Surely there’s a better name for games like Gone Home than “walking simulator”

AVclub: "I really dislike the term “walking simulator.” Maybe it is the best term to describe this brand of first-person adventure game, but it feels laden with condescension. "

Sight-seeing games? Non-gameplay games?

rainslacker2492d ago

If you go by what genre I'd put it in, I'd probably get a restriction from commenting because you can't say such things about games.

Otherwise, it's an adventure game. Not a good one, but that's the core genre it resides in.

Majin-vegeta358d ago

Killzone liberation
Hercs adventure
Worms
Coded souls
The classics this month

meanmallard358d ago

A lot of really good stuff on that list.

The thing I would say stands out is the variety, there are games from all genres literally from FPS shooters with Far Cry 6 to Visual Novel/Choose your own Adventure with Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York and games for all ages that even families with little kids can play, there are some great games parents can play with their kids.

ChasterMies358d ago

Nice to know about “A Hat in Time”.

meanmallard358d ago

Great game highly recommended.
:
Last month's recommendation was Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin

I was just about to buy that TMNT game last week too

Shane Kim358d ago

I was about to buy it yesterday, because it's on sale. But something just said to me to hold off.

Abnor_Mal358d ago (Edited 358d ago )

Bought the game like a month or two ago, oh well no use crying over it now, good fun game. Can we get a remaster of the Hyperstone Heist next.

CoNn3rB357d ago

So this is the power of ultra instinct

-Ghost358d ago

Rogue Legacy 2 coming to PS finally. Can't wait to try it out.

meanmallard358d ago

It's pretty cool they're having a whole campaign with the rollout of more cloud support.

If I'm reading it correctly they are even adding cloud support for digital games you own outside of PSPlus

We’re currently testing cloud streaming for supported PS5 games – this includes PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Game Trials, ------>as well as supported digital PS5 titles that players own <-------

Puty358d ago

Yeah. Still unavailable in lot of countries in Europe though.

shinoff2183357d ago

I'm not sure alot of ps fans care about cloud.

JackBNimble357d ago

No, but if I had access to my ps3 library via cloud I would be happy.
I'm surprised sony doesn't offer that as a solution to BC for purchased ps3 digital games.

Top 10 Walking Simulators on Xbox One

Dave writes: "If you’re a fan of walking simulators, then the name probably sticks in the throat, but let’s ‘own it’ and chuck the best and mightiest of the genre into a bear pit and let them have at it! Hoo-rah! As with most genre lists, there’s some controversy about what does or doesn’t constitute a walking simulator. Dialogue and navigation is preferred over puzzles and more intensive interaction like combat or QTEs. Jumping/crouching is positively frowned upon. Strap on your hiking boots and let’s ramble!"
