Final Fantasy XV for PC was built from the ground up, is a generation ahead of the console version

DSOGaming writes: "In a special message to the Steam community, director Hajime Tabata revealed that the PC version of Final Fantasy XV was not ported from consoles but rather built from the ground up, and that it is a generation ahead of the console version that was released in 2016."

This is how a 9th gen game would perform you say?

zivtheawesome2318d ago

after checking the benchmark i get what he's saying. they are using much different tech for some stuff and it really looks stunning (TBH i also saw no difference between standard quality and high though, maybe a little more clean, but standard is definitly above ps4 quality)

DarkOcelet2317d ago

There is a huge difference in the amount of Foliage on the ground everywhere between standard and high and it's especially visible at the place where Noctis waits for the chocobo to arrive.

Diffraction_Fos2316d ago

My rig is only entry level. And I tested the 1280x720 Standard Quality, and it got a 6687 score which is apparently pretty good for that setting. I was actually surprised that Square Enix might actually be working hard on optimizations. However, since this was the Benchmark application, I'm not going to hold my breath hoping that the actual game would run that well at that setting.

Visual-wise, it looked really good even on Standard Quality. However I did notice a fair few pop-ins in draw distance, foliage and general ground clutter. Also there were noticeable frame skipping in certain scene changes as well.

At this point, I'm willing to believe that SE are actually working from the ground-up for the PC version and not just put out a shitty port.

Cmv382317d ago

Going to look great and tell the exact same story especially when... (spoiler alert) ... was crazy.

C-H-E-F2316d ago

when noctis dies? oh yeah you're right ahahahahaha

Jaypi032316d ago

You asshole. There's people who probably never played it, and will be playing it for the first time on PC, why the hell would you spoil it for them? I hate people sometimes.

C-H-E-F2313d ago (Edited 2313d ago )

welp they should've bought it on console like the rest of us LMAO AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA hilarious. hate is a strong word btw, also 9/10 those who hate others have something within them they hate that those they are hating possess or don't have faults similar... ahahah welp #NoeffsGiven just a game.

starchild2316d ago

Yeah and we should all be watching movies on VHS and black and white CRT TVs because the movies would "tell the exact same story", right? I mean, if visual quality and performance doesn't matter...

The_Sage2316d ago

Don't be a punk. It's more like the difference between 1080i and 1080p.

PixelOmen2317d ago (Edited 2317d ago )

Framerate, shaders, post, and textures all def look noticeably better, but to call it "a generation ahead" might be a bit hyperbolic.

neoandrew2317d ago

Well if "Framerate, shaders, post, and textures " can't look the same noticeably better on current gen consoles then guess what, it is generation ahead of them.

PixelOmen2317d ago (Edited 2317d ago )

If the difference between this generation and the next is the difference between medium and high settings in a current PC game, it's going to be a very disappointing generation.

starchild2316d ago

There are probably fewer differences between some games that released on both PS3/360 and PS4/XB1, so without going through and completely redoing all the assets and art I'd say that, yeah, this could be considered a generation ahead. Especially since there isn't any exact standard for what represents a generational leap. These differences are certainly more than you see between the PS4 and XB1 or between the PS4 Pro and PS4 versions of games.

neoandrew2314d ago (Edited 2314d ago )

PixelOmen, well but this is what you stated yourself

"Framerate, shaders, post, and textures all def look noticeably better"

and yet impossible on current gen consoles right? If it was they would do it. Thus this is next gen for them.

And you thing what new gen of consoles will bring? It is just more power, nothing more.

GamingSinceForever2317d ago

As all PC games should be. Too bad most of them aren’t a generation ahead.

xX-oldboy-Xx2317d ago

Absolutely - too bad not every PC gamer can enjoy all the extra effort.

EatCrow2317d ago

Just like not all console owners buy the consoles exclusives. Different strokes for different folks

xX-oldboy-Xx2317d ago

EatCrow - it was in reference that not too many PC gamers have decent rigs.

neoandrew2317d ago

You dont need a decent rig, most of games give you 60 fps even on i3, especially on the new i3 with 4 cores.

starchild2316d ago

Oh, the ol' attempt to downplay the advantages the PC offers by making a big deal about the fact not every PC gamer has a high end rig.

Why does that matter? There are more people with gaming PCs that outperform the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X than there are people who own those consoles. And guess what? The PC gamers you talk to on game sites are likely to be those who have higher end rigs.

In any case, when you buy the PC version that's the version you're getting, so it's valuable to know what it's capable of. Because even if your current rig can't max it out you probably will be able to after your next upgrade.

xX-oldboy-Xx2316d ago

Starchild - I'm one of those PC owners, custom 1080 watercooled rig - made by me.

Truth is when I used to play games on it the amount people I'd come across who had potato rigs was ridiculous.

Atleast with the easch of the consoles it's only internet speed that is the difference. You dont come across some prick who turns everything off to higher fps.

The problem with PC gam8ng is the devs have to cater to too many differing configurations. I applaud a dev who actually takes advantage of the power at hand.

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled52d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog184d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake184d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic182d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan183d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman184d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator184d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno184d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior184d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake184d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
