The price it shall remain
for eternity

Orchard477d ago

Also the price for the Switch 2 re-release plus whatever console they make after that :p

abstractel477d ago

$70 game, half the graphical quality (meaning fewer artists needed and to some extent programmers). Nintendo knows how to make money. Sell old hardware, and now software that doesn't require the same dev team numbers at a premium cost.

Of course I love Nintendo's first party titles so I'll gobble it up, doesn't mean I have to like it.

Personally I would love to see what Nintendo first party titles would look like if developed for curren-gen hardware...

Imalwaysright476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

abstractel

More than 300 developers and designers worked on BoTW for 5 years and there is no reason to think that this will be any different. Also while it is true that other open world games have far superior graphical fidelity, BoTW puts the vast majority of them to shame in terms of attention to detail and physics and this one will most likely put them to shame as well. Having said that there is no way in hell that I'm going to pay €70 for a game so I'm going to wait and get an used copy.

S2Killinit476d ago

I dont mind that AT ALL. Is it good? No of course not.

But, at a time when games as service are charging 1$ for skins or whatever the going prices are for these things, I would rather a developer that makes story based games to make the most out of their offerings. If a game can be remade and sold for full price based on the market demands, then so be it. Why cant they reap the fruits of their labor? I prefer this, to diminished single player games. So, more power to them.

Didn't Nintendo release an additional difficulty level for BotW as paid DLC?

just_looken477d ago

the last pokemon game was selling for $120 to get the full experience and that was not worth $70 together so i am actually amazed it was not $50 per chapter like a live service.

https://www.nintendo.com/po...

IanTH476d ago

And the collector's edition of this one is going to be $130! It comes with a steelbook, an artbook, some pins, and a small metal poster...$60 for that? I was going to look into snagging a copy if I could, when I assumed it would be a $99.99 price point like the FE: Engage CE was. $130, no thanks.

porkChop476d ago

I'm gonna be honest. Even with its faults Breath of the Wild is one of my favourite games of all time. I loved the sense of freedom, and the encouragement to organically explore. I loved that the mechanics and physics worked together so that if you could think of doing something crazy you could actually do it.

With that said, I'm still not paying that much for Tears of the Kingdom. If it was on a next gen system, maybe. But on the aging Switch? Hell no.

masterfox477d ago

lol Nintendo has no shame if that price tag is real.

Orchard477d ago

Why? They were obviously going to goto $70 when everyone else had. Once you open that can of worms there’s no going back.

bangoskank_mobile477d ago

The $70 price tag shouldn’t apply to games that look like they’re from 2 generations ago. Only to current gen games that are actually more expensive to make.

Orchard477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

Sony and MS have done it on far smaller IPs, heck Sony even charge $70 for remasters - it was obviously going to happen to Zelda and it’ll happen to Mario too.

Not saying I support it or think it’s good, but this particular can of worms was opened a long time ago.

-Foxtrot477d ago

The issue is Sony and Microsoft’s game will eventually go down in price

Nintendos prices literally freeze in place for years

blackblades477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

Sony games takes a higher budget and they are high quality games compare to Nintendo who games are good quality but lacks the higher quality and high budget that of Sony games. Also knowing Nintendo is on old tech and how there games stay the same prices for many years at least Sony lower the price of there games down the line. As for what you said Sony put the $70 on smaller IP, Spiderman mm and kena amongst others weren't $70.

Elda477d ago

Regular PS4 & XBO games are not $70 especially when they're no resolutions higher than 1080p @ 30fps.If this is true Nintendo is ripping Switch owners off for that price.

Hofstaderman477d ago

People were going on like the world ended when Sony announced the increase but now that Microsoft has done the same it’s ok. Sheesh

GameBoyColor477d ago

this is how i know gamers are groomed. Look at yall defending $70 price tags for one but not the other lol. it should've never increased to $70 in the first place!

DarXyde477d ago

You must be too young to remember N64 games, which were $70 new in the 90s.

You can, in fact, go back after opening that can of worms.

Orchard477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

@blackblades “As for what you said Sony put the $70 on smaller IP, Spiderman mm and kena amongst others weren't $70.”

So Horizon, Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank, God of War aren’t big IPs?

SMMM was pre the move to $70, we already know Spider-Man 2 is $70.

Kena (which actually IS a small IP) isn’t developed or published by Sony so that’s irrelevant.

@Elda We pay for good games, not resolutions.

The second Sony tried $70 games en masse and lots of folk not only accepted it, but defended it, it was obvious where this was headed - and here we are.

Army_of_Darkness477d ago

I remember in the 90's Sega genesis games were $79 Canadian! Of course I caved because there was no way I'd miss out on MK2, street fighter 2 ce and streets of rage 3!
But now. Hellz no! Older now and lots of bills to pay so I play the waiting game. Sales baby!

Crows90476d ago

Yea. Sony definitely has a lot of blame for the price increase. They couldve stayed put with it to combat the foolery.

shinoff2183476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

Orchy I your referring to the last of us. It was actually a remake. It's way beyond a simple remaster with resolution upgrade and all.

Your always trying to throw shade at Sony. I feel if you do really have a ps5 you bought it out of spite.

Gameboycolor

Price hikes have been due for a long time. Everything in this world has increased. Why shouldn't games. Just do like I've been doing for years. Wait for a price drop

LOL!! If true...no shame.

outsider1624477d ago

And who cares anyway..everyone gives nintendo a pass. Whether it's games, console or price. They like doing their own thing. Leave it at that.

frostypants476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

Why do people think games would/should be immune to inflation? It affects everything. Blame global economic policies. $70 *is* $60 in 2018 dollars. It also costs them more to develop it. Put another way: your fiat money is just worth less now.

Asplundh476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

Have you been living under a rock? It sucks but gamers have shown that they're willing pay the price, it was expected that Nintendo would follow.

SegaSaturn669477d ago

Hopefully Yuzu runs it at ~30fps on the steamdeck.

Profchaos477d ago

This will be where we see their new deal with denuvo DRM come in

SegaSaturn669477d ago

Oh yeah, totally forgot about that.

XxINFERNUSxX477d ago

I don't think they will add Denuvo because everyday there is a post from Fitgirl the repacker on her page "More Switch/PS3 Games" 😁

RedDevils477d ago

denuvo make no different when it been emulate on emulator.

EvertonFC477d ago

Some gamers live in bubbles if they didn't think that was gonna happen.

cthulhucultist476d ago

I have to agree with you on this one. It was inevitable.

Its Nintendo we are talking after all- they keep the prices of their first party games the same throughout their lifespan and they charge you again for a remaster

(not even a remake-i.e Zelda skyward Sword, Pokken Tournament, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore to name but a few)

Elda477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

If this is true that Nintendo is charging $70 to play a game on old hardware with no resolutions higher than 1080p is ridiculous. I know Switch & Zelda fans are going to still fork over that $70.

Profchaos477d ago

Yeah but the thing is to Nintendo it's not old hardware technically as it's their current system.

They do this all the time to release a game at the current RRP even if it's a re release look at tropical freeze which came out as a re release an extra 10 dollars above to old Wii U RRP

Res hardware performance these mean nothing to Nintendo this is the same company that cbf making a successor to the Gameboy for like a decade to turn around and simply slap a colour screen on the same spec system and call it a day

--Onilink--477d ago

Why are people acting like better graphics are what dictate whether a game has the kind of development that is worth $70 or not?
If it takes 5+ years to make and the dev team is a similar size to games from Sony or Nintendo, why would the budget be any lower?
Not that I want any game to be $70, but making a game prettier is not necessarily what drives development costs lol

Profchaos477d ago

Exactly right those people need to be paid and they need to be paid a modern wage

Binarycode476d ago

Tons of Reasons.

Mo-cap
Actors
Sending out teams to get high rez imagery.
Takes huge Teams.

From looking at Many Nintendo games they all look like they run on the same engine. Cartoon graphics.

Some games look great like that. But Switch is very underpowered.

Neonridr476d ago

some truly amazing games used simplistic graphics. but those don't count apparently.

CBaoth476d ago

I'm with ya homie. Didn't care Sony had to raise them. Don't care now. Young padawans need to learn the concept of inflation. Doesn't matter if the system is underpowered, professionals in the hundreds still worked on the game. I don't work for free why should they? Better yet imagine Nintendo trying to lowball new hires because they're not working with modern assets and power! "You're only getting 60 instead of 80 because you're coding for the Switch".

I quit buying a lot of day1s cause I never got around to playing them new, like a month or two down the road when they $20 cheaper lol. Patience is a virtue

Pyrofire95476d ago

I just want it to not be blurry and run at a low fps, game looks good otherwise cause N knows what art design is.
