Geoff Keighley: "Xbox's Quick Resume is a Game Changer!

On Twitter:

"Quick Resume is a game changer! Load Times + Quick Resume makes moving between games almost like Alt-TABing."

"Overall: Massive “quality of life” improvements to Xbox experience, everything (including UI) is super quick and responsive. System is quiet, super easy to setup."

Not sure what is the fuzz about this quick resume, we already have this in the current gen, maybe not as fast but we already have it and I don't think is such the big deal, it worked pretty good on the Vita as well, the real game changer is the jump from one generation to another and that is the demonstration of actual next gen games, and for me this is the real reason to own/buy a next gen console, it would be very disappointed if it wasn't this way but luckily there is always a gaming company that never disappoints their customers. ;)

Army_of_Darkness1332d ago

Before it was "next gen starts when this new console comes out!".... Now it's more like, next gen starts when an actual next gen exclusive game releases!

TheScotsman1332d ago

Looks slow and cumbersome, it's hardly fast, yeah faster but not fast, maybe they getting this out there before sony shows there own ssd technology. Which is the game changer and M$ knows this

Neonridr1332d ago

@TheScotsman - as a PC player, it's nice but not a game changer. I can appreciate less load times, but please stop.

sampsonon1332d ago

I think he means it's always about the bells and whistles with MS. Not the games, or we would be talking about the launch games. I think it's a cool feature for sure. Doesn't mean i don't understand this guys post.

LordoftheCritics1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

Games with sparse saving and checkpoints see the most benefits of this. I won't have to force myself to play till I reach a save point for all those games that dont have manual saving everywhere.

This will change our gaming habits in a good way.

chiefJohn1171332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

Its not the same and Its a big deal, loading rdr2 after a few games of halo mp with some friends is completely Eradicated. Forget about ssds making load times quicker, resume removes loading completely

Neonridr1332d ago

you sound like such a shill.

Toncsipapa1332d ago

And here we come.. A ps fanbooooy

CWheatley1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

The only thing I can think of that makes this feature better is that you can have like 5 or 6 games in the save state at once...which is neat, but realistically how many people have that many games running - let alone playing - at once?

Edit: Also remembered, at least from experience on ps4, you couldn't have numerous games in a paused state at once - not even 2 games at once. So, this is kind of nice when switching between two games.

GOULDYBOBS1331d ago

Agree about the quick resume as I dont have the attention span of a goldfish.
But as for "next gen", please explain which port, multigen or remake you mean. Other than ratchet and wank

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1331d ago

We have NOTHING EVEN CLOSE TO THIS on current gen please stop the bs.

I'm a huge Xbox fan but even I don't get the hype over this. It's a nice feature, but I mean it's not that big of a deal..... I'm not typically flipping between 5-6 games. I guess if even after days have gone by it keeps your game right where it was that's kinda neat.

killbillvolume121332d ago

You don't see what the hype is? The "Quick Resume" feature means players can reboot the console without saving and then almost instantly start the game up again from where they left off. It keeps your post. You don't have to save. You can turn off the console and turn it back on the next day and it will have your games saved in those exact locations.

shabz6661332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

@tiqila

Wait that’s not the same though.

Imagine if you’re on your Switch playing Zelda and then you want to play divinity, you can switch to divinity and play and then switch back to Zelda exactly the same place where you left of in about 10 seconds. And this is for about 6 games at the same time.

What you are talking about is suspend state. Putting the system on sleep with the game app running in back ground. Quick resume is multiple game apps switching between each other.

Also you can’t do suspend state after you turn off the system , you can only do it in stand by mode for switch or rest mode with ps4 or turn off with xbone. This is a current gen feature that was brought in with ps4 and xbone. Not the same as quick resume.

UnSelf1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

“I can switch between six games anytime I want!”

Saitama: ok

Ytf would I wanna switch between multiple games? What kinda soda y’all be drinking?

Lostbytes1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

And? Why the hype? Try this with ANY Live service game, FAIL. Every live service game will log you out and put you back to the login screen after a set time. (Destiny2, Warfame, FO76, Etc) This really only benefits people playing managed checkpoint based games. I have never used the current quick resume, and never will use the new version. You will not even have the feature available. unless you have your console set to instant on.

Sitdown1332d ago

@Tiqila
If you want to switch Switch games, you have to close out the software. If not, you get a message from Nintendo.

DarXyde1332d ago

I would use it to boot up Dark Souls 1-3 and cycle between them every time I die and see which one I finish first.

shabz6661332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

Lol nice I like this plan but I would assume you would disconnect from any online game.

King_Noctis1332d ago

It is something new and useful. If you don’t see it as a big deal, would you rather everything stay the same as it is on the PS4/Xbox One?

NeoGamer2321331d ago

I don't see this feature alone as a game changer. To me, as we go forward we are going to see that both Sony and Microsoft have great games. So then they will have to start differentiating their offerings. Microsoft is jumping on that with GamePass, but they also spent the later half of the last generation and early this coming generation in making console features to improve the overall gaming experience.

Quick resume is one, pre-downloading games you physically buy is another, the store revamp is another. etc. etc.

Bathyj1332d ago

Well only in the sense you are literally changing games.

LucasRuinedChildhood1332d ago

Have we ever gotten a confirmation that the PS5 also has this feature? I just remember a story about about a similar patent.

purple1011332d ago

Not only does it have it... There is a feeling we will be able to jump in your mates game like an it technician controlled the mouse..to help them if there stuck! Now that's quick resume!

boing11332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

PS5 has it too. I think it's one of those new standard features any following console should have. Long time overdue.

Saigon1332d ago

IDK, For me, I play one game at a time on each console and PC. I thought this feature was nice but I don't think I would ever use it as much regardless the company that implements it. I do use the quick resume at its current state. Maybe I can use the feature if a friend invites me to a MP game or if my kids want to play...IDK we will see.

DaMist1332d ago

I'm actually excited for this and hope both consoles, supported. i'm constantly swapping between game genres for example (ghost of tsushima and persona5G) or between (forza horizon 4 and darksiders 3) and not having to load each game again should be neat

Saigon1331d ago

@DaMist

I agree with that if that is how you play. I on the other hand have changed that play style a long time ago once RL took over. But like I said earlier; I have to wait and see; Still cool feature...

It's the why we close servers after 2 years, why we re-use the same assets every year, and why we bundle our game with enjoyable microtransactions.

neutralgamer19922d ago

Running digital casinos in every game

Rebel_Scum2d ago

Re-using assets is not a bad thing tbh. Development is all about re-using code, assets and components.

neutralgamer19922d ago

Can you please focus on delivering enough quality content to justify the $70 asking price? While I appreciate the idea of over-delivering, it's essential to ensure that the base content itself is worth it. I have concerns that GTA6 might have less single-player content because most of the focus seems to be shifting towards online play and microtransactions

Inverno2d ago

The sleaze oozes out of these gaming CEOs faces. It's honestly disturbing how distorted people look when you've realized how money obsessed they really are. He gives off "in one ear and straight out the other" vibes.

jambola2d ago

I really don't get it
like
do they think anyone believes what they say?
is it that being in charge surrounds you by so many yesmen that they get deluded into thinking everyone is like that?

JackBNimble2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Well if you look at the last 10 years you will notice there wasn't as single paid dlc. Every update was free whether you want to complain about sharkcards or not.

They're going to make billions on this game especially if they keep the same formula as last in regards to updates.

Good-Smurf2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Selling Shark cards and removing content are not exactly "good news for consumers" lol.
The last time they released any DLC worth playing was 15 years ago.
GTA V is so broken and unbalanced that people would rather do stupid cringey stunts with than do heists.

JackBNimble2d ago

I'm sure the player base would disagree, and gta5 is still being supported, much longer then most games, after all I bought gta5 day 1 on ps3....
