you to save up $400-$500 in that time to upgrade to a better system.

darthv72166d ago

I can see how this game could cause some SS owners to upgrade to SX. Not only would they get the better experience for GTA but for all other XB games they may have already.

Obscure_Observer166d ago

"I can see how this game could cause some SS owners to upgrade to SX. Not only would they get the better experience for GTA but for all other XB games they may have already."

I agree. And I think the new (hopefully cheaper) all-digital SX console along with the new Sebile controller will be tempting and hard for SS owners to resist.

ThePacemaker165d ago

Series X?

Nah. The definitive console to play GTA6 would be PS5 Pro.

MrNinosan165d ago

Or even better, upgrade to a PS5 Pro, which most likely is out by the time GTAVI is released.

EvertonFC165d ago

The way sales and this gen is going for Xbox there more likely to swap to playstation imo.

Christopher165d ago

I've watched some Series S CP2077 2.0 gameplay and it's remarkable how different the world feels with less happening to account for the Series S vs XSX or PS5.

With what this trailer is selling, I'd want the best I can get for a home console to make sure it feels as much like a breathing and realistic world as possible.

I think a lot of people who play these games for online play, though, won't care at all as long as they get the same experience.

RaidenBlack165d ago

Rockstar managed the vast GTA V (with character switching) on the PS3 & X360 .... not an easy feat.
I think they'll find comfort in 900p~1080p + 30fps combo with draw distance reduced for Series S.

Abear21165d ago

Exactly, low shadow detail, reduced draw distance, reduced NPC and traffic density—just look how much better gta5 got over years of better hardware. It will likely take the next generation of consoles to see gta6 run like that

dumahim165d ago

With what they're trying to push on screen, I think 900p is a bit optimistic.

poppatron165d ago

But the game was built from the ground up with that platform in mind

anast165d ago

Usually I disagree with comments like this but in this case it is fair for most people, including the one that wrote the article.

EvertonFC165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

Exactly, I've always said if your struggling to buy the console then you probably shouldn't even be buying a console as we all know it's an expensive hobby lol

ChasterMies165d ago

This article is written by someone who has all gaming consoles and a PC for “work”. What the article should say is “Buyer beware: the Xbox Series S is not a true next gen console, will not get you through this generation’s best games. Buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X instead.”

EvertonFC165d ago

Imagine on Christmas Day getting a series S, hiding your disappointment from the parents so you don't feel ungrateful ☹️

SyntheticForm165d ago

What a silly article.

Game's out in a few years. If you can't save up for a more powerful console in that time, you should not be gaming, you should be trying to make more money.

darthv72166d ago

they used BG3 as an example... that was for split screen. Unless this game has split screen then there is nothing to worry about. Plus this is R*, not Larian.

blacktiger165d ago

It's no split screen you shouldn't worry abouts it's the open world you should worry about after all its R*

Series S is going to have bigger problems

frostypants165d ago

It's never that simple. This game has almost nothing in common with BG3.

-Foxtrot166d ago

I’d be annoyed if I found out despite the game being a technical marvel Rockstar were still held back by the Series S

They could be pushing the game all 100% but if you find out they could have went to 110% if not for the S, you’d be a little miffed at what could have been.

gold_drake166d ago

wither they make the S version to be low resolution

or they have to make cut backs for both versions, which would suck.

if BG3 has had issues with the S, u better believe Rockstar has the same issues

Hofstaderman165d ago

They should just leave the Series S out of the equation but yeah....75% of all Series sold are the S. MS screwed themselves and everyone else with this last gen pos.

Obscure_Observer166d ago

Did the Series S hold back any PC or PS5 versions of games back?

BG3? Alan Wake 2? Remnant 2? Lords of the Fallen? No?

Then how the Series S would hold any current gen game back?

Stop with this FUD nonsense already

-Foxtrot166d ago

“BG3? Alan Wake 2? Remnant 2? Lords of the Fallen? No?”

Well for starters BG3 had to go through some wild development examination, through ever book and cranny to get it out on the Series S and let’s not bullshit they obviously got some mighty backing from Microsoft to achieve this, they needed this game released while still sticking mostly to their shitty parity rule

The others? Who knows. We will never get a developer saying “if we were exclusive on X console we could have added Y and Z more”

You got a mighty nerve talking about Fud with the amount of bullshit from your comments on here

sparky77166d ago

@-Foxtrot

You said all that and couldn't even answer Obscure_Observer question: Did the Series S hold back any PC or PS5 versions of games back?

The answer is NO. The PC and PS5 version were not held back, not a single game on other platforms has been held back. The Xbox versions might get delayed or even cancelled but that doesn't affect you and your PS5.

So stop complaining about something which isn't a concern for you.

darthv72166d ago

@Fox, Larian had said the issue they ran into with BG3 on the SS was the lower amount of memory allocated caused problems getting split screen to work consistently at a good frame rate. SS did not keep the game from running. And as a result of Phil giving the ok to drop split screen is where they discovered they could optimize it further and found a flaw in their programming that was then rectified for all other versions as a result.

So in that games situation, the SS actually helped Larian make a better product than they initially released.

Crows90165d ago

When you have a piece in your car from a decade ago you bet it can hold back your car overall. So yes the series s holds back this console generation.

northpaws165d ago

So you really think, when creating a game, you have to take into consideration of one weaker console, doesn't has any negative impact at all?

Whenever you develop for more than one console, it ALWAYS hold back in some ways.

gold_drake165d ago

that is not the question, wether the S holds the ps5 or pc version back.

that is not the question lol

the question was if the Series S can even run it. and if so, how badly

dont bring other consoles into this very obvious and linear question lol

Obscure_Observer165d ago

@gold_drake

"the question was if the Series S can even run it. and if so, how badly"

You´re not very bright, are you?

So Rockstar *confirms* GTAVI for the Xbox Series S and the first question you have for the developer is: Can the Series S even run it? Duh.

I can see the developer´s eyes rolling from a mile away. XD

frostypants165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

"Did the Series S hold back any PC or PS5 versions of games back?"

Yes. It likely did.

Neonridr165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

what would be the difference if Sony releases a Pro model late next year and then you consider the same thought process of the base PS5 holding back what could have been on a fully pushed Pro model version of the game..

or is that different because it's Playstation?

-Foxtrot165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

Lmao

Here we go, twisting a comment so you can make a witty remark and walk away thinking “ha. Got him”

First of all I hate mid gen consoles, I’ve been saying this since last gen. However they’ve been developing GTAVI with these consoles in mind for years, it’s not like they know about mid gen consoles but I don’t think it would bother then as they know not everyone will buy one, the install base will have the base consoles. There’s never going to be games held back as the base consoles will take priority.

Second of all you are comparing a mid gen console to what Microsoft regards as an equal to the Series X, their base console

Literally an apples to oranges argument and you know it.

A for effort though

Neonridr165d ago

@Foxtrot - PC development isn't hampered by the minimum required PCs out there. You think Alan Wake 2 doesn't look and run gorgeously on the top end hardware compared to the minimum required stuff?

GTA VI will run and look just fine on the PS5 / XSX. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

RupeeHoarder165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

what? the PS5 currently = Series X. If Sony's base model has as high of performance as Microsoft's higher performance model..... nothing you said makes any sense. I'd be concerned about the experience on Series S.

Neonridr165d ago

@RupeeHoarder - the point is when mid-gen refreshes come (assuming they do) then the base consoles would be holding them back from being fully realized. Did we say that the PS4 held back the Pro? No.

BehindTheRows165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

PC development IS impacted by the weaker machines. Just because they've figured out ways to adjust doesn't mean they aren't obstacles. Anyone wanting knowledge on the subject need not look further than nearly all of Crytek's Crysis interviews from '06-'08.

Yes, Alan Wake looks phenomenal, but if developed on the better hardware (and thus, ported backwards), it would look CONSIDERABLY better than it does. Those are strictly financial decisions, and this is Game Development 101. Happy to debate it after 8 years of college on it.

Otherwise, Fox is absolutely right. The Series S will remain the lowest common denominator. And yes, the PS5 would also hold back the PS5 Pro under the same circumstances. Again, that's the science behind it. The Series S holds all devices back that have to run the same game as it, even if devs find ways around that. They still have to consider the weaker hardware.

darthv72165d ago

Neon... it's never the same situation for PS as it is XB. Nobody said the Pro was held back by the base PS4 but many did say the One X was held back by the One. That is just the kind of double standard people have.

Reality is, nothing has been held back due to there being a least common denominator. Not in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and now 9th gen.

-Foxtrot165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

@Neonridr

"then the base consoles would be holding them back from being fully realized"

What are you not getting here

It wouldn't matter as it's a mid gen console, yeah they would be held back but it's not the main base console which has an 8 year lifespawn which developers can plan around. It's just something to get a little bit more money from people, the nice new shiny toy but in reality they know there's going to be limits, they know they will be held back because of their base consoles

Xbox Series S is one of Microsofts BASE CONSOLES, it came out from the start, it's what developers had to think about for this generation cycle and also the shitty parity rules Microsoft has in place. Microsoft basically f***** themselves and others.

Even if you have a mid gen console, the new Xbox won't be held back by the Series X but also the Series S

If developers struggle now with the parity rule with the Series X and S then how the actual f*** will they be able to do parity with something even more powerful than the Series X? It would be pointless

Like I said, it's bad comparison, mid gen consoles won't really hold anything back in reality because they are an after thought, the developers main goal in the base consoles with the install base. It's why everyone has been p***** off that some games wouldn't let the PS4/Xbox One go. Look at Horizon Forbidden Wests DLC Burning Shores, it looks fantastic and the main game could have looked just as good if they let the PS4 go.

Fox,

"Well for starters BG3 had to go through some wild development examination, through ever book and cranny to get it out on the Series S and let’s not bullshit they obviously got some mighty backing from Microsoft to achieve this, they needed this game released while still sticking mostly to their shitty parity rule"

Dude, none of what you said answered obscure's question, how did the S hold back any of those games? The PS5 & PC versions of BG3 were launched, AW2 was magnificent, Remnant 2 is a blast, and LotF was well received...so among these great games, where did the S hold anything back...no make believe stories, tell us how?

The optimization and examination that you mentioned are actually being used to make every version better, so in a weird way, the SS made the game slightly better for all consoles.

"The others? Who knows. We will never get a developer saying “if we were exclusive on X console we could have added Y and Z more”

Ok so then we are creating scenarios and making it sound like reality? You don't know, I don't know, so why are we materializing made-up fears/concerns/negativity? There is no indication that the SS has held any of the games he listed back, creatively speaking. The PC and PS5 version are loved and is in contention for GoTY... doesn't sound held back a all.

"They could be pushing the game all 100% but if you find out they could have went to 110% if not for the S, you’d be a little miffed at what could have been."

What, huh? Fox stop making stuff up man, you seem to create issues that don't exist and then act mad about it. 110% and they didn't solely because of the S..can't make this shit up...oh wait you can lol.

--Onilink--165d ago

Enough with the holding back nonsense.. you cant have it both ways… if you are going to keep saying that developers have to dedicate a lot of time to get a Series S version out, then that means that Series S did NOT define the development of other platforms…therefore, not holding back anything

If they were able to port to Series S with barely any work, then you could say that MAYBE they used that console as a baseline rather than the Series S and PS5, which is something that basically has only happened for cross gen titles anyway

Practically every single developer out there consistently has to work on so many different spec levels just by virtue of doing the PC version, why is it suddenly the Series S any different? If anything, low end PC is harder because they still need to worry about multiple vendors, drivers and technologies.

bad = give it mo me NOW!! we can't wait another year.!!!!
good = I have another year to save up another £500 for a ps5pro

MestreRothN4G3d ago

You’ll wait at least 2.
The fake 2025 release date is not counting the multiple delays.

Sonic18813d ago

Did anyone assume a different release date? I didn't

notachance3d ago

I didn’t but now that they confirmed it I expect winter or spring 2026 instead

nzjono3d ago

Not everyone lives in Merica or uses the term fall to describe Autumn, state the month.

isarai3d ago

That's why google exists 👍

romulus233d ago

I live in "Merica" and I don't call it fall, I call it Merlinpeen. FYI Fall/Autumn is the months of Sept, Oct, Nov.

Rebel_Scum3d ago

Ya know the seasons pretty much work opposite each other right. So autumn in the north is spring in the south.

But I agree with you on the whole season mention for release windows. I still get annoyed by online sales that are called summer sales in bloody winter.

CantThinkOfAUsername3d ago

Stating the month is not a good PR practice.

Suave_Langosta2d ago

You sound like a real blast at parties! Maybe not everyone takes your personal journey through life into account when they are making a point. Use Google and stop complaining.

Yeah, but we might have Red Dead 3 to fill the gap?

It's disappointing that this game won't be on PC. Would love to play this game in native 4K 60fps-120fps with raytracing

Tacoboto35d ago

It'll be on PC in time for Rockstar and Take Two to want more money.

You're also not getting native 4K120RT with any hardware out there anytime soon.

Sonic188135d ago (Edited 35d ago )

The upcoming RTX 5000 series should be able to do that.

Abear2134d ago

Don’t worry they’ll sell you it again in a few years…and again…and again…

JackBNimble34d ago

What about the ps5 pro? I keep hearing how great it will be.

Sonic188134d ago

GTA6 will still run in dynamic 4K 30fps on the Pro. Mark my words

BREAKING NEWS: people have differing opinions.

jambola35d ago

you're telling me not every single human ever will love this game?? breaking news indeed

Kombatologist35d ago

I think the main concern is the ramifications GTA+ will have on GTA6 Online. Fans are already divided about it. Not everyone wants to pay a monthly subscription fee (that has already seen a price increase) for a $70+ game on top of already having to pay for PS+/XBL.

Unknown_Gamer579435d ago

I think a decade of hype will do that for even the best games. With that said, chill out, it’s going to be a great time regardless.

I remember the same articles were all over the internet when GTA IV was pre release and it blew everyone away.

Vi will do the same

Skuletor40d ago

IV was pretty good but I remember being disappointed a lot of the features introduced in San Andreas didn't carry over or at least not as feature rich versions of them. Car customisation, learning different fighting styles, increasing your stats,, like going to the gym to raise your strength, plus the jetpack didn't return for example.

lucasnooker40d ago

I was the same. I was disappointed GTA IV didn’t even have planes in the game. San Andreas was a much better game to me. Loved V though

Abear2140d ago

In R* we trust.

Will it be as good as we all want it to be? No, it’ll be 30fps, lol.

But will it be the game we want it to be on PS6? Probably!

We are basically guaranteed to get the most detailed open world ever created, so there is that.

GamerRN40d ago

I'm just praying the frame rate is unlocked so I can get 40fps with VRR... That will be very playable for me

D0nkeyBoi40d ago

-It'll be woke (based on all the censorship R* did in retconned remakes of older titles)
-Gameplay will have nothing new to it (it looks lime a suped-version of gta online, according to all those leaked videos R* failed to scrub)
-Still can't enter more than 1% of buildings

Just saying, go ahead and call me negative. I'll come back to this comment to say I told ya so in a year or 2.

Huey_My_D_Long40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Lol Woke

GTA5 and GTA4 is woke by some peoples standards..and those games did well. 1 even best around. nothings ever slow them down
GTA SA touched on inner city violence and the role of corruption of the police in said violence. Even had pot smoking hippie go on about how the government listens into our phone calls, before the NSA spying was a thing.
Im not saying shits not woke. I saying yall have poor media comprehension because the old GTAs are woke by yall standards.

Literally like people calling the New Xmen reboot "Woke"

nevin140d ago

"Literally like people calling the New Xmen reboot "Woke"

In what ways the New Xmen is woke?

KyRo40d ago

I don't agree with the woke comment but I think people are expecting this to revolutionise gaming and it won't. It will do what it does best at its absolute best but people are expecting a monumental change/shift for the industry but that won't happen but it doesn't need to and that's fine.

DivineHand12540d ago

All I want is a performance mode.

CrimsonWing6940d ago

Has any R* game watchdogged us with trailers?

KyRo40d ago

They haven't. They made RDR2 look fun in the trailers though, something that it was not.

BillyCrystals40d ago

@kyro
Unless you're just not a fan of westerns, I truly feel sorry for you if you didn't find joy and fun in RDR2.

KyRo40d ago

@Billy, it's widely regarded as a boring game. It's a rich and beautiful open world but the gameplay is chore to play.
