Out of all the video game genres, the first person shooter or FPS may be the most ubiquitous one. Shooting at random mooks with instruments of destruction that seem as if extensions of your own person tends to be hella immersive.
A look back at 4A Games' admirably consistent post-apocalyptic shooter franchise.
The best shooter campaign since Half-Life 2 still hasn't been topped eight years later.
I agree with this. The time travel mechanics. The sense of scale. The relationship with your mech. The bosses all had personalities. It's a wonderful game.
Yeah it was good, but it only did the time travel bit in one level. Dishonered 2 did the same thing. Now how about a game where it's implemented throughout the gameplay? Singularity says Hello (and deserves so much more recognition).
BLG writes, "Some of the most popular games have had a rough start, with some of them being downright unplayable.
Despite that, developers have managed to turn it around for them and make their game worth playing. Here are some games that had a rough start but were pretty great."
Sea of Thieves... I'm not disagreeing that the game has improved in terms of content. But I feel that the most significant change between now and its release is actually the public perception. Nowadays, most people are aware that the game is a multiplayer PvP-focused experience first and foremost, and not "Black Flag made by Rare". Consequently, people dismissing the whole experience because the single-player aspect is lacking or the story is plain are much less common.
Days gone! By the end of the game I couldn't drop it down! I went around so many hours killing zombies! It was addictive by the end.
Some of my favorite FPS campaigns by generation are:
-8th Gen
1. Doom (2016)
2. Titanfall 2
3. Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
4. Halo 5: Guardians (Bad story, good levels)
5. Wolfenstein: The New Order
-7th Gen
1. Far Cry 3
2. Bioshock Infinite
3. Halo: Reach
4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
5. Half-Life 2: Episodes 1 & 2.
-6th
1. Half-Life 2
2. Halo: Combat Evolved
3. Halo 2
4. Timesplitters Future Perfect
5. Star Wars:Republic Commando
- Bioshock 1 and Infinite
- TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect
- Wolfenstein: The New Order and Old Blood
- Medal of Honor (PS1), Underground, and Frontline
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 and 2
- 007 GoldenEye, Agent Under Fire, and Nightfire
- Perfect Dark
- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Far Cry 3 and 4
- Borderlands 2
The title should be changed to “Best FPS games since 2007”. You can’t say ALL TIME and not have any of the great FPS campaigns that started the genre.
They are all great games and I'm not disagreeing or maybe its my nostalgia but all these games are after the millennium....
Exhumed on Sega Saturn,Quake 2 on PC, Goldeneye on N64 must be mentioned imo.
