Because they are busy milking Skyrim to death.

thekhurg2547d ago

Or they know that they can't match the talent that has gone into recent open world games like Witcher 3 and Zelda. Because their studio is largely just modders from the ES community. The bulk of them have never actually developed a game, they've just been working with the same engine since Morrowind and doing large "mods" for each release.

Hell, their animations have barely changed since Oblivion, and haven't changed at all since Skyrim (this includes Fallout 3 & 4).

No matter what "reasons" they give, it's really because they know they can't deliver something people won't chuckle at like most did with Fallout 4.

Skull5212547d ago

I'd be a little bummed if we don't see ES6 this console generation. I think with the design of XBOX we are going to see a generation as long as the last one though, probably why Microsoft made it so damn powerful.

zombiewombie2547d ago

You beat me to saying you beat me to it to the guy that beat us to it.

b163o12547d ago (Edited 2547d ago )

I'm calling bull, they're developing it, i have no proof, but look at FO4 they announced it and released it later that year. Bethesda aren't going to announce anything as big as ESVI until they're in the final push. Kudos to them cause i hate when something is announced and comes out a year or two after...

Can't wait for Skyrim to re-release for the 27th time

AzubuEntus2547d ago

On a serious note, supposedly the next TES game will be located in the Khajit land or Argonian land.

Prince_TFK2547d ago

Coming soon on a microwave.

conanlifts2547d ago (Edited 2547d ago )

Well give it a few more years and the such version will be alne to run on a mobile phone. Maybe the S11/S12 or equivalent.

ZaWarudo2547d ago

Can't wait for Skyrim 2: Electric Boogaloo.

_-EDMIX-_2547d ago

Different team. They likely have a port team set up to do that. The main teams almost never actually do those games.

I'm doubtful that they are "not under development" as they stated the same thing about Fallout 4.

They want to pretend they didn't even start, so they can have a E3 showing its coming in the fall like Fallout 4.

PiNkFaIrYbOi2547d ago

Don't forget about TESO as well.

"They didn't want to be the developer that was just Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Fallout for the rest of their development careers."

So instead they do shit like Wolfenstein or Evil Within? Big mistake.

SCW19822547d ago

Wolfenstein and Evil Within are freaking rad, and made by two very different studios to Bethesda studios proper. Your comment makes no sense

_-EDMIX-_2547d ago

Agreed.

Do you know just how many dumb folks on N4G legit don't even know WHO MAKES THEIR GAMES?

I literally read an article the other day on here with someone saying Bioware learned from Mass Effect to make Anthem and the comments had to correct them on that it was a DIFFERENT TEAM.

THIS is the level of slow you have on here. I mean, at this rate he might as well believe EA is just one HUGE TEAM lol That is one of my biggest pet peeves when someone makes a comment about game based on publisher and not team not knowing that they have many teams.

nX2546d ago

I was not saying they developed them, but Bethesda is the publisher who wastes resources on those projects that could be used for TES and Fallout.

C4rnos2546d ago

nX..

"Wasting" their resources on great games and developers, good one.. next you'll be saying they wasted resources on Dishonored, Prey, Doom even..

warriorcase2547d ago

Wolfenstien is made by machine games and evil within is made by tango gameworks

_-EDMIX-_2547d ago

? Who is "they"? smh.

THIS is why I say some of you need to educate yourselves on the industry. How can you make a point on something you are also uneducated on?

Bethesda is saying that as a developer, they PUBLISH those games. MachineGames makes Wolfenstein and Tango Gameworks does Evil Within.

So no, "instead", not even the same team.

Bethesda teh developer is not making those games, they are likely working on Elder Scrolls VI, rumored new IP and ESO, also note their team is like 3 different teams.

This is one of the situations where what you don't know, very much can hurt you.

dmonee2547d ago (Edited 2547d ago )

Don't forget, that these projects/games can also get outsourced to different contractors as well. Especially if they are trying to get a game out by a certain release date. Add that to even MORE people that work on these things.

nX2546d ago (Edited 2546d ago )

I'm not sure who needs the education here but it's clearly YOU who doesn't seem to understand that the resources Bethesda invests into Wolfenstein and all those other mediocre games would be much smarter spent on TES and Fallout. The developers just do what the publisher tells them to and from a pure business standpoint it would be smarter to make these devs work on projects that have some real financial impact. If you look at Bethesdas last 5 years you could easily wonder which of these games actually broke even, let alone made money.

Dragonscale2546d ago

@nx, but if they only invested in those two games that would be a pretty poor portfolio.

_-EDMIX-_2546d ago (Edited 2546d ago )

@nx-man dear God you seriously need to educate yourself on this business, I'm not even saying that to be facetious or mean I literally seriously mean read on this business because your comments are coming from a place that don't really understand the relationship between contracted Developers.

Their situation with those developers are contract-based Bethesda does not own Tango Games. You have to understand that Shinji mikami had a team in an idea to make Evil Within Bethesda was simply the publisher that was chosen, if he wanted to he actually could have went to another publisher.

I mean the fact that you don't even understand the relationship between those two and you're confusing Bethesda as being the owner of that company even more so further shows you probably don't really understand what you're talking about.

At the end of the day it's best to just let this go I'm not really sure you get what's happening to really make a comment on it.

I mean you don't even know the budgets of those games to even say they didn't break even for god sakes they're getting sequels that's enough to tell you clearly they made enough money to Warrant a continuation to those series....

@drag-don't waste your time I think it's likely a kid or a teenager and they don't really understand the process.

AZRoboto2547d ago

You quoted the perfect sentence but your comment ruined it. That's what you go with, when at E3 all they (Bethesda, not id) announce are:
- Skyrim Switch with motion controls
- Skyrim VR
- Fallout 4 VR

... da fuq, Bethesda? Like a drunk guy slurring that he really didn't drink as he downs another shot.

C4rnos2546d ago

If you knew anything about Bethesda, you'd know that 1) it takes 3-4 years per game, and 2) they only announce the game the same year they release it.

With that knowledge we can be pretty confident next E3 they'll announce something big, this year was about ID and Tango, next will be the dev team at Bethesda.

on_line_forever2547d ago

if they want to develop The Elder Scrolls VI some day i hope they make the character movement and attack style like dark souls 3 , i want special game play like from software do with there games

Course it is...you'd be a fool to believe that their biggest franchise is not

_-EDMIX-_2547d ago

Fox, Fox.....smh, too many dumb people on this site. You better BELIEVE many fools think its not happening.

If Fallout 4 can MOVE gangbusters, TEVI is a damn given that its being made.

I don't even get how some are SO SLOW AS TO REALLY BELIEVE ITS NOT!

Be like "Bethesda said no, they can't lie bro"

MatrixxGT2547d ago

And they denied Fallout 4 for how long?? Till damn near release day. TES6 is being made but they have a pretty good sealed ship over there.

_-EDMIX-_2547d ago

Agreed.

We had so much info on Fallout 4, that was going to be in Boston, about a Man or Woman looking for their son.

Whats funny, is even fans doubt the rumors cause it went on FOR YEARS! So at some point its like "awww Fallout 4 isn't coming this year or being announced"

and then BAM! lol

SO we know they are working on it and I think it makes their press events even that much more epic. You know what you are seeing will be yours by fall. Fallout 4 damn near broke RECORDS with that marketing method, Elder Scrolls VI is going to destroy those records!

ZaWarudo2547d ago

Would like to see them do a new IP in the style of TES and Fallout 3/NV/4

_-EDMIX-_2547d ago

Rumor is, thats happening also, but TES VI is still happening. They are more then 1 team

KillZallthebeast2547d ago

Thats cool and all, but those are your two biggest IPs. Why not make a whole new open world IP if you don't want to make a new one of those.

Man this studio got hit with another round? it sucks there know for dead by daylight not saying that its a bad game because its not but because its from 2016 and this team has tossed a game out almost every year sense then but each game got worse and worse sales/notice.

meet your maker all done by them has 8 players playing on average via steam
https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...
https://steamdb.info/app/11...

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Stuff like this looks like alot of work was done but so few sales this is what no doubt is causing all the layoffs.

January this year they laid off 45 people

95 is this week so this news is new

Just back to back waves of layoffs.

Every PlayStation Studios game available now on Windows PC

Windows Central writes: "Many PlayStation Studios games that are ported to PC get dedicated PS5 DualSense support, which allows users to experience haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support without actually having to own a PS5.

According to Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, it's still the company's intent to launch the bigger single-player games on PS5 first, before later bringing the games to PC. This might not be the case for multiplayer games however, which are considered okay to launch simultaneously on console and PC."

My guess is after god of war. Probably last of us 2 that's a almost 4 year old game now and by the time it's released on pc it will be more than 4 years old or close to 5.

Every old Playstation game that is now on PC.

Right. I definitely see what a headlined from a website named windows central was trying to do though. It's cute little wordplay to help out the green box

You're still ranting on an old article. Your comment to me 2 days ago didn't make any sense including this recent one. It's time to move on, get out of your basement & go on about life.

Very very early in development. Still, fantastic news!

Let´s GO!!!

Lightning776d ago

I guess.

How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )

At least it wouldn't be MS of all ppl destroying them.

MS really should let go Tango go like they did TFB here.

darthv726d ago (Edited 6d ago )

one was under Bethesda (Tango) the other under Activision (TFB). Clearly each one handled the separations of their subordinates differently.

Obscure_Observer6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

"How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )"

Perhaps because Zenimax and ABK handles such matters differently based on their own internal policies as "independent" publishers.

Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future. Which could also be the reason why they ensured an exclusive partnership with TFB and its new game, before anyone else.

Sad and disgusting. But it is what it is.

Lightning776d ago (Edited 6d ago )

"Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future."

MS has a bad rep now because those studios are no more. I rather them sell the studio continue to make multiplatform releases, while MS continues to focus on whatever they're doing. If they didn't want Tango around they should separated from them or sell them to, like they did TFB.

It's inexcusable, they have options on how to handle studios they don't want anymore with killing jobs. Not just MS but the rest of the industry also.

Sad and disgusting sure how many will get shut down next year or this year even?

I don't trust MS decisions and motivations at this point. You have to admit they make one dumb move after another.

Obscure_Observer5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

"MS has a bad rep now because those studios are no more. I rather them sell the studio continue to make multiplatform releases, while MS continues to focus on whatever they're doing. If they didn't want Tango around they should separated from them or sell them to, like they did TFB."

Imo, MS separated from TFB because they didn´t had a game associated with Xbox yet, unlike Tango.

"I don't trust MS decisions and motivations at this point. You have to admit they make one dumb move after another."

Fair enough. It was indeed an epic dumb move from them to close Tango.

Still, all to be forgotten, like always have. This is not the first time a big publisher shuts down a beloved and/or successful studio out of nowhere and certainly won´t be the last. Do you remember Lionhead? Do you remember Evolution Studios? Yeah... both were beloved studios and yet, those companies kill those studios in q blink of an eye and got away with it.

anast5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

The studio boss made some money from this transaction. Once the game releases, the studio will get chopped up.

-Foxtrot6d ago

Manages to buy their freedom especially after all the shit Microsoft has been doing with its studios lately

...

Goes right back to them as partners.

Okaaaaaay...

darthv726d ago

Id venture a guess that TFB working directly with MS was a better outcome than working through Activision to get to MS.

VersusDMC6d ago

From the article...

"Toys for Bob spun out as an indie back in February after Microsoft instituted sweeping layoffs that impacted 86 employees, which was more than half of the staff"

I doubt those 86 employees enjoyed the Microsoft experience over Activisions.

Inverno6d ago

MS shuts down studios because of lack of resources and then helps these guys by giving em resources. Also MS is what forced them to buy their freedom in the first place? What kind of logic 😂

Chevalier6d ago

The best thing is that the company that is worth $3 trillion and owns the company instead of Xbox lacks resources. How the hell does a company worth $3 trillion making a measly $70 billion purchase they 'can't' support. Lol

BlindMango5d ago

The reason they would need to "partner with Microsoft" is simply to make a game that's part of a franchise that Microsoft owns. Meaning they're probably going to make a new Spyro game - they're still an independent studio, but are making a game in a franchise that Microsoft owns. It's kind of like Remedy partnering with Rockstar to be able to make the Max Payne remakes.

shinoff21835d ago

It was probably the deal to get released from Ms

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 5d ago
Sciurus_vulgaris6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Xbox’s gaming division seems to still function as 3 semi-autonomous sub-divisions, Xbox Studios, Bethesda and ABK. The three main sub-divisions can seemingly shut down or build studios and set up partnerships independently. This would explain why Bethesda can recently shutdown studios, while ABK spins off one studio, while building a new one. Plus, Toys for Bob could be spun off by ABK, only to immediately re-partner with Microsoft.

Chevalier6d ago

That's absolutely 💯 BS. Any sane 'autonomous' company would NOT put their games on Gamepass day 1 like COD will lose probably billions.

Also they're all under Xbox game studios so any autonomy is an illusion.

PhillyDonJawn5d ago

No, I'm sure MS can and does step in when they want something done specifically but I'm also sure they let them also work independently

shinoff21835d ago

I highly highly doubt this. Ms controls all. The guys aren't gonna be allowed to just shut something down like that without approval. No way

Elda6d ago

Either a kiddie game or something uninteresting.

Obscure_Observer5d ago

Don´t worry. You won´t be playing it anyway since their next game will possible be a next gen Xbox console game.

Elda5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Don't worry about my comments.

PhillyDonJawn5d ago

Right probably something like astrobot

romulus235d ago

Nah he said "uninteresting", lots of people are interested in Astro Bot.

Elda5d ago

Never Astro Bot. Astro Bot looks better than any exclusive released on XB this entire generation & believe there hasn't been much.

PhillyDonJawn5d ago

Hey you said that about SOT and looks like many ppl on PS is playing it. You also found bugsnax interesting ffs your opinion hold no weight lol.
