Being a fan of this game ever since it was first shown off as versus 13, i agree. All the changes to the game during the 10 years to what it is today really dissapoints me. Story is just bad including a ton of other things. Noctis being less badass and the more important and stornger Stella replaced by Luna compared to versus. Wish Nomura stayed as director and finished this game to what it could have been. I could go on and on...the game itself isn't terrible, just the story.

MRMagoo1232714d ago (Edited 2713d ago )

there is soooooo many cons in the game compared to pros I find it hard to believe how many high scores it actually received. it is nothing like a final fantasy game and I really have concerns for the ff7 remaster now. luckily I still have all the original ff games at home to play when I want to feel that final fantasy feeling again.

the only worse main ff game in my opinion is ff13

edit: @oreo

since ff6 ....wow such a hard core ff fan I guess I better take your own opinion over my own after completing the game /sarcasm

I have been a fan of ff games since day 1 I even named my daughter Rinoa and I don't think this game should even have final fantasy in the title no matter what you say.

DeadlyOreo2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Nope. You're completely wrong. Been a fan of FF since FF6 and I love this game. Very well made.

Omnislashver362714d ago

I don't even like you MRMagoo and I can agree. This game is not what I expected.

DafunkyRebel2713d ago

No you retard this game is probably the best one yet. The other ones like 7 and 10 didn't even have that good of a story, if you replayed them you'd realize that it was mostly because of good writing and characters that made those games great which is what this game does too. After The Last of Us came out, reviewers have this f'ed up conceptions of video game stories and grading scale. They put that game as a standard and now all games that came after it are screwed over.

Irishguy952714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Disagree, you don't even know what Versus woulda been. Or Stella. Just guessing and giving Nomura a free pass. This games story was fine, even great in the end. The plot especially. The storytelling itself wasn't great...for the most part, some parts were great. Missing content is also an issue. As far as...I guess, the main story, it was great. For example, this would be...FF7 Cloud and sephiroth. Their story. Except Noctis is obvious more important to the plot.
Luna...was also...very important? I mean, Luna and Noct are the most important characters aside the main villain.

Omnislashver362714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

I disagree. Stella's styling and facing off with Noctis gives it away. She would have been a frenemy instead of a housewife. There's so much they could have done with that concept, even in FFXV as it is, they could have done the game the exact same but just changed up that one aspect by making her under the influence of her brother. Perfect. Plus Stella's way hotter IMO.

That said, I think the game should have kept the KH-system as well. Tabata had no business turning this into a pure hack and slash. The KH-system still has magic menus, heavy block, lock-on, and from what we've seen, less needlessly open world and good cutscene balance. Luminous was built with Tabata's open-world vision in mind instead of building on Nomura's systems, so it's pretty, it's needlessly big, and it's battle mechanics are pretty much shite.

I'll admit Nomura didn't have much of a game- but Tabata didn't have to destroy what Nomura made to fix it is my point.

Skankinruby2714d ago

Wow this is the exact opposite of every person I've talked to. No pleasing everyone I guess

Omnislashver362714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

You can take a quick look around the net and find alot of us who are disappointed. It's needlessly open world- it's lore is so short it could be considered a fetchquest(a cutscene will start and it'll seem like half the conversation's already over), and fetchquest type progression in general really killed it for me. I mean, I usually leave, smoke a cig, make a sandwich, etc, when driving around because it takes so damn long to get anywhere. It's basically a driving WRPG with an anime coat.

And the battle system. WTF. The KH-system is so much more FF-esque as I've said in comments above. This game is pure hack and slash.

Ogygian2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Final Fantasy is not about the gameplay. It has never been about the gameplay.

It has always been about three things:

1. The exploration + interesting world
2. The music
3. The cheesy and cliched yet endearing stories

I've played FF4, FF6, FF9, FF10, FF10-2, and FF13 within the past few years, and in my opinion, these are what make the games so fun.

The combat has always sucked, and this has been the case since I first played FF9 as a kid. Hack and slash is much more enjoyable (hence why so many people love Dynasty Warriors and The Witcher 3).

JRPGs cannot be restricted by ancient combat systems. Remember that WRPGs used to be essentially turn based as well (Baldur's Gate and co). FFXV is an important step forward for the Japanese games industry, and I think mindless nostalgia is causing many people to treat it unfairly.

Omnislashver362714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

@spartan

I never said it was about turn-based. But all FF have had magic menus up until now, and they could have used the KH-system for magic as well as better battle mechanics. All FF since tech has advanced have had cutscenes with heavy lore. This doesn't. You start a cutscene and it seems like the conversation is already over with. I never expected I'd play a FF game where it literally takes 10-15 minutes to drive somewhere for a damn quest. And shitty/short battle mechanics.

FFXV is a terrible step for Final Fantasy. FFVIIR I'm hoping will pick up the slack by going back to the KH-system, bringing magic/magic menus, customization, spell boosting, more than 4 summons, better ARPG battle mechanics, more informative cutscenes, less fetch-quest type progression and more narrative-based progression. I mean, in FFXV, STORY-based cutscenes are so short they seem like WRPG fetchquests. It's terrible, and shows how weak of a story they have.

zidane13412714d ago

@spartanlemur: the gameplay always sucked? Well that's your opinion and a sucky one at that. It's not the number one jrpg because of shitty gameplay. They have always been great until xiii

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled25d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog157d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake157d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic155d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan156d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman157d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator157d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno156d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior157d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake157d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
