Yes it is and Nintendo continues to prove they are the ONLY hardware company where exclusives matter more than third party.

UCForce2401d ago

You can say the same thing to Sony.

Relientk772401d ago

Who releases the most exclusives each year? Answer is Sony

freshslicepizza2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

@UCForce
"You can say the same thing to Sony."

Not really. The PS4 copy of Fallout 4 sold 7.5 million copies, that won't happen with any multiplat on the Switch. Their exclusives cotinue to overpower all other games. The PS4 has a good balance of all titles making it less of a system to buy solely for its exclusives. This is why the Playstation and Xbox and PC all share the same marketplace while Nintendo continues to be in the drivers seat for exclusives that people will buy the hardware solely for.

What game on the PS4 has an attach rate like Zelda does on the Switch?

DiRtY2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

No, you can't say the same thing about Sony.
Best selling games on PS4 are mostly 3rd party games. 9 out of the 10 best selling games on PS4 are 3rd party / multiplat games.

Same thing for Xbox One with 9 out of 10 games being multiplat. Technically 2 are first party though (minecraft), but only one is exclusive.

For the Switch: 5/10 games are first party for Nintendo.

*edit* Btw, I don't enjoy games more or less if they are exclusive or not.
Exclusives do not mean quality IMO and it comes down to taste.

bouzebbal2401d ago

lol the butthurt xbox fanboy trying to stealth diss the PS4.
Problem is, xbox is the only hardware ocmpany where neither exclusives nor 3rd party matters.
*fixed*

UCForce2401d ago

Sony have both of their first party and third party sales. Remember PS2 ? That Console had both first party and third party. So yes, they are the same.

remixx1162401d ago

@moldy

Lol you just couldn't say congrats to ninty could you??

Any shot at Sony you can take you will fire even in an article that has nothing to do with them.

Also it's mad funny how you try to put them on the same playing field as your favorite company when you know damn well sony shits on Microsoft when it comes to exclusives.

Also when it comes to zelda...lol dude they've been pumping that good ass franchise out for damn near 30 years so of course it's attach rate is gonna be high. Sony doesn't even make the same games as it did 15 years ago except maybe gran turismo and guess how high of a selling franchise that game is??

Good job to nintendo for producing such amazing games, I'll grab this along with my second copy of breath of the wild tho I don't know when I'll be able to play it due to the sheer amount of exclusives I have to play right now on my ps4. Still playing horizon, gr2 and persona 5. Haven't even opened nier automata yet and still gotta pick up gt sport and nioh.

Oh well I'm cool with a massive backlog...

That's a problem I'm sure moldy doesn't have.

Lol, Ouch that must hurt!! Tell them sad xbox loyalist nongamers hiding behind great nintendo exclusives to feel able to take shots at playstation. I feel sorry for these desperate and lost creatures. Their lifes must be very unpleasant!

GamingSinceForever2401d ago

Considering that Nintendo hardly gets the multiplats it's not say saying much really.

nowitzki20042401d ago

Why do you guys keep giving this fool attention? ignore him.

2401d ago
UCForce2401d ago

Sure, Nintendo games have higher score than Sony games. Sony do have same attention just like Nintendo but only different direction. For Sony, they rely on their studios to create a new IP, not just their old franchise. For example, HZD have been successful from critics and consumers. Even the game didn't have higher score like Zelda Breath of The Wild, but GG made a huge comeback.

andrewsquall2401d ago

@moldybread Whoa whoa whoa. Who ever said that exclusives matter MORE than third party??? When did Switch sales overtake PS4 sales?

A great amount of exclusives AND 3rd party games together are what matter and are what always mattered. See PS2 for reference. Even though Gamecube had Wind Waker and Smash Bro's Melee and sold millions, it just simply wasn't enough.

You know this so why are you denying it? Oh, to hate on PS4, figures.

Cyro2401d ago

Is that supposed to be a good thing? Sony has good exclusives on top of having third party support.

3-4-52400d ago

Yea but Sony is reliant upon 3rd party much more than Nintendo is. If the PS4 had the 3rd party support of the Wii U, I don't think we would see a PS5.

Sony needs 3rd party for it's survival, where as Nintendo doesn't...they have proven to survive on their own IP's again and again.

rainslacker2400d ago

Do you really have to bring in Sony into every topic?

Even if you didn't state it explicitly, your track record and intent are clear given just how often you say that exclusives don't matter....except now they apparently are because of Nintendo, despite the fact that Sony's big exclusives mostly outsell Nintendo's.

Relientk77

Not this year dude. Nintendo has more. Look it up.

The 10th Rider2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

The thing is the PS4 gets a lot of third party exclusives. Many people include those as games Sony brought to PS4, even though it wasn't Sony that published or developed them. If you include those, PS4 has the most exclusives by a longshot simply because they're the only console that gets VR games and they're currently getting a lot of the Japanese games. If you don't include those, it's pretty close. Sony probably has the edge if you include PSVR titles, but Nintendo probably has the edge if you're comparing PS4 + PSVR to Switch + 3DS (vita doesn't effect it as all as Sony doesn't publish or develop games for it anymore). Strictly PS4 vs Switch it's pretty dang close and depends on what you include. If you look at the history of games published by Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo they all actually tend to publish fairly close numbers of major titles for their respective console each year, with Microsoft lagging behind in the past few years (especially this year).

Agreed. Nintendos exclusives have the power of very well known IP that rival Mickey Mouse and McDonalds for brand recognition. They got that going long before the console wars and exclusives were a huge thing and it’s paid off.

Exclusives by their very nature are in fact limited. Hence the classification. That makes them harder to be known to more people and it also takes years for IP to become so successful. That’s also why I say just being an exclusive doesnt make a game good. It needs brand, and familiarity - becoming s household name. Games like Knack and Gravity Rush are exclusives but prove that didn’t matter. Too niche and unknown. Ironically they would have done better if released on more platforms.

Also of note, exclusive sales usually pale in comparison to multiplatform sales. Peopl on here go on and on about uncharted 4 and so on being huge, and they are, but if you look at sales numbers, you’ll see that it sold a fraction of wildlands and Destiny 2 and PUBG and so on. Only 2 PS4 exclusives are in the top 10 global sales for 2017.

It just shows you how powerful Nintendo’s IP truly is comparatively to other exclusives. I wholeheartedly agree with you.

UCForce2401d ago

True, Sony games do have their low and high. But I prefer them to be risky on their own.

So the people who have played it how would you rate it compared to:

SMB3
SML
NSMB
SM3DW/L

2401d ago
Concertoine2401d ago

The 2D games are in their own league for me. Its like apples to oranges.

But still:
SMO > SMB3
SMO >>> SML
SMO >>>>>> NSMB
SMO > 3DW

3d world with beer and friends probably tops Odyssey though :P

Sirk7x2400d ago

3D World was superior in its multiplayer aspect. I had great fun playing that with my old roommates. Odyssey is just...so good though lol.

ShottyatLaw2401d ago

It's hard to compare 2d vs. 3d Mario. I'm also a SMW > SMB3 kind of guy too. I would say Odyssey tops Galaxy 2 as the best 3d Mario.

230 moons collected so far, and still finding new challenges every minute.

Theknightofnights2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

I'd say that Super Mario Odyssey is better than all of those games. Though a case can be made for Super Mario Bros. 3 being better depending on how much you enjoy 2D style Mario games. SMB3 hasn't aged a bit!

higgins782401d ago

Ok, I'll bite...

SMW, Galaxy (1&2), Odyssey, SMB3, Yoshi's Island, yes, in that order, and yes, I'm lumping both galaxies as a whole.

Saying all this however, I'm happier playing Odyssey today than I would likely be ANY other games in the canon.

InTheZoneAC2401d ago

I appreciate your opinion, but I dislike Yoshi's Island as much as I do SMB2 lol

Sirk7x2400d ago

It's one of the most fun, strangest games I've ever played. Might be stealing my top spot from Super Mario World, to be honest.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.

The 7 Best Selling Switch Games of All Time

The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?

GotGame818106d ago

Animal crossing came out the week the entire world shutdown. Yeah I bought it.

kevco33106d ago

Agreed. I think a lot of the AC: H sales have to do with early lockdown players!

I mean, I would've played it anyway. But I guess there's a lot of people who got into it because of the hype and their new found free time!

DivineHand125106d ago

Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.

kevco33106d ago

It's the Capcom method:

1. Add a new word to the end of the title and features that should've been expected first time around.
2. Charge full price for it.
3. Profit.

gold_drake105d ago

this is why i always say that Nintendo will always be fine. look at those numbers lol

and those are all first party games.
