Hey, Listen: NPCs Should Stop Yellin' at Us

So many NPCs are designed to nag at people. There has to be a better way to help guide and teach players without being as annoying as Navi or Cortana.

I have noticed that NPC's have become more annoying in recent years. Wolfensteain: Youngblood's characters never shut up, they are enough reason to avoid the game.

FF7 Remake looks like it has this problem too. The characters never seem to shut up when you are fighting. I hate this kind of thing, it's really off putting.

ShinjukuSon1677d ago (Edited 1677d ago )

I like it. 7R looks really promising. The banter between Cloud and Barett, Jesse's crush on Cloud. They're all good character moments and add character growth naturally. But people have to complain about everything.

meganick1677d ago

The funny thing is that this applies to real life too, and not just video games.

porkChop1677d ago

I don't mind if the characters say something once a minute or two to remind me what I'm doing. But in some games it seems like every five to ten seconds they're yelling at me, and it's just annoying and off-putting.

sprinterboy1677d ago

It's the npc who is annoying when there telling you to "hurry up" or say "over here" when your going through your load out or collecting ammo and searching for stuff of interest etc.
I'm always like I know where I'm fucking going and I'll come when I'm finished collecting all the loot and shit I've got to collect lol.

rainslacker1676d ago (Edited 1676d ago )

I really hate the ones that keep pestering you to advance the story. RDR2 was terrible about this. After big fights, you want to explore around to try and see what kinds of things you can get, because they won't be available after advancing, but you have this guy off to the side who just keeps telling you to come over here, or go do something every 30 seconds. It's like they think I don't know what to do next, despite the fact they've been telling me what to do next for the past 5 minutes.

porkChop1675d ago

Yeah in some games it gets super annoying. COD has been really bad in that regard.

MasterCornholio1677d ago

HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!! HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!! HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!! HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!! HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!! HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!! HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!!

I know what the author means. Sometimes the characters can be so annoying.

gangsta_red1677d ago

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64143d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga143d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic142d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits143d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake143d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

I used a guide to beat part of it but some of the rest myself, still enjoyed it regardless. Too bad they didn't stick with this kind of gameplay for the rest of the series as I would prefer it over what they're doing now.

TheBrainZ175d ago

A definitive moment in video game history. Played it countless times, and Zelda was the best reason to own an N64.

FinalFantasyFanatic175d ago

I played through OoT so many times on the 64, then I bought it on the 3DS before the Eshop shut down. I wish we could have a Zelda collection like we did for Mario, I still can't believe that never happened.
