Super Mario Odyssey makes a major change to a core gameplay element of the series. Lives are now completely gone.

Now confirm Luigi for this game Nintendo

wonderfulmonkeyman2429d ago

There was a recent little tidbit where some poeple were getting a Luigi hat keychain that was branded from Mario Odyssey, via the game's logo in metal letters on the other end of it.

That's not exactly confirmation of anything, but could the hint be any more obvious?XD
The only real question now, IMO, is whether or not we'll have to finish the game first or not, in order to play as the man in green himself.
It'd be nice if we could Switch midway through the game instead of having to wait till the end, but if it would make more sense to the story then I can see them doing it that way...

Prince_TFK2429d ago

This. I would love to have Lugi in this, although this might be difficult for them to implement due to the cloth/outfit system.

I'm more disappointed they ditch the hub

I wanted to see a huge space craft where we could explore as it's own level similar to Peach's Castle or Delfino Plaza

SuperBlunt2429d ago

I thought new donk city was the Hub? Lol but from gameplay vids it looks like the entrances of levels are hubs (with shops and whatever else). I dunno, hyped asf though

-Foxtrot2429d ago

No. New Donk City is a world

Odyssey won't have a hub

scorpio_20492429d ago

I agree. I enjoyed Galaxy 1 & 2 but missed the hub world. The unlocking of areas of the hub world was always a fun way to feel a sense of progression in the game. I desperately wanted a hub world for this game but with the theme I understand why it didn't make sense. Hopefully we'll return to a Peach's castle/Mushroom Kingdom style hub in a future game.

That brings up another point. I'd love for them to more fully explore just what the "Mushroom Kingdom" is. That would open up the possibility of a Mushroom Kingdom hub.

equal_youth2429d ago

Isn't the ship the Hub? It might be Small but it Looks like it will Take the place.

-Foxtrot2429d ago

It's literally a thing you go on to select a new world...that's it really. It's not even something you can run around on.

The 10th Rider2429d ago

I dunno man, I don't think it's particularly an issue with how the worlds are set up—As it is each world is essentially like the Delfino Plaza hub in Sunshine. They're all interconnected with paintings you can traverse too. Wouldn't a hub world essentially be the same as another kingdom?

-Foxtrot2429d ago

Still could have had the ship serve as a huge hub if they made it bigger. It wouldn't be a problem at all...it would have just been an extra level you could have explored and found secrets it. I don't see why nobody would want that...it's more content at the end of the day.

The 10th Rider2429d ago

I wouldn't be opposed to some sort of hub like that. However the same amount of work could be put into expanding a kingdom or adding a new one. Each kingdom already has jump points between kingdoms, hidden coins and levels to collect, hidden levels to find, it's own shops, little quests . . . Basically all the features previous hub worlds have had. A hub world wouldn't hurt the game, but at the same time it's not as glaring of an omission as it was in the linear level based games, Galaxy 1/2 and 3D World.

wonderfulmonkeyman2429d ago

@Fox
Actually, you can run around inside the Odyssey a little bit, and you can even purchase new decor for both the inside and outside of the ship, as you travel.
I'll agree that it's not as good as having a hub "world", but it's better than nothing.

Can't wait for this. It really does look like the best Mario game ever made.

SuperBlunt2429d ago

Yeah I loved galaxy 1 and sunshine the most and I would love to see them toppled as my car Mario games. I'm picking up a switch in Nov (especially after that smash 4 port leak) and will repurchase botw and Mario kart 4 and will probably scoop splatoon 2 as I heard it was great fun but oddysee will consume most of my time.

Prince_TFK2429d ago

Lol at the disagree. It seem you can't even be excited about a non-sony game on this site anymore.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.

The 7 Best Selling Switch Games of All Time

The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?

GotGame818106d ago

Animal crossing came out the week the entire world shutdown. Yeah I bought it.

kevco33105d ago

Agreed. I think a lot of the AC: H sales have to do with early lockdown players!

I mean, I would've played it anyway. But I guess there's a lot of people who got into it because of the hype and their new found free time!

DivineHand125105d ago

Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.

kevco33105d ago

It's the Capcom method:

1. Add a new word to the end of the title and features that should've been expected first time around.
2. Charge full price for it.
3. Profit.

gold_drake105d ago

this is why i always say that Nintendo will always be fine. look at those numbers lol

and those are all first party games.
