Review: Final Fantasy XV (PS4) - Push Square

Push Square: Final Fantasy XV is mostly a game about four guys driving around in a car. Sometimes, they get out and kill monsters. Other times, they don't want to drive at night and seek shelter around a nearby campfire, where they look over photographs and recall their journey so far.

Haven't beaten the game yet. I'm in chapter 14. Love the game with the exception of nearly all of ch.13 (except for that boss fight at the end of it). The end of the game shoots itself in the foot by taking away the best part of the game - the world. I think am 8 is fair.

goldwyncq2707d ago

Storywise, I thought the last 6 chapters were the best and the closest to classic final fantasy. It easily pushed the game from an 8 to a 9 for me.

bouzebbal2707d ago

what annoys me the most is the loading screens everytime i have to go back to the car etc...

Summons752707d ago

I agree and disagree. Sure the story gets more focused toward the end but the plot is picking up. They don't take the world away from you seeing as you have umbra to let you go back to the open world at any point. It's a fair balance. Chapter 13 was pretty bad, though like you said the boss right was great and I also like the world building that it brings if you find the notes around the place to tell you exactly what has been going on behind the scenes while you were in the open world. Like goldwyncq said, the last 6 chapters are pretty great. I really enjoyed the final boss fight too and the ending just had me in tears. 8 is very fair though.

Lionalliance2707d ago

I understand some of the problems of Chapter 13, but i think it wasn't that bad, though the boss fight was awesome.

slappy5082707d ago (Edited 2707d ago )

Agreed I hated chapter 13.chapter 15 more than makes up for it though. I was glad to see all those missions post game go up for me those dungeons are awesome. Only 1 more trophy to go for my platinum (it's the 1 to get Gladiolus survival skill to Lvl 10,tedious AF!)

Summons752707d ago

I'm struggling with the fishing. It's just as boring as fishing in real life with the added frustration of the line breaking in half a second.

slappy5082707d ago

@Summons if you buy the best rod and reel at the fishing shop by Vesspool it makes fishing a whole lot easier and more enjoyable

moegooner882707d ago

What was special about the boss fight ? I thought it was average. Had more interesting ones with hunts.

JoeDG2707d ago

Same. some of the high level Hunts and Dungeon Bosses fights was better.

My Score to. My problem with the game were the boring side tasks without story and the one no heavy decisions had to meet. A game like on rails. The combat system was also rather badly by the camera and the magic had little more meaning, as well as that I could only play one character. Come on guys we have 2016 and I run with 3 other companions. This can not be so difficult. 45 h Lvl 72

Gemmol2707d ago

Boring task bring the game to a 5 for me, even with the highs I cannot Recommend doing this game over and doing those task over, so its a game you beat and just put away or sell

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled24d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog156d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake156d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic155d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan156d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman156d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator156d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno156d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior156d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake156d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
