Sad. Seems to be the end of Final Fantasy as we know it bring on the mediocre combat and open world crap fest. If you want a quality JRPG buy Persona 5 or Dragonquest XI, both will be far better then westernized fantasy.

LAWSON722665d ago

Gameplay is the most interesting aspect of the game, it is unique and different. Open world is the second best part, it is stunning and besides lacking unique questlines there are some awesome boss battles and experiences to be had in it. FFXV is a solid game on all fronts besides customization/unique unlocks and story

JokerBoy4222665d ago

I haven't enjoyed a Final Fantasy game this much since Final Fantasy X first came out! I didn't think I would like the new battle system or the open world but I was very wrong and I'm very happy that I was. This game deserves all the love and praise it can get!

Omnislashver362665d ago (Edited 2664d ago )

Solid game? I guess if you count an endless running, banter, and driving simulator a game... It seriously missed out on so much potential by focusing on fetchquests and ignoring lore respectively: Aranea and Cor being the OP characters didn't affect the story line Auron or Beatrix for their respective games. Luna got half a chapter, when more could have been done. Anemic on CG cutscenes. Cutscenes in general felt like the conversation was half over before they started, weak lore and storytelling. The Empire wasn't delved into like the enemies of any other FF. The Emporer and Ravus for instance didnt affect the story like Scarlette or Rufus in the Shinra Empire.

All in all I played 30% of a FF and was handed fetchquests and running/driver/banter simulation for the remaining 70℅ of the game. Seriously, like it wasn't obvious the map was made so needlessly large so that you'd spend more "game time" getting to a location rather than playing something contributing to the story. Yeah, like I really needed a 10 minute car ride to get more quality "game time". *Rolls eyes*

It was a 6/10 on a good day.

bouzebbal2664d ago

it was hard for me to dive in the game and enjoy it from the very beginning to be honest because i was completly lost due to the change of direction, but the game became much more interesting when i understood some of its new mechanics.
Let's not forget FF15 was supposed to be a spin-off, and it excells in this by giving another angle to the series.
Of course, i expect FF16 to be more traditional, especially with FF7 remake is more action oriented.

What!? Final fantasy 15 is awesome!!! Had a blast playing.
I didn't think I was going to like it that much but is one of the best game I played last year.

tyasia02665d ago

I agree.

Final Fetch Quest 15

ServerBOT2665d ago

Final Fantasy usually always had open world.

Steveoreno12665d ago

I agree majiebeast. Loved all previous ff except 13, but this was a horrible ff. I could go on forever about all the things I hated about 15. The only thing I liked was the creature designs. It's sad that the series that got me into turn based has sold its soul for first timers.

IamTylerDurden12665d ago

FFXV was the best FF in years and it has already sold a ton.

CrimsonWing692664d ago

Long time FF fan and I absolutely love FF15. Maybe it's time for you to let go of the series.

-Foxtrot2665d ago

Bang goes a return to turn based

-Foxtrot2665d ago

Not really.

Not saying the combat was shit in this but it's not like it was filled with as much strategy as turn base

Hell I got wait mode on in FFXV because it was better then the non stop action. I preferred thinking hard about my next move and what would be most effective on the enemy I was facing.

DiceAndRice2665d ago

When you look at the results though it makes you think it was for the best (not for yourself however). Kind of like Resident Evil 4 in a way.

Godmars2902665d ago

@DiceAndRice:
What's best for Square? Fans buying their product.

What good for fans, a decent if not good game with an engaging story, is as many state, is subjective.

For former fans like myself if not Foxtrot that Square can get away with selling games more on brand name than effort, just be fixated on appearance, that they can even put out unfinished work, is a very bad thing.

Harkins17212665d ago

This does not imply a no return to turn based gameplay.

DiceAndRice2665d ago

There's no need to return to it. This version sells better, so why go back to it?

-Foxtrot2665d ago (Edited 2665d ago )

DiceAndRice

If the game is good it will sell regardless

At it's core FFXV was just alright. The game was unfinished, rushed and missing so many crucial parts for character development and even story. The only thing which really helps it is the same old "Well it's better then FFXIII" line. Yet it still sold well because it's Final Fantasy

If the game is good and has turn base it will sell

JokerBoy4222665d ago

I'd love for -Foxtrot to explain how a game that was in development for a decade is a "rushed" game.

Godmars2902665d ago

@JokerBoy422:
it was never in development for ten years. It was more off and on, largely because the original FF14 was the unfinished it was. Just like FF13 was the unfinished - with enough material for two other games - it was.

Are you seeing the pattern here?

IamTylerDurden12665d ago

The combat was terrific, there will be smaller turn FF themed games.

Sunny_D2665d ago

I blame the millennial generation and their lack of focus on anything more than a few minutes.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI2665d ago

To be fair, it's not like Turn Based FF games were hard to begin with.

Godmars2902665d ago

I blame MMOs actually for presenting a story that's a few lines of text, fetch goals and a general atmosphere that has more in common with Office Space than anything fantasy related.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI2665d ago

Not really. You may not see a return to turn based or ATB from FF in a long time, however, clearly SE still cares about it given all the games they have that have some form of it that they publish. I Am Setsuna an d Dragon Quest come to mind for instance.

Godmars2902665d ago

Between this and Kingdom Hearts in general, goodbye any sense to narration.

Irishguy952665d ago

I guess they need to keep improving on the real time is all. Try and bring that strategy back, other A-RPGs have done it

Godmars2902665d ago

Name one.

Jumping into a fight with fire based monster while using fire based weapons?

Irishguy952665d ago

It depends on what you consider strategy,

I would see dark souls as more strategic than any FF.

ColonelHugh2664d ago

@godmars

Star Ocean 2 was a great action RPG that starts easy and gets methodical as the game goes on. Roughly 20 years ago by Enix.

Harkins17212665d ago

Okay now that they broke some records here's the chance to make it up to the fans by releasing the expansion with updated story, gameplay, and mechanics. If the Witcher 3 can do it so can XV.

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled21d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog153d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake153d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic151d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan152d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman153d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator153d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno152d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior153d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake153d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
