Cuphead announced for Switch

During today’s Nindies Showcase, it was announced that Cuphead is coming to Switch. A release is planned for April 18. Here’s an overview, along with a trailer: Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles.

@DethWish: I do not have a PC. I don’t care to deal with the ever growing amount of virus programs out there claiming to work that ultimately don’t work for everything. I don’t care to shovel money at a PC just to shovel more at it, potentially more than I spent on a machine for one component.

I don’t care to hear that PC has this “huge library” only to find out there’s ALWAYS a chance on PC a product may not work on my machine. I don’t care to have the potential to play “All games 4K/120” only to find out that most machines don’t even touch that. I don’t care to deal with the part of the “modding community” that’s using modding abilities to ruin someone else’s good time for the simple sake of trolling or boosting.

Plus in this day and age a dedicated PC really isn’t needed. There are many products that do what dedicated PCs do.

Xbox One indie games rarely get a physical edition because Microsoft requires a higher print run than any other console maker, so many skip it in favor of Switch, PS4, and (until recently) PS Vita.

Games like this are known to sell really well on the Switch as indicative of a lot of the indie games selling best there. Seems only natural that Studio MDHR is going to make a good amount of money on the Switch version.

So Nintendo is confirming Microsoft is to thank for the port confirming Nintendo even knows Microsoft is working on the project. Microsoft is confirming they are helping Studio MDHR. Studio MDHR is confirming they are working with Microsoft. The end goal is Xbox Live integration.

Sony’s not going to fund a port based solely on that. Sony likely won’t get the product because of that too then even if they do the Sony product would be inferior to the other products upon launch because every other product would sport more versus the PS4 product.

Or Sony could ok the integration and also gain integration for Minecraft as well. Seems smarter, more beneficial, less costly, less of a gamble...

I just want to point out that I actually think this is a good deal. Studio MDHR should see a benefit as their game will now be coming to a new platform exposing that game to a new audience. Plus they have not one but two console manufacturers working with them on a common goal.

Further Microsoft no matter how you look at it has deeper pockets than Studio MDHR so them assisting in porting and taking on some of the costs has to be helpful. Nintendo also benefits because they are helping as well but they also don’t have to shell out to get the game or really put much funding into it on their end. It should also mean a pretty solid product for Switch.

I’m actually liking this trend. This way developers and console manufacturers both benefit. Plus in the end the developer should see a nice return with less financial liability they may not have.

But I think the only way Sony will see this product is if they play ball too.

SOE was never part of the PlayStation division, and was actually there to create games for PC. They were around before PS became a thing. It's not really the same situation at all.

Everyone knows what the term console exclusive means. Most of the discourse is centered around if console exclusive is enough to consider it exclusive, or if exclusive can only be used if it's without some sort of modifier.

I guess technically, it'd now be considered a timed console exclusive. In this case, it's not really something terrible, because of the size of the studio, and how it came to the Xbox in the first place.

For all the time it was discussed, what people said, was accurate, so no real wrongs being said. Whether one wants to accept console exclusives as relevant to saying if a console has exclusives or not is about the only thing that caused that whole debate to fester on.

Microsoft hasn't had any good games meanwhile Nintendo and Sony are putting out hit after hit with great software sales and reviews when is the last time Xbox had a game that got 10s?? Acquiring studios doesn't mean anything they acquired RARE and they haven't had a huge hit on Xbox like they did on Nintendo consoles that's a fact.

I currently have an original Xbox1 but it hasn't been hooked up to my TV for years. I really want to play Cuphead but it was too much hassle to unplug one of my other games machines to play the one game I was interested in on Xbox1.

I only really play Switch in docked mode so, does anyone have an insight into how the Switch version (in docked mode) will stack up against the XB1 version in respect of resolution etc? Trying to work out whether I should just make the effort to squeeze my XB1 into my TV cabinet to play Cuphead or whether I should play the Switch version as that machine is already in place.
