Ushiro, Level-5’s spirit horror RPG first announced for PSP in 2008, but never officially cancelled, is now a Switch title, Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino confirmed in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu.
The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has a 40-page feature on Level-5, including a long interview with president and CEO Akihiro Hino, in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary.
In the interview, Hino discusses his memories of when the company was first established, its secrets to producing major hits, and the company’s vision for the future. There is also a special dialogue about the goals of the new company Level-5 Comcept, which is a collaboration between Hino and Keiji Inafune.
I need to see more gameplay, but maybe this will finally give me a second reason to buy a Switch (the first being Fire Emblem). I had also given up on Level 5 as an action-only developer, so this is surprising.
"Long before Yo-kai Watch, Level-5 had plans for a turn-based horror RPG for PSP, called Ushiro, which was announced in 2008. There hasn’t been much said about it since its cancelation, but it looks like it’ll be back in light novel form.
According to the report, the light novel version is called Ushiro: The Displeased Death God, which will be based off the canceled PSP title, and published by Kadokawa and Fields. Riu Goto will be the author while toi8 will be in charge of its illustrations."
Portable Video Gamer Writes:
"For fans of RPGs and companies like Level 5 and Square Enix, the PSP handheld is the place to be in 2009. In addition, a few high-profile western games may surprise us. We know that Studio Liverpool is working on a super-secret PSP port of Little Big Planet (OK, maybe it's not so secret after all). Sony Bend will also be releasing a handheld spinoff or the Resistance FPS series called Retribution in the spring. And as usual, RPG fans will have a lot to look forward to as brand new games and ports of old classics head to Sony's handheld. Read on for a list of upcoming PSP games that we are most thrilled about."
I really think that 2009 will get better for the PSP, especially if you are into Japanese style games. I am personally really looking forward to checking out Ushiro and Phantasy Star Portable.
Man, the PSP got to be the worst system released in this decade. What an awful, awful line-up of games.
PSP is doomed. The last game I bought for it was Patapon & that was because it was only $20. I use it mainly as an MP3 player (piss off ipod/zune!) & for Internet for when I want to check something online real quick.
I am finally feeding my rpg hunger with Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Final Fantasy: Crisis Core... Also loving God of War: CoO... Next year I am looking forward to Dissidia if it comes out in eu...
