It does make sense. Playing and conquering a From game is an experience from start to finish and having easier (or more difficult) settings would dilute that. It's good that you can talk about Ornstein and Smough and instantly everyone knows exactly what you mean because you all shared it.

Skull5212163d ago

They aren’t that bad if you can brave through the 10-12 hour learning curve.

Timesplitter142163d ago (Edited 2163d ago )

To me, adding difficulty selection to these types of games feels like building an elevator to the top of Mt Everest with a little gift shop too. It feels like ruining something sacred, and just knowing that that elevator is there would lessen the experience even for real climbers

Knowing that there is only one way to the top and there are no possible easier alternatives is something that makes it feel so much more special

Plus, difficulty helps build a sentiment of solidarity across the entire community. The DS community is one of the best out there and I believe the game's difficulty is largely responsible for that

jerethdagryphon2163d ago

Am i the only one who never found that boss hard

iDadio2163d ago

Nah I did it first time on NG and NG+ on the remaster BUT I was a mage this time around, I don't think I had it as easy with Melee on vanilla

jerethdagryphon2163d ago

I coop for that boss for ages ended up with 99 medals from it

Baza2163d ago

I’m surprised Activision isn’t making them tone down difficulty for Sekiro.

Smokehouse2163d ago (Edited 2163d ago )

Activision is probably involved in process as much as Bandai Namco or Sony is with the soulsborne games. Sony owns the IP but I doubt they get in their way. I would guess it’s more for international manufacturing and advertising help rather than development supervision. Or a side deal that came with the rights to tenchu.

Bleucrunch2163d ago

I am still disappointed that From is working with Activision...those folks are scum in the gaming world. I do not expect much from this game because Activision has its name on it.

uth112163d ago

i don't tbink the games would be that interesting with an easy mode.

i also don't think they are as hard as people claim. i mean if I can finish them, anyone can

iDadio2163d ago

Your first run through on new game IS the easy mode, NG+ is where it starts to get dicey

yomfweeee2163d ago

It is their choice, but I don't buy the argument.

Some people are good at playing games, but some aren't. Easy mode for one person could be the same experience as hard mode for a great player. Each could get the same enjoyment from the game.

Timesplitter142163d ago (Edited 2163d ago )

You make it sound as though you think the people who enjoy Dark Souls only enjoy it because they can get through it relatively easily, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Absolute soul-crushing difficulty is the GOAL of the dark souls experience; it's not some kind of barrier for the player's enjoyment of it. Difficulty is what you should be seeking out of this game, regardless of your abilities. If you're too good at dark souls, you're basically missing out.

DS is all about feeling what it's like to face insurmountable odds and to be killed thousands of times, but never giving up. It's not about doing that with ease. If you'd remove the "punishing" aspect from it, you'd remove what makes it special and you'd be missing out on one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time

yomfweeee2163d ago

No I didn't make it sound like that. I never said the game should be easy. But you may need to make it easier for certain players (but it will still be difficult to them).

I guess you missed my point. I agree with what you say the goal of the game is... Soul-crushing difficulty.

If person A is a life-long gamer who excels at games. The game will still be difficult for them and enjoyable as is.

If person B is a casual gamer and isn't very good at them. That person may find the game impossible. It won't be enjoyable if they can't progress at all. They may need a little help. What's the harm? Who are we to say how they should enjoy the game?

BlaqMagiq12163d ago

The whole point of their games is to learn and get better. Most players that love the Souls games used to whine and complain saying it's too hard, but now they power through these games because they understand its structure. Even the most hardcore gamers had to learn this truth. Shu Yoshida used to hate Demon's Souls, now he loves the entire Souls series.

yomfweeee2163d ago

I'll keep repeating myself if you all keep repeating that same argument. I understand the whole point of the game is for it to be challenging and for you to fail as you continue to learn and get better.

My point is that some people just may not be good at games? It may be too hard for them and they'll never be good enough.

Again that is the developer's choice. But I think they should be open to how some people can enjoy games.
As I get older and have less and less time to play games and my kids are hogging my system.... I always take the easiest route in games so I can get through them fastest. I still enjoy it.

BlaqMagiq12162d ago

Going by your point, these games are simply not for them. These are for people that are willing to put in the effort to complete their games. That is why a different variety of games exist. If you want games that will give you the easiest route and complete them fast, those exist too. Just not from From Software. That's just not how they do things.

on_line_forever2163d ago

" We don't want to include a difficulty selection because we want to bring everyone to the same level of discussion and the same level of enjoyment," Miyazaki said. "So we want everyone … to first face that challenge and to overcome it in some way that suits them as a player."

iam totally agree with him

Helldivers 2 weapon rebalancing to get massive buff with studio’s new Chief Creative Officer

Pilestedt writes: "Very good question. First thing we got to do is ensure we get more devs time playing the game. It's hard to make the right decisions if the eyes aren't on the road.

Secondly, I want to ensure we actively look at the sentiment and create a holistic view of WHY feedback is given. And my working theory is that TTK is too high."

Stellar Blade has sold more physical copies than Dragon's Dogma 2 in Japan, despite PS5 exclusivity

By the looks of it, PlayStation 5 exclusivity does not hurt the sales of Stellar Blade in Japan as the game has passed 90,000 sold physical copies.

Stellar Blade really deserves way more praise than it got, devs have been adding more and more content, for free, since release and the game already was great to begin with!

BrettAwesome4h ago

More than it got? It got tons, by everyone except the sad wankers who's idea of a sex life, is pulling on their dicks while watching big fake cgi titties 😂

Cacabunga4h ago

I think we can safely claim that Stellar Blade 2 is confirmed!
I got it day one, i have some backlog due to RDR2 i just platinumed.. i will get to Stellar Blade in the near future

shinoff21833h ago

Same but I'm hitting yakuza right now. Stellar blade looks cool though.

neutralgamer19922h ago

Capcom really dropped the ball with DG2. They had easy success on their hand but instead with their stupid decisions ruined the games success

Stellar blade is an amazing game and deserves all the success. For all the artificial hate it got from people who had no interest in the game to begin with this shows if you make a good game it will sell. The so called 1st party drought from PlayStation has meant 4 exclusives in 2024 so far. Other companies need to learn how to run a business and plan for the future

H96h ago

Stellar blade is performing very impressively there, DD2 didn't do well because word of mouth destroyed it's reputation and not about the Microtransactions or performance, bad word of mouth about how the game lacks so many things that were in the first one

Redemption-644h ago

DS2 sold 2.5M in a little over a week, what the hell are you talking about?

H93h ago

"there", that's Japan, this article is about Japan, the bad word of mouth is about Japan

Hereandthere5h ago

Exclusives matter. No matter what bumbling phil and bond try to say, exclusives is why you buy a console.

The_Hooligan2h ago

How dare you speak common sense!!??

XiNatsuDragnel5h ago

Stellar blade is great excited for 2

anast4h ago

They dropped the ball with dogma. SB is a solid game, it just had to weather the social storm.

shinoff21833h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Said that dd2 was missing things the first one did, like mass effect 2? I haven't played it so I'm really asking.

spss112h ago

I've played both and I have no idea what people say when they claim it's "incomplete". I've only noticed new things in comparison to DD1 (I would give a list but spoilers). Sometimes I wonder if some people actually played DD1 or maybe they remember it differently. Anyways, if you liked the first one and want more of that, you'll probably like DD2.

Sony CEO says although AI "has been used for creation," it's "not a substitute for human creativity"

"AI is not a substitute for human creativity. We position it as a technology that supports creativity. Creativity resides in people. We will continue to contribute to people's creativity through technology," the CEO said.

...not yet but 100% within the next 10 years!

..Then Sony will use it like the drop of a hat. They're no different to the others.

isarai1d 2h ago (Edited 1d 2h ago )

They used to be 😞 sure it was always a business, and money's always the priority, but they used to have a very strong stance on supporting artists and creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" was a phrase they touted a few times back in the ps1-ps3 era, a philosophy carried over from their music branch PlayStation was created from. It's not COMPLETELY gone, but it's barely there compared to what it was back then, i just want them to return to that.

Eonjay6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I am highly encouraged by their statement about human creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" is exactly what they are saying. But at the same time, I don't think people understand that Sony is a corporation. If they don't realize growth, they don't get to exist. When you say 'Sony', you are talking about a bunch of investors. To speak about them any other way is a illogical and incorrect. They haven't changed. They have been a group of investors since they became a public business.

isarai18h ago

Ugh, i really wish people would stop gambling people's livelihoods by turning a project/game into their political soapbox. Im all for statements and having your own opinion, but there's more people working on this than just druckman, ham fisting your political beliefs onto just seems inconsiderate for everyone elses job security when it can result in a failure due to people avoiding it for that reason.

I play games for escape, im so tired of nearly every AAA game blatantly dragging real world issues to shove in my face when I'm trying to take a break from it all. They don't even bother to be subtle about it, quite the opposite, it's blasted and force fed to you and it's just getting exhausting

Einhander19729h ago

People are taking a whole interview and cutting it down to clips that make him look bad and take what he actually was saying out of context. For example he also said things like this AI has "ethical issues we need to address"

-Foxtrot8h ago

@Einhander

Why defend him at this point?

It’s not taking things out of context, he said what he said.

Old ND would never talk about soulless AI taking over so many creative things they are well known for. The whole “ethical issues” is just a good PR spin people who push this crap fall back on to make their statements not seem as bad. So many AI lovers do this.

AI has no place is so many creative based things.

Einhander19729h ago

Well yeah, because everyone else is using it so they need to stay competitive. It's the same as paid online, they didn't want to go that route but their competition was making so much money they needed to add paid online just to keep up.

RaiderNation6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

AI will never replace humans in game development in terms of conceptualizing new games. Humans still need to come up with the ideas and what they want to implement. However much of the day to day menial coding could be AI driven to reduce production time and team size. I could also see AI being used for bug testing/optimization that could lead to better quality games at launch. I'm actually very optimistic about how AI can positively impact game development.

Good statement but hopefully this holds up

NotoriousWhiz7h ago

People that aren't software developers just don't understand the benefits of AI. People who's only exposure to A.I is the Terminator movie and other related sci fi films won't understand the benefits it provides.

It's not about replacing human labor. It's about making human labor easier.

Many years ago, I had laser eye surgery done. It was performed by a robot. The doctor took my measurements and calibrated the machine to make sure it would do what needed be done. And then the robot corrected my vision in 10 seconds.

15 years later and I still have 20/20 vision.

Eonjay6h ago

AI in and of itself is not a 'bad'. Money is bad. Money is evil, and corporations will do whatever they can to get more of it. They will find ways to implement AI to replace as may jobs as possible. This isn't even up for debate. It is the charge of the corporation to maximize returns for the investors. They have no choice. I'm a developer and I know that my job will absolutely be replaced. Therefore, I have decided to become an AI dev. AI has a lot of potential to help us solve problem on a scale most can't even imagine. The issue, as ever is that our monetary system only ever allows us to focus on greed and fiscal growth.

But I am a pragmatist. Perhaps an AI model can be built to help protect us from our most dangerous instincts and habits. And perhaps Congress can pass laws to protect us from people who would use AI to manipulate and control us (spoiler: they wont).
