Konami takes down the Unreal Engine 4-powered fan remake of Silent Hills P.T.

It might be Konami's IP and they did have the right to take it down but it's not like they are doing anything with the IP and if anything, could have helped generate interest in reviving it. They don't learn. Make the remake, make sure it's 100% complete all bugs are taken care of. Then upload your work to all the torrent sites you can think of, in this way Konami or any other company can't do shit, it's to late the game is out there, this is how I would go about doing it, if I knew how to code and remaster games.

Right. Complete it in private, then make it public by releasing it everywhere. That's the only way someone can expect work like this to survive. Takedowns keep happening, and otherwise intelligent creators keep making the same dumb mistake of showing their hand too early.

If he doesn't make any profit from free software, then the joke's on them for spending thousands on a lawsuit for something that can't be undone. Basically suing someone all because of their frail egos. Which I wouldn't put past Konami at this point.

Whether he profits or not is immaterial to if they could win a lawsuit. All Konami would have to claim is some sort of monetary damage. Even if that monetary damage is questionable in reality, the courts look at it more as potential loss and high minded hypothetical.

It's unlikely Konami would sue them. But a cease and desist is the first step in that process. If they didn't take it down, or already released it, then they are within their rights to sue.

That being said, I wouldn't personally side with Konami on this, because they've done a lot of stupid things, but I know and respect the rights they actually do have as the IP holder.

The last game they got out there was metal garbage survive or something ridic. They need to sell mg to kojima so he can keep his baby and treat it with respect. They really need to sell off their ips in general and just go to the casinos as they have. People that have a heartfelt passion about their console gaming don't want konami in their space bc of how toxic they've have been. If mg was a lesser series that would be one thing but as a whole it's great. PT at this point, we realize will be trash compared to what we've seen, not just by the teaser but mgs5 and we'll the general direction of their company. They need to chill, restructure, apologize, and get their act together that's all. Leave these small things alone. Konami is their own worst enemy right now. Oh and cant wait to pilot jehuty in vr, but yeah f you Konami, you knew I'd buy it.

Things like this are two-fold issues

1. The IP owner will strike it because why let people have innocent fun? F them.

2. The people making these Unreal remakes are most often Looking for work and not looking to actually make a full remake of anything. It's self-advertising, plain and simple. If they really cared about making it they'd keep quiet and release when done on a platform that allowed anonymity. That or gave to a few people to share and it would spread like things do on the internet.

No, they want studio attention and that's fine (!) but also misleading to those awaiting the finished product. Of course Konami was going to remove it once told. Of course.

Anyone suggesting any company protecting the property they have built, developed, exploited and most importantly own simply doesn't have a realistic understanding of IP or business.

As someone who works in the IP sector, I cannot stress how important protecting your brands can be and how far reaching the consequences of allowing infingment to occur can be. Konami are very unpopular, probably, that public dislike is deserved but they absolutely have the right to dictate how their property is used.
