Final Fantasy 15 PS4 vs PS4 Pro Comparison Shows Differences In Foliage, Filtering, & More

It looks like Final Fantasy 15 will be one of those games that truly benefit from the PS4 Pro's extra power.

Now this makes my PS4 Pro worth every penny. Pretty marked difference

Artemidorus2716d ago

Pure trolling the differences are small

2716d ago
Bansai2716d ago

I wouldn't even pay 50 bucks to exchange my current ps4 if the benefits were that small.

ps5fanboy2716d ago

Yeah, pretty big I agree , cannot wait to get my pro dude.

CrimsonPheonix2716d ago

If you posted 2 of the same image and said one of them was pro some of these dorks would still be commenting "OMG Massive Difference!"

GoldPunch-TR2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

1.84TFLOPS vs 4.20TFLOPS. And look at this minimal differences. Kind of disappointment.

starrman19852716d ago

Gotta admit, I was thinking the same. Not trying to troll here, I think the PS4 Pro is great but this just seems a bit sloppy! A bump in resolution would have been nicer (it doesn't seem to be higher resolution) just slightly more/higher textures.

Sm00thNinja2716d ago

It's 1080p 60fps and 4k 30 if you desire. This isn't a lazy port or sloppy by any means

GNCFLYER2716d ago

Well get there guys. Engines need changed up a bit and devs really need to suck the power out of this.

Team Ice, ND, and GG should really showcase the power of this thing.

starrman19852716d ago

I presume the screens I have seen aren't 4k then? That's better at least! I just found slightly more foliage and some increased textures a pretty lazy way to utilise 2.5x the power.

Ju2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

But this runs a higher resolution - even 1080p renders higher internally, hence SSA.

It's so funny, that we compare the results in down sampled "lowres" and complain that we can's see a difference. Of course not if that's meant to be played on a 4K screen... (or higher than 1080p).

MaximusTKG2716d ago

Do you not see the difference in reflections and lighting? Just take a look at the water on the last picture. Step 1: Open eyeballs. Step 2: Use said eyeballs.

Clunkyd2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

Let see, Xbox One 1TB is $350, PS4 Pro is $400. Just look at Xbox One's FF15 performance and you'll laugh compared to the $50 difference on the Pro.

man the game was built with the original ps4/X1 in mind and just add extra stuff for the pro, if a game was built from the ground up on the pro @1080p 30FPS it would look like watch dogs E3 2012 or the witcher 2013

jwillj2k42716d ago

every game will be built with the original ps4 in mind. same goes for the scorpio.

ShadowKnight2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

A gtx 1080 8.9TFLOPS vs gtx 1070 6.4 TFLOPS is a minimal difference too. So What's your point? 🤔

A gtx 980 has 4.61 teraflops and it's a minimal difference compared to the gtx 970

http://www.techradar.com/ne...

@ Pathogenic I never said anything about SLI configuration or SLI comparison🤔🤔

Pathogenic2716d ago

You do realize this is about Final Fantasy XV and PS4 and the Pro? Why are you bringing GPU's in here when this game hasn't been announced for PC yet? BTW this review article was done before the launch of those high end graphics cards. I own two Gtx 1080's and the benchmarks say that both of these in SLI would destroy the 1070's in SLI apart in performance. Actually wait it has already been proven. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Jump to 9:00 minutes to see the results. Notice how one stock 1080 FE can blow away two 1070's in SLI. Sorry but your misinformed.

XStation4pio_Pro2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

ha. the differences are huge especially on higher rez screens. antialiasing takes huge amounts of processing which is why it always sucks on consoles (except the ps4 pro). using better texture filtering leaves things crystal clear (especially on a 4k screen). More draw distance, less texture popping, smoother frames rates and waaaay better shadows are all things i've experienced since i got my pro and played it firsthand on my 4k. Theres more difference here than in ps4/xbox one screens and EVERYBODY thinks those differences are HUUUUGE!. lol. this site. so much spin.

I got so used to playing battlefield One on PS4 Pro that when I played it on a base ps4 at my friends house it felt grainy and decidedly lower fidelity. i was actually surprised at how used to the differences you become.

Christopher2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

They're nothing major, but it's a convenience fee like a person buying a new GPU or the like. The game is still the same.

This is why I'm sticking with my PS4 and XBO until I get a 4k TV. Really just no real reason for it now and I'm really happy with the graphics I've been experiencing on the base hardware.

Edit: I will say, though, don't expect titles at release to be the norm going forward. I'm certain 2017 titles, let alone exclusive titles, will truly show some big improvements from PS4 to PS4 Pro. It just takes time and, unlike a new console generation, there is no drive from developers to meet those metrics now when the 40m+ players are still on older hardware. When PS4 Pro sells more than 5m, then they'll start taking it a bit more seriously.

gangsta_red2716d ago

Agreed, the differences with these games are very minimal and not yet worth the upgrade or even an urgency to get a 4k TV at the moment.

And even with the graphics appearing great on consoles, a lot of those games are still not offering the new or fun experiences that I had from last gen.

GNCFLYER2716d ago

I'm spacing those purchases out a bit. Already have my pro (just not unwrapped) and probably get my 4k 65 inch tax time.

As for ps4 hardware your right. Games like uc4 and driveclub are astonishingly good looking for a 1.84 TF machine. There were PC guys at gaf picking they're jaws up off the floor when weather effects hit DC.

So were hitting a point of its not how much power your machine has its what you do with it.

LamerTamer2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

You don't need a 4K TV to see the difference. I use my Pro on a Sony Bravia TV that is only 1080p . I used the Tomb Raider game to change settings to test them. When I set game option to 4K the image is much sharper. Bits of branches and fine detail that would res-out and disappear in the distance on the 1080p setting get filled in on the 4K setting. I didn't expect it really. It almost makes a 1080p TV look 4K (even though I know it isn't). It doesn't just soften jaggies but actually adds sub-pixel detail. It does sound like BS but you need to test it to believe it yourself, the PQ is definitely better and crisper looking on games (Skyrim, Ratchet and Clank etc) that render at a higher "4K" res and then downsample to 1080p.

That being said for that game I choose the added graphic effects over 4K as I think that is more noticeable to me. I would prefer better effects and/or frame rate at 1080p native if I had a choice, but the "4K" rendering is nice even on a 1080p TV..

Artemidorus2716d ago

Give it time it will improve, can't the pro crowd just accpet it's not worth the 350 yet?

LamerTamer2716d ago

The "pro crowd" wouldn't buy the Pro if they didn't think it was worth it... It is not like they don't know what to expect by now.

Errorist762716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

I guess that's why it's sold out everywhere in Europe and Japan.. 350 is an insane value for what you get.

Artemidorus2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

They already pretend the 4k is just like 4k when it isn't.

They pretend there are major differences when let's be honest it's small.

Sounds like they are trying to justify an extra 350 purchase that isn't needed right now.

Cryptcuzz2716d ago

Accept what? I'm part of the PS4 Pro crowd and I don't need a nobody that doesn't even have said product to tell me what's acceptable or not. I do have one and my reason for wanting the Pro is more than acceptable -thank you very much. Games like; Ratchet and Clank, seeing FFXV Judgement Disc in the higher graphic mode, Titanfall 2, and Uncharted 4 -to a name a few I've been enjoying on the Pro, I would rather not play on any other console than the Pro.

jwillj2k42716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

The same thing will happen to the scorpio. Parity is a bitch. They are not going to have 2 independent dev cycles. They will make the game for the base model, and the premium model upgrades will be an afterthought.

I have a pro and a 4k tv. But Ill say If you have a 1080p tv, get a 4k tv that will upscale the video. You do not need the pro. If you do not have a ps4, buy the pro.

GTgamer2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

What do you guys expect from devs especially for a game whose development was already so far along smh.

Altovoltage2716d ago

You people keep forgetting that developers just got the system not too long ago and like every new system it takes time for developers to get the hang of them 🙄

tikogamer20162716d ago

I kinda agree, same game with minimal improvements, DF did a nice analysis on this one, they praised the HDR implementation though, but in the end it is not a game changer, we are looking at the very same thing just a little prettier

DemonChicken2716d ago

They are still working on the pro patch which is due out Dec time. So the optimisation is not final.

Pathogenic2716d ago

Just 10 more days until we get to play this. I played every Final Fantasy title from VII - XIV. I watched the prequel to FFXV which is KingsGlaive and I'm trying my best not to click on any links.

Sm00thNinja2716d ago

Kingsglaive was a much higher production quality movie than I was expecting. Definitely was impressed even if some of the voice acting was cringe worthy

Pathogenic2716d ago

I actually enjoyed this right alongside Final Fantasy VII| Advent Children. I get what you are saying about the voice acting though.

Sm00thNinja2716d ago

Yeah that one fat guy I forget his name that joined that resistance group he was really bad

Goldby2716d ago

Libertus Ostium

that was some weird Voice Acting for sure, everything else fit

joethetimelord2716d ago

@Goldby
Seconded. The only notably bad performances were Libertus and Crowe. The big names all did well and didn't feel like they were phoning in their performances, and Darin De Paul was fantastic as Ardyn.

Goldby2712d ago

@Joe,

I actually feel like Aaron Paul should put more focus in the VA area, he was excellent in the movie and i think he could definfitly learn some from the Masters, Mercer, North and Baker

FullmetalRoyale2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

Did you watch the anime? For me, it changed my perception most of the main cast(which was low before). I genuinely found it enjoyable, which really surprised me. I didn't think it'd ever like Prompto! ;)

Imalwaysright2716d ago

You should play FF6. Many consider it the best in the franchise.

Kurisu2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

I wish I had a Pro and a 4KTV but judging from the Judgment Disc demo that I played on Xbox One the standard PS4 version should look and play just fine!

Pathogenic2716d ago

At least you can say that you will be playing the game right? I think regardless of the differences we can all agree that this is the game that will define RPG's for this generation of consoles.

Kurisu2716d ago

Exactly! I've been waiting for this game for long enough so I'll just be glad to finally have it in my hands after all these years!

LoveSpuds2716d ago

Dont get me wrong, I am excited for FF but I think its going to have to go some to beat Witcher 3 for that title. I hope you are right though buddy, excited to play it for sure.

dennigo2716d ago

i have a pro, so keep that in mind as you read this.

there's a video on youtube comparing the differences. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

now there are 2 settings on pro for 4k, high and light. i don't think they show it on 1080p on pro, they do show it 1080p on normal ps4.

high settings look like 25 frames per second so i don't think i'll be using that.

JoeDG2716d ago

The 4k light version looks very good. Will try both

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled10d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog142d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake142d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic141d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan142d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman142d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator142d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno142d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior142d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake142d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
