Well well, I guess its time for someone to pour a rather large steaming mug of a certain drink...

darthv721350d ago

This is really great to hear. Not that 30fps is bad... I've played through the entire series that way, but 60fps is spoiling me with certain games offering performance modes.

porkChop1350d ago

Wasn't most of the series 60fps though? I remember they did a poll about 30fps vs 60fps a few years ago, asking if people wanted them to push for better visuals at 30fps.

Eonjay1350d ago (Edited 1350d ago )

Insomniac is doing the damn thing. Sony did amazing with that studio purchase. And it doesn't need to be native 4K. Especially with tools like Nvidia's DLSS giving better than native results. Its getting to the point where I don't even want native if you can get better results while saving power. Its almost seems lazy not to use it.

Also, Digital Foundry has stuck out so much its kinda embarrassing. With the CPU in the new consoles, any title can be 60 FPS if the dev provides the option. Keep up the good work Insomniac and gamers keep demanding visual/performance options in your console titles!

morganfell1350d ago

@Eonjay,

For the most part, a few people question trivial matters such as resolution but in fact have no idea what it is when they see it. Or else they believe it is native 4k until someone tells them. Of course that is when they put the game down and refuse to play it or else their ability to enjoy it is irreparably damaged. Such ridiculous behavior. There are far more important issues to address for next gen yet resolution tunnel vision has an apparently good grasp of the throats of several gamers.

And you are spot on regarding digital foundry. Oh how the mighty have fallen...

Dont waste your time with DF, those guys suck, blaming the "sun/light" for halo infinite shit graphics, lmao.

"There is a trade-off. At 30fps, you’ll be getting the full 4K resolution, making the game look super sharp on a 4K TV. If you want to play at 60fps, the resolution will drop."

I'll go for 60fps at a lower resolution instead of 4K/30fps every day of the week.

Its turning into a daily occurrence these last couple weeks🤣 not enough mugs!!

morganfell1350d ago

Its either outright baseless screaming or the stealth trolls that fool no one. Particularly by those that have no intention of playing it. Time to back the truck up to the site and break out a firehouse so they can drink their fill.

IRetrouk1350d ago

Yeah, I've seen a good few made up stories now, frustrating but also entertaining and funny.
Back er on up, plenty need quenched 🤣

morganfell1350d ago

Mostly humorous to me as I find the frustration over such matters laughable. They could be genuinely enjoying this reveal and all the possibilities it entails.

IRetrouk1350d ago (Edited 1350d ago )

Truth man, when i say frustrating, I only mean in the sense of seeing multiple people(some with thousands of followers) repeating the lies like truth and having others believe their shit, even when the correct info is out.. i do however laugh every single time their bullshit gets called out and proven wrong, entertaining to say the least.

rainslacker1349d ago (Edited 1349d ago )

They're getting shot down so quick though that they cant make themselves look more foolish.

It is pretty telling when they dont come in and celebrate that their apparent concern has been alleviated. Youd think they'd be one of the first to say how awesome it was, since they are the only ones that care in the first place

You need to stop with your bogus claims and comments ps5 can't do 60FPS, it can't do 120FPS on Dirt 5

Only the power of XSX can achieve such things. Did you not see those amazing graphics, textures in halo

For those of you not understanding

Sony's knocking it out of the park! They really aren't playing this time.

mrsolidsteel201350d ago

@morganfell

Well digital foundry had to throw out their article saying how the new R&C will not be able to run at 60fps because of some BS that they have no idea about. ;)

morganfell1350d ago

Serves them right. They can count pixels but people, if they listen objectively, would be surprised how little insight they exercise or the sense of predictive logic they lack, and that is across the board.

The market is wide open for another group of intelligent and analytical gamers (to hell with these people that only see our hobby as a money making scheme) to arrive on the scene and supplant these charlatans.

AKS1350d ago

Where did you read it's 1440p/ 60 fps? The previous Ratchet game almost looked like it was native 4K (fooled Digital Foundry until they pixel counted) with temporal injection. They'd probably use TI unless something more advanced has replaced it rather than 1440p.

darthv721350d ago

The game is 4k 30, what do you expect the 60 mode will run in? 1440 is a likely choice and then temporal reconstruction (checkerboarding) will upscale it to 4k. It could be 1800p but whatever it is... it's not 4k 60 and I'm okay with that. I will take performance over res any day.

AKS1350d ago

I guess if you consider both native 1440p and temporal injection to both fall under the label of "1440p" that sort of makes sense to me. TI typically looks much better than native 1440p on the same hardware with the exception of Naughty Dog games. Digital Foundry initially thought Pro Ratchet was native 2160p, and I'll confess I did as well until I looked it up online and learned about this technique that was at the time (4 years ago) new to me.

Imortus_san1350d ago

The game as frame drops at 4kt, douth 1440 will be locked 60fps.

Marquinho1350d ago

@darthv72

That or 4K upscaled.

Honestly, native 4k is overrated. Hope PS5 is able to pull off DLSS-like upsampling to compensate graphical power.

pitythefool1350d ago

People that think 4K @60fps with ray tracing is going to be the new standard are in for a rude awakening.

Sorry, ain’t happening.

neutralgamer19921350d ago

On $500 systems let's be real here many games will do 4k/60FPS but not all and a $500 PC can't do 4k at 30FPS forget 60

DnBSkillZ1350d ago

I didin't think that. The gtx 2080ti costs 2x more then these new consoles alone never mind a good cpu whole motherboard and a good ssd costs like 4x the new consoles to run 60fps/4k with full ray tracing if there will be a mid gen upgrade then yes we might be looking at all that but atm it ain't happening

crazyCoconuts1350d ago

On a positive note, for the people that are silly enough to say general things like box A can't do 4k 60 but box B can, they're probably not gonna be able to tell the difference anyway. Might as well tell them all the games are 4k 120 so they can settle down and just enjoy the game

1350d ago
RazzerRedux1350d ago (Edited 1350d ago )

@Shaggy2304

"Devs and websites have already estimated the Series X GPU is the equivalent of a 2080 Super, and that GPU alone is more than $500."

That "estimation" is based on teraflops alone which is not accurate. The CUs of different architectures are not the same and CU counts are what used teraflops calculations. And so teraflops are only applicable within the same architecture line.

The only accurate way to compare GPUs is with benchmarks across several games.

Yeah native 4k as a buzzword isn't the big selling card you think it is. If a game looks great and plays great, well that's about all I need.

1350d ago
Holeran1350d ago

I'm sure Sony will be using their own version of DLSS soon and it will put this kind of thing to bed.

RaidenBlack1350d ago

Man .... I just made an assumption as per the article. The author even went as low as 1080p.
Look at them downvotes.
Easy guys ... your beloved game will run 60fps @ 4K. 😄

darthv721350d ago

I thought it was a pretty good guess and yes 1080p would be the lowest it could go but if they turn off raytracing then perhaps it could do 60fps @ 4k. Otherwise I can see 1440p with RT @ 60fps would be nothing to be ashamed of. Not with all that stuff going on and all the fast loading and effects. It's going to be great no matter what.

Eonjay1350d ago

What everyone should want is 1080p or 1440p with DLSS 2.0 like upscaling. This produces better than 4K results at 1/4 or 1/2 the required power.

DarXyde1349d ago

There's no confirmation of that to my knowledge, but honestly, a 60fps/2K mode would be very welcome from me. I generally I happen to think 2K looks fantastic and I would be content with many games shooting for that and focusing on keeping a high frame rate over 4K/30fps. Of course, that's just me, so I would love just having the option.

CaptainHenry9161349d ago (Edited 1349d ago )

It definitely looks better than the Halo infinite demo 😁

Kaze881349d ago

So first the problem was that PS5 cant run anything at 60fps (even though ps4 runs vr games 120fps), then when they give the option to run 60fps, then the problem is that it is not native 4k and XSX could run it native 4k....even though it cannot run their own timed or console exclusive Medium (slow paced dual world horror game) at 4k 60fps, its 4k 30fps. hmmmm.

I have 1,5k worth PC and 4K monitor, I run almost all games 1440p with DLSS or supersampling etc. methods to upscale to higher resolutions while having games on medium-high and RTX OFF and games run from 60-120fps. 500€ consoles are not miracle boxes. wake up.

RazzerRedux1350d ago (Edited 1350d ago )

Good news. Glad to see Sony is giving options for performance vs visuals. As it should be.

As Digital Foundry said, native resolutions are becoming increasingly unimportant with the techniques developers have at their disposal to construct images indistinguishable from their native counterparts.

sprinterboy1350d ago

I think most games nxt gen will have the option tbh, covers all bases for gamers.
It'll stop a whole gen of gamers moaning every 5mins about no 60fps everytime a games released

RpgSama1350d ago

Honestly, I've never really cared about resolution, If a game looks amazing, it looks amazing, for example I have no idea at what resolution God Of War played, all I know is that it looks amazing, people who pixel count by looking at DF videos because they cannot actually see the difference and then brag about something they cannot even notice, that's plain stupid.

1350d ago
AKS1350d ago

Indeed. The previous Ratchet game was actually the first game I experienced with any of the efficiency techniques when it got a Pro patch and used temporal injection, and that was more than enough to sell me on the idea. I have an RTX 2080 Super as well and use plenty of so called "fake 4K" every chance I get.

1349d ago
Father__Merrin1350d ago

I've seen a demo in my local curry's of dlss on an Nvidia card the upscale is tremendously done. I don't think there's an AMD card equicilant yet but there might be this type of scaling on new consoles

darthv721350d ago

Having a performance mode choice has spoiled me on both the pro and x. So nice to see they are continuing that trend into next gen.

AKS1350d ago

There was a ceiling for some games on Pro due to the CPU bottleneck. A legit 60 fps performance mode is much more feasible on PS5 than Pro. Many didn't like that I took Bungie's side when they said they couldn't do 60 fps in Destiny 2 with the CPUs in the current generation consoles, but it was true at least for most PvE content. The Ryzen chips in the PS5 and XSX are a totally different animal, though. I'm hoping a performance mode becomes the norm next generation.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 1349d ago
I_am_Batman1350d ago (Edited 1350d ago )

Awesome. I'll take that performance mode. All those particle effects will look so much better in 60fps. Hopefully they'll release some 60fps footage before the launch.

jznrpg1350d ago

You may lose some particle effects not resolution , but maybe not? I’ll check to see which mode looks better to me and that includes how smooth it seems . If it’s noticeably smoother on performance mode but graphics are close I’ll choose that . If it seems just as smooth on graphics mode but looks better I’ll choose that . I guess it will depend on each game as I bet this will be an option for most of not all first party

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Review – More Characters, Less Fun

Gary Green said: Ratchet & Clank is a curious franchise as you never know what will happen next. Back in the PS2 era, we had regular releases featuring full sequels every year or two. It was a schedule which continued into the PS3 era with equally regular releases yet these were often downgraded to budget-priced shorter games or spin-offs. You could tell those creators over at Insomniac were running out of ideas.

A 6? Strong disagree on this one. Huge fan of the franchise and really enjoyed this game. But to each their own. Hope there is another one in the works (I know Insomniac is pretty busy haha).

I freaking loved it. It was gorgeous, and downright fun at all times.

AMD FSR 3.1 Announced at GDC 2024, FSR 3 Available and Upcoming in 40 Games

Last September, we unleashed AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3)1 on the gaming world, delivering massive FPS improvements in supported games.

community.amd.com
Eonjay48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

So to put 2 and 2 together... FSR 3.1 is releasing later this year and the launch game to support it is Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart. In Sony's DevNet documentation it shows Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart as the example for PSSR. PS5 Pro also launches later this year... but there is something else coming too: AMD RDNA 4 Cards (The very same technology thats in the Pro). So, PSSR is either FSR 3.1 or its a direct collaboration with AMD for that builds on FSR 3.1. Somehow they are related. I think PSSR is FSR 3.1 with the bonus of AI... now lets see if RDNA 4 cards also include an AI block.

More details:
FSR 3.1 fixes Frame Generation
If you have a 30 series RTX card you can now use DLSS3 with FSR Frame Generation (No 40 Series required!)
Its Available on all Cards (we assume it will come to console)
Fixes Temporal stability

MrDead47d ago

I've been using a mod that allows dlss frame gen on my 3080 it works on all rtx series. It'll be good not to rely on mods for the future.

darksky47d ago

The mods avaiable are actually using FSR3 frame gen but with DLSS or FSR2 upscaling.

Babadook747d ago (Edited 47d ago )

I think that the leaks about the 5 Pro would debunk the notion that the two (FSR 3.1 and PSSR) are the same technology. PSSR is a Sony technology.

MrDead48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

I wonder how much they fixed the ghosting in dark areas as Nvidia are leaving them in the dust with image quality. Still good that they are improving in big leaps, I'll have to see when the RTX5000 series is released who I go with... at the moment the RTX5000's are sounding like monsters.

just_looken47d ago

Did you see the dell leaks were they are trying to cool cards using over 1k watts of power.

We are going to need 220 lines for next gen pcs lol

MrDead47d ago

That's crazy! Sounds like heating my house won't be a problem next winter.

porkChop47d ago

As much as I hate supporting Nvidia, AMD just doesn't even try to compete. Their whole business model is to beat Nvidia purely on price. But I'd rather pay for better performance and better features. AMD also doesn't even try to innovate. They just follow Nvidia's lead and make their own version of whatever Nvidia is doing. But they're always 1 or 2 generations behind when it comes to those software/driver innovations, so Nvidia is always miles ahead in quality and performance.

MrDead47d ago

I do a lot of work on photoshop so an Intel Nvidia set up has been the got to because of performance edge, more expensive but far more stable too. Intel also have the edge over AMD processors with better load distribution on the cores, less spikes and jitters. When you're working large format you don't want lag or spikes when you're editing or drawing.

I do think AMD has improved massively though and whist I don't think they threaten Nvidia on the tech side they do make very well priced cards and processors for the power. I'm probably going with a 5080 or 5090 but AMD will get a little side look from me, which is a first in a long time... but like you said they are a generation or two behind at the moment.

Goosejuice46d ago

While I can't argue for amd gpu, they aren't bad but they aren't great either. The cpu for amd have great. I would argue the 7800x3d as one of the best cpu for gaming right now. Idk about editing so I take ur word for that but gaming amd cpu is a great option these days.

porkChop46d ago

@Goosejuice

I have a 7800X3D. It certainly is great for gaming. Though for video editing, rendering, etc, I think Intel have the advantage from what I remember. I just mean from a GPU standpoint I can't support them.

The 5 best games on PlayStation Plus Premium that make subscribing worth it

The PS5 is an incredible console, and if you're lucky enough to have one, or have just received one for Christmas then you'll already know there is a host of great games out there.

What you may not be aware of is that if you subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, you'll actually get access to a huge catalogue of titles to play at any time. Many of which you can stream without having to do any downloads. If you have a PlayStation Portal you could even play these titles from your bed.

Abnor_Mal123d ago

Damn the only one I’ve played so far is Miles Morales, although I do own Control and Rift Apart.

ChasterMies123d ago

Odd list. Where is Horizon Forbidden West? Ghost of Tsushima? Demon’s Souls? Returnal? And fun indie games like Superliminal? Where’s “A Plage Tale Requiem” and “Evil West”, the current PS+ Essential offerings?

Exvalos111d ago

Evil west is underrated I'm having a really good time playing it.

juniorpop123d ago

Like seriously? Those are games Extra Tier can get - so not worth upgrading to Premium
