2017 Is the Year of SEGA's Comeback

Dropping out of the hardware race back in 2001 with the Dreamcast, SEGA has struggled to recapture the glory of the 80’s and 90’s for the last 16 years. Corporate reduction, shutting down several first party studios, misuse of the Sonic franchise, oversaturation in the mobile market, and a general lack of focus are just some of the many offsets that have plagued it for the last decade and a half. However, the company has its best chance to finally make a comeback this year.

Not at all. They only stopped making consoles to ensure that they wouldn't go under at the time, they aren't in bad shape financially at the moment.

Petebloodyonion2666d ago

It will be the year or Sega when mainstream Media will stop pouting Sega games and give them proper coverage and grades.

Sonics always get the gold old Genesis time when Sonic games were good but they always forget the high mark they gave for: all 2d Sonics on GBA and NDS, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 4 and Generation.

Alien Isolation is now a great game pioneer with Outlast of the revival of survival Genre but IGN and Gamespot at the time gave it a 6 out of 10.

Happy for Yakuza 0 but aside review did they gave 1 article of coverage?

Muzikguy2666d ago

True I didn't understand the scores for Alien Isolation. That's one of my favorite games this generation. It does seem like media is unfair to Sega. I don't care much for Sonic, but there are plenty of other IPs

Sega, please make a new Jet Set Radio.

If this is true, it will crush everything for the price.

VenomUK1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Needs to be a PS5 portable.

Cacabunga37m ago

PS4 native with PS5 remote play capabilities. Would be sweet.

And let PS Portal support cloud streaming for all PS+ games.

crazyCoconuts55m ago

It would be a niche product like Portal. Not bad, but not mainstream. It's legacy PS4 right?

Kneetos34m ago

The switch 2 and next steam deck will be out by then and will likely be way more popular

-Foxtrot12h ago

If you had every PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and PSV game then sure but I mean if it's just the PS4 why not just get a Steam Deck?

anast2h ago

You might be correct, but it depends on the price point. Also, most PC gamers wait years for Sony releases, so it might be better just to get the PS4 handheld.

crazyCoconuts50m ago

I'd be surprised if Sony reversed course and continued to put new releases on PS4. It would cannibalize their PS5 sales

MrBaskerville1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

If it supports your library, some people own more ps4 games than steam games. I know I do.

crazyCoconuts46m ago

I might buy something like this to play my old library but man those old games are cheap on steam. This console would have to be cheap to make sense. I don't see it happening

SegaSaturn66920m ago

Deck is very viable option given how good PS3 and switch emulation have become. Even new releases are chugging along at 30fps.

MeteorPanda2h ago

I still play my vita. The oled screen was too good for it's time. I obviously had to home brew it but playing my old snes/ps1 games on it is so good.

Skuletor1h ago

How many people will buy this at launch? As a Vita owner, I'd definitely hold back after how Sony's support for that turned out.
Also, PSP played near PS2 quality games, PS Vita played near PS3 quality games, shouldn't the next Playstation handheld be aiming for near PS5 quality?

MeteorPanda1h ago

the sadest thing on vita support for me was the removal of Close? The app that let you see local players and what they were playing. i made friends back in the day for co op that way lol.

I think it was privacy breaching? such a shame.

Skuletor58m ago

Vita had so much promise, I wonder what it would have taken for Sony to have been more supportive. GTA: San Andreas Stories would have probably brought more sales alone, if they could have gotten that. I was disappointed we never really got anything on the same level as Killzone: Mercenary after that game, which looked amazing running on the Killzone 3 engine. Would have loved to see new entries of PS IP like Infamous, God of War etc, Sony really dropped the ball and using proprietary memory cards that were ridiculously priced didn't help, if they were smart, they'd have sold them cheaper since they were mainly being used to store stuff people were paying for in their store anyway, lol.

There are no "thoughtful" ads in video games, EA

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

Hofstaderman18h ago

EA can thoughtfully eff themselves.

Makersbreath218h ago

EA coming back for the crown of being perceived as the worst company in gaming.

Chocoburger1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

One of my favorite series is the THPS franchise, and it was packed with ads, but it didn't bother me. Posters for skateboard companies, JEEP, and Nokia phones. It did sort of fit in with the game world, but that was the past, these days ad would be intentionally intrusive or unskippable loading screen type of imagery. Ugh, I know EA would do it in a horrible fashion. Screw them.
