Well with that kind of pc and the type of graphics...

fr0sty382d ago

8K only means that the polygons themselves are rendered at that resolution, the textures will still be the same quality as on switch... you can render Mario 64 at 8K, but it'll still be a blurry mess texture-wise.

moongrim382d ago

you have no idea what you're talking about, you sound like a fool who believes his own made up nonsense

Tapani382d ago

People may disagree with you, but resolution is not an answer to everything in game design. I agree, the textures don't look anywhere near the standard of 4K, but the fps is much better.

I would like to play this at say locked 1080p or 4K at 60fps, but only with improved textures. I think the eventually remastered version for Switch's successor is the way I will go. Wife doesn't care about the fps, she just wants to play the game itself at whatever resolution and simply loves the visuals. I bet most gamers are like that, and that's why the game is selling.

I would say that your Mario Kart 64 example does not work here well, though. There's a difference between slow 4MB RAM and fast 4GB RAM (N64 vs Switch), plus the compression techniques, so TotK textures are way above what Mario Kart 64 had.

In principle, though, I actually like the original look of the PSX and PS2 games as they are more uniform than the "crisp" emulated versions.

fr0sty382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

Moongrim, then enlighten us all to what is wrong with my statement, instead of just tossing out insults and then running off... which only shows you actually don't know what you are talking about. I develop games, do you?

Rendering resolution doesn't magically upscale the textures as well. Those are separate image files that are at a set resolution. Unless you do some AI upscaling (which is limited in what it can do, it can make it look better, but you're not going to get 4K textures out of a N64 game's textures, for instance).

This is why they have to "remaster" games... it isn't just flipping a switch and telling a game to render at a higher resolution and bam, it's done... they have to swap out every texture in the game with a higher resolution one, and often times that requires the texture (depending on the age of the game) to be recreated entirely. You can take HD textures and upscale them to 4K using AI, and it'll look good... but not as good as just recreating the original texture in native 4K resolution.

So again, prove me wrong or STFU.

fr0sty382d ago

*crickets*

Thought so... The ignorant can disagree all they want, but until they can prove me wrong, that's all they can do. Go take a course in game design, build a game or two of your own, then get back to me.

Elit3Nick382d ago

Polygons are related to 3d objects, namely the number of planes that a given 3d model possesses. Polygons are completely unrelated to render resolution, which determines the number of PIXELs on screen, and are unaffected by a resolution bump just like with texture resolution. So yes, you are incorrect, although I don't know if it was just a simple word slip-up or not.

dadavis1992382d ago

Elit3Nick

He didn’t say the polycount increases. When you increase render resolution, you increase the number of pixels that the polygons are displayed with. He’s not wrong

Case in point, this Mario Kart 64 emulation at 4K... doesn't look much better than the n64 game aside from the sharper polygon edges. The textures are still just as blurry as N64.

moongrim382d ago

Sorry but you're still absolutely clueless, go back to elementary school and then get back to me cause you're brain needs to be rebooted.

dadavis1992382d ago

@moongrim He's right though, so why do you keep talking?

abstractel382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

Well, there is some filtering going on that will make the textures look better even though I get your overall point. However, I'll gladly take sharper image and I'll absolutely take the higher framerate (for some reason we only forgive Nintendo for making 30fps games). Nintendo has its brand, they know they can sell old hardware at a premium price and spend less on development costs and, while some of us feel conned, others will feel it's fine.

I’d hope so with this expensive setup.

CPU: I9 13900K P [email protected] E [email protected]
GPU: RTX 4080 Founders Edition
Motherboard: ASUS Z690-PLUS TUF Gaming
Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x
System Memory: 64GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 4000MHz
Boot Drive: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB NvME

Levii_92383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

What the hell is founders edition.

RaiderNation383d ago

Bullshit marketing term to sucker people into day one adoption.

sadraiden382d ago

The shitty overpriced OEM GPUs that you see in official marketing with only a single fan.

Pyrofire95382d ago

RaiderNation is just wrong. It's just the Nvidia produced models. It has nothing to do with day one.

382d ago
Binarycode382d ago

The founders from america built it back in 1760.

FinalFantasyFanatic382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

You generally don't want the founders edition that Nvidia sells as after market coolers/shrouds are generally better, or each AIB partner tweaks the board/design a little for better performance.

jeromeface382d ago

I love when people don't stay up on tech but think they know what they are talking about.

Mid game. Not different from the first.

jznrpg383d ago

Similar to the first for sure but has some differences. They are a little overrated but still really good games. I wish Switch had more power but I still play them because they are good especially the bosses are cool.

SullysCigar383d ago

The trouble is, I already have a backlog. Clearly, this has just been added to the queue, but but the time I'm near reaching it they'll have announced new hardware, so I might as well wait it out and get the 'complete edition' we all know is coming at launch on the next gen Nintendo.

Levii_92383d ago

Maybe you need constant character talking with dumb dialog, forced slow walking, overly long cutscenes and some boring ass story to keep you company while you play and make you feel like a big boy for playing video games ? This game is the opopsite of that it just focuses on getting straight to the point and fun. I know it isn't for everyone.. i mean who wants fun in their video games right.

Knushwood Butt382d ago

I had tons of fun last night in a 20 car Super Formula race in VR.

Just as well Nintendo doesn't have a monopoly on fun.

franwex382d ago

Similar with Dragon Quest, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Pokémon, Call of Duty, Madden, FIFA, Gran Turismo, God of War, The Last of Us, Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto.

Not that much different from one another in the series.

King_Noctis382d ago

Have you and the rest of the people who upvoted you played the game, like at all?

Flawlessmic383d ago

After playing 8 hrs straight today wishing for the game to look better, and now I see this!!

Dam you Nintendo for making us play this on your old busted ass hardware.

Just want the eventual re release on nintys new console.

Graphics aside the game has been brilliant so far even if familiar.

sadraiden382d ago

Another day, another Nintendo owner lamenting that they aren't playing on a PS5.

ThePacemaker382d ago

What a foolish comment. Who brought up PS5 topic in here? I for one completely agree with him, NS is an ancient piece of hardware. Its GPU was released way back in 2015.

RedDevils382d ago

They should release their games on PC.
