Preview: Super Mario Odyssey is the True Successor to Super Mario 64

Red Bull Games Australia recently went hands-on with a fresh version of Super Mario Odyssey and writes:

"The addition of Cappy is clearly the hook here, just like the water-based jetpack from Super Mario Sunshine. But unlike the excellent but scrappy Sunshine, the larger size of the worlds and overall scope never feel too big or stray too far from the core simplicity that made Super Mario 64 one of the all-time greats. It’s a testament to the talent at Nintendo, that they’re still able to create such brilliant slices of 3D platforming. And like with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, uncompromising stuff too. With Mario having to time jumps to perfection and navigate platforms so thin that at times you’ll wonder if they’re even there.

With a story all about collecting Power Moons and stopping Bowser from pulling off his latest spiky-shelled scheme, there’s also a feeling of celebration to be found throughout Super Mario Odyssey. Or, the bits that we got to play. Which ultimately comes down to the design, and the sheer number of fun and varied ideas you can come across even in a brief 90-minute play session. See a rather blocky green pipe at the base of a wall? Enter it and you’ll get to play-through a wall-sized 8-bit Mario challenge inspired by look and feel of the NES original."

I've been waiting 4 years for another great 3D Mario platformer

3d world was an excellent game , but at the time what we really wanted was Super Mario Odyssey. Luckily, it comes out in a month 😊

3D world was a 9/10 but didn't reach the highs of 64, Sunshine or Galaxy 1 and 2

Special mention for 3D land on 3DS. Was arguably the best use of stereoscopic 3D and just a brilliant game.

Umm.. Galaxy was just as good as 64, and a welcome addition.

It was but its not the same type of games as Mario 64 and Sunshine was.

If anything this new mario is closer to what Mario Sunshine was than Mario 64

Sounds great, Super Mario 64 was my very first videogame.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.

The 7 Best Selling Switch Games of All Time

The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?

Animal crossing came out the week the entire world shutdown. Yeah I bought it.

Agreed. I think a lot of the AC: H sales have to do with early lockdown players!

I mean, I would've played it anyway. But I guess there's a lot of people who got into it because of the hype and their new found free time!

Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.

It's the Capcom method:

1. Add a new word to the end of the title and features that should've been expected first time around.
2. Charge full price for it.
3. Profit.
