Final Fantasy XV Worldwide Sales Top Five Million, Fastest-Selling Title in the Series

Final Fantasy XV, which launched worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Tuesday, November 29, has sold five million copies, Square Enix announced.

RpgSama2704d ago

I hope it's true, but on the article it says shipped, not sold, I want the best for this brand, hope it eventually sells 10+ millions and keep improving on this formula.

ShadowKnight2704d ago

I guess everyone likes the new formula and game play instead of the turn based game play. Tbh it didn't matter to me I like both formulas

raWfodog2704d ago

When you google-translate the Square Enix announcement:

"Square Enix (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President: Yosuke Matsuda, following Square Enix), the game software were all simultaneously released worldwide on November 29, 2016 (Tuesday), "Final Fantasy XV" ( compatible models: PlayStation®4 / sales of One Xbox) * 1 is, I will inform you that it has topped 500 million copies in the first day of sale. This is the fastest of the record, even in the "Final Fantasy" series of history."

500 million copies?!? It's over 9000!! :)

kevnb2704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

@ShadowKnight
i think turn based could have worked, but the combat isnt the only part of the gameplay. The gameplay consists of the leveling system, the exploration, the locations to discover and everything you actually do in the game.. overall it feels more like some of the older games despite the combat changes.
Fans of the series want to get lost in these games and their worlds, final fantasy xv does a good job at this and doesnt just rely on the story line like final fantasy 13 did.
Lets not forget that they marketed this game well, Im confident that it will sell at least 10 million copies.

_-EDMIX-_2704d ago

Shipped to the retail actually means sold, retail buys copies of games.

nix2704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

Digitally pre ordered this and The Last Guardian. Best week ever.

And congrats Square Enix.

bouzebbal2704d ago

Haha nice, thanks to Ps4.
Ff16 confirmed !!! Jrpg is going nowhere

blackblades2704d ago

They also said digital as well.

Dark_Knightmare22704d ago

Yeah but to square Enix that's sold to them they made their money. Also they wouldn't ship that many to retailers if there wasn't demand so this is pretty impressive.

LAWSON722704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

I hope they continue making games they want to make, rather than forcing the plot to make sense around a required open world formula. I am all for maybe a few sequels/spin offs that think they can add to the experience and keep us entertained while we wait for something totally new and fresh.

Nu2704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

I agree it's false information. I bought this game but in a way I hope it's a flop so that the series returns to the traditional turned based style.
Square Enix pumped so much cash into this it's ridiculous.

Muzikguy2704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

I hope that future releases aren't all open world. Just hope they mix it up instead of sticking to one thing.

@Shadow

I bought FFXV and the new battle formula is my biggest complaint. The game itself is all right, I just wanted to point out that not everyone likes it. I don't

@kevn

Ff13 had a story? I must have misssd that 😄 Seriously though, I believe people want to get lost in the gaming world of FF too. It's nice to see this in XV

Slowbro2704d ago

Alright I'll be the asshole and say that it's only 5 million shipped not sold

Noxrest2704d ago

Retailers don't get copies for free you know?

Dark_Knightmare22704d ago

Doesn't matter that's sold to square Enix they got their money.

Ulf2704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

That means they are sold -- what they eventually have to set the price at, to sell them, is still a factor, but those games ARE sold.

Retail doesn't get a free pass to pass the expense of unsold merchandise back to the manufacturer. They place an order, they sell it. There is risk involved. No free lunch.

Some money may change hands, due to contractual obligations regarding price control, but the games are still sold.

Yes, that's good news. I'll definitely pick up a copy next year.
Even though World of Fnal Fantasy hasn't gotten stellar reviews, I'm still enjoying it.

vega2752704d ago

I couldn't wait so i bought the game on X1 and i got to say. As a long time fan of final Fantasy. This one is my next favorite behind FF7.

Irishguy952704d ago

I need me some Kalkano so I can lick his tears. Haw haw. Nah, really enjoying the game so far though. My favorite part of the game are dungeons so far

Genuine-User2704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

Wow! That's great :)

Steveoreno12704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

Sigh....... there goes my dream that it will go back to turn based.

FF 15 summons: 4
FF 7 summons: 16

FF 15 limit breaks: 1
FF 7 limit breaks: 52

Blade15872704d ago

quantity doesnt equal quality. its obvious that the ff15 summons took alot more work to accomplish. besides, you say you want it to go back to turn based, but then use the number of summons and limit breaks like being turn based or action has anything to do with the amount of summons the game has

Noxrest2704d ago

you are missing the point, FFVII and FFXV are enourmously different games, everybody can do that:

FFVII Recipes: 0
FFXV Recipes: 50+

FFXV sidequest: 100+
FFVII sidequest: 30+

See?

Steveoreno12704d ago

Maybe if they spent a couple more years on it they could have made more summons. I don't know about you, but I like variety. I don't want to see the same limit break the whole game.

Irishguy952704d ago

Yeah, but...like...the difference is you are interacting with the limit break, also argubly Armiger is not the limit break. Use warp strike with each royal arm, they are all different 'looking'. Since you want different looking limit brreaks, I mean the result is the same..different levels of numbers taken away from the enemies health.

Also, summons in this game are more focused on, because..they're central to the plot. But whatever. I don't mind turn based like I love the old FF's. But..theres a good reason the old FF's had quantity. Its nice seeing Ramuh stand over the battlefield imo. The summons are even more of a story thing than a use in battle for FFXV.

I'm honestly surprised. Everything turned out pretty well, even the game.

Hats off to you. You're now officially recognized as an adult. It's okay to be wrong but much more amazing is to acknowledge it.

That's said. I'm really happy to hear sales are good. Still need to get my copy.

Exvalos2704d ago

Man of you to admit when your wrong, but man nobody expected it to sell this well

_-EDMIX-_2704d ago (Edited 2704d ago )

I did.

I've been telling you guys this for a very long time that this is probably going to be the best selling Final Fantasy game in history for a multitude of reasons.

One of the biggest reasons was Final Fantasy 13 moved 8 million units despite lots of fans sort of not liking the game, whereas last generation it was clear there was actually more interest for Final Fantasy 13 vs then there was for Final Fantasy 13.

We only know the sales of Final Fantasy 13 from people who purchased it brand new we do not know the sales of people who purchased it used or borrowed it from a friend meaning the install days of Final Fantasy fans is much higher than a recorded number from sales.

I predicted the same thing for grand theft auto 5 to surpass san andreas by a ridiculous amount not just because there was a bunch of a new grand theft auto fans, simply because there was a lot of undocumented grand theft auto fans, I remember reading somewhere that san andreas was on the top 10 for best selling GameStop games used for almost years..

Which actually means there's more people that actually played and loved san andreas then was ever recorded which actually ment Grand Theft Auto V could absolutely top San Andreas sales literally within weeks.

If you add that formula to Final Fantasy 15 you only need a very small millions to surpass Final Fantasy 13 in just a little bit more to become the best selling Final Fantasy game in the world, before a PC release mind you.

Fallout 4 sold 12 million units in a single week despite Fallout 3 not selling that.

edit. LOLZ, cry babies can disagree, its fine....I called it folks. You guys need to legit stop trying to guess DOOM based on your PERSONAL hate. MORE then enough were raving about FFXV to see it was going to break records. It only needs to sell a small amount MORE then FFXIII just to break that record and I saw that happening really, really easily. Not because I like it....because ENOUGH liked it. You folks exaggerated this game's shortcomings to a absurd degree. Its well on its way to crushing FF records, before a PC release, before a price cut. They are well on their way to surpass FFVII in sales.

cash_longfellow2704d ago

To call yourself wrong and post a link to it is super classy...you win N4G for the day my friend.

_-EDMIX-_2704d ago

I mean respect for acknowledging it most people on here would not.

It's simply a guess.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI2704d ago

This might be the shipped number, but nonetheless it is funny that it was right on the money lol

Good , now keep working on it SE. Iron out the kinks.

no_more_heroes2704d ago

yeah, kinks like "why the feather-dust is the stamina bar both off by default and not integrated into the character HP/MP UI?"

Mr-Dude2704d ago

Or why are their some words not fully translates in JP dub?

cartoonx12704d ago

there are still frame pacing issues on ps4/pro they really need to figure it out, from eurogamer's analysis it seems its worst thn bloodborne.

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog143d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake143d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic141d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan142d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman143d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator143d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno142d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior143d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake143d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
