Eurogamer: Yakuza 2 Review "Immersive and Entertaining"

Seeing as it's already been out in Japan for nearly two years, you'd be forgiven for greeting the European release of Yakuza 2 with a shrug. The game is set one year after the events of the original but is otherwise more of the same in almost every sense. Why should we care this far into the PS2's life span?

will track each and everyone of you who hasn't bought this game yet. You will live in fear, you won't be able to sleep, so just use those $30 and go buy it, or else.....beware.

Le-mo5715d ago

I didn't buy a copy Harry. :(

Harry1905715d ago

Harry20 won't wait. He will visit you at night and do horrible things to you. The legend of Kazuma must live.

Le-mo5715d ago

Because Le-mo doesn't have a PS2 and his PS3 isn't b/c. Le-mo will be picking up Yakuza and Yakuza 2 sometime next year to make Harry happy. :)

Kojima, Kojima and Kojima?
By far, the worst aspect of his games.

Man, it’s actually the aspects I look forward to the most in his games.

Phlacky547d ago

Not the most for me but I certainly appreciate his affinity for the cinematic. It's certainly one of the many reasons his games hit for a certain type of gamer and that combined with unique sometimes obtuse gameplay mechanics makes for one of a kind compelling experiences.

porkChop547d ago

It was only a problem for me with MGS4. I don't mind when long cutscenes are balanced with long gameplay sections. In MGS4 though I'd get a long cutscene, play for like 5 minutes, and then get another long cutscene. That gets annoying, though all the cutscenes were really well done.

roadkillers547d ago

Atleast they were entertaining cutscenes. Star Ocean put me to sleep

Shane Kim547d ago (Edited 547d ago )

Same with recent Tales of Arise. Cutscene after cutscene.

TheEroica547d ago (Edited 547d ago )

Sorry you got so many down votes for being so practical. No one in gaming takes advantage of our time more than Kojima. His cutscenes are our pure drivel and severely hamper the overall enjoyment of what's supposed to be an interactive medium. If the writing was good? Maybe that could be forgiven, but it's not... It's layers and layers of insanity pressed into hour long cutscenes.

Let me guess ... MGS4 on the first place? :D

Abnor_Mal547d ago

First thought was MGS4, seems like everyone so far had Kojima on the brain.

ManMarmalade547d ago

^^^^this. But Xenosaga is so good though.

MrNinosan547d ago

DualShockers didn't play Xenosaga I see.

Easily my favorite yakuza in he series, especially that ending.

This is how you do a remake, yakuza 1 kiwami was also great, even yakuza 0 (though not a remake)

Not a full priced game, fully upgraded with next gen graphics, expanded story modes, etc ect

XxSPIDEYxX2077d ago

It's crazy, after playing Kiwami 2 for the past week I decided to fire up Yakuza 2. Man, the difference is just...wow. The original Yakuza 2 still looks great though.

MunchMiller002077d ago

It's the greatest remake of all-time, because it has 12 years, and 2 console generations (nearly 3) between the 2 games, and benefits from modern day graphics power?

Um...... no. The best remake of all-time, is still Resident Evil, from 2002. That was both, a technical marvel with only 6 years between the games, and a true-to-heart remake, by the original creator.

Will Resident Evil 2 replace it this January? We'll see, but, doubtful. It appears to be taking too many liberties.

MadMax2077d ago

Yea, resident evil for GameCube was such an incredible remake! Grabbed it recently for ps4. Classic game!

Hardiman2077d ago (Edited 2077d ago )

Really glad Sega is putting fourth so much effort back into this series! I missed out on Yakuza initially so these remakes are a great for both veterans and newcomers alike!

KickSpinFilter2077d ago

Na Shadow of the Colossus takes that cake.

MadMax2077d ago

SOTC is definately a beautiful remake! Yakuza 2 and RE are also up there.
