With the Gaming market seeing an uprise in implementing HDR, TV manufacturers have bumped up their displays to support these technologies and provide customers with the best display experience.

Hahaha, I wanted one of those OLED 4k TV's and actually didn't buy only because of input lag. They have my sign for this :D

Godz Kastro2739d ago

How can you sign up if u don't have one

nX2739d ago

Ehhh... I would buy one if they fix the input lag? So hard to understand?

Princess_Pilfer2739d ago

@nX it's really not. Input lag is exactly what it sounds like, the time it takes for the image sent to the screen to actually display on screen. There are factors other than just the TV, but it can be tested on TVs specifically. Anything above 50ms (that is .04 or .05 of a second) is bad, at that point you're getting into the range where you'll actually be able to feel the delays, especially when you add in the *extra* input lag of the games current framerate. At 30FPS that's another .03 seconds btw. It won't feel like a big pause or anything, it will just make everything feel sticky.)

HDR just means more colors.

indysurfn2738d ago (Edited 2738d ago )

LG should be concerned for future purchasers so... Anyway also wanted to buy a 8999 OLED LG but I figured I could save 5500 and get a 3499 Samsung that only had a 23ms delay. Glad I made that decision.

IamTylerDurden12739d ago

Roommate has 55 in 4k OLED and it's fantastic.

PGRfox2739d ago

God, gamers are so entitled. OLED's are NOT responsive by nature. Do some damn research first!!

Korix2739d ago

Is that why both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift use highly responsive OLED displays?
You should do some research as well. OLED can be used for high end gaming if done right. LG just can't be bothered, it seems.

ninsigma2739d ago

Or, just maybe they made an oled tv without gaming in mind??

Thatguy-3102739d ago (Edited 2739d ago )

Like the guy said do some research before buying something. You can't blame LG for not making a TV with gaming in mind. Nothing but entitled individuals that feel they call the shots on these things. The individual is the one to blame simply because they purchase things uninformed.

livedeht2739d ago

Vice and rift are led... psvr is oled

zivtheawesome2739d ago

@livedeht
they are all using OLED actually.

PGRfox2739d ago

I did my research thanks, which is why I went with Samsungs LED. It doesn't take much to find a response time for a TV. In fact the first review I pulled up mentioned OLED poor response time. These gamers are morons and made a poor decision and now want their money back? Give me a break

MyDietEqualsGames2739d ago

People need to do the research. I remember when we didn't have most questions answered by a search bar.
No excuse and no need to feel sorry for someone making an uninformed purchase, unless they are truly naive then I digress.

IamTylerDurden12739d ago (Edited 2739d ago )

It's hdr that causes lag. This TV has a jaw dropping display. OLED + HDR + 4k = stunning. If you are a competitive mp fan you can turn off hdr and motion flo to dramatically improve input lag. A great connection/hardlined into your console will also balance you out in mp. Decide what type of gamer you are. Do you want the most stunning tech and visuals, or do you want to every tiny competitive advantage you can get in order to be atop the leader boards?

I game for immersion and fun, not to get the most trophies or be the number 1 Cod player.

SoundGamer2739d ago

@IamTylerDurden136m Bingo. I don't play fighters or competitive FPS' so I really don't care. I saw that input lag was worse than other TV's with the OLED's but since it really only matters to those type of gamers, I didn't care. I got the OLED and it's the best freaking TV I've ever laid my eyes on.

Ausbo2739d ago

I'm glad I know this now, since I was considering this purchase

ninsigma2739d ago

Research is so important when it comes to tvs. Especially if you're looking for a 4k one to go with the pro.

OpenGL2739d ago

OLED is by nature the most responsive display technology we've used other than Plasma. If it's got input lag issues it's because the display controllers and other hardware used in the TV is bad, not because OLED is bad.

MyDietEqualsGames2739d ago

Entitled for wanting a feature in what is considered one of the best brands on the market, today? You know.. so they can throw money at the manufacturer?

n1kki62739d ago

Normally I would agree. But in the case of HDR and input lag the numbers are not always easy to find. In addition these numbers are not provided from the manufacturer, as well as the ability for them to change depending on firmware update. One could also assume that a $2000 - $4000 tv should certainly accommodate for gamers consider gaming consoles are the primary driver of HDR and 4k content at the moment even if it's upscaled. Instead of being up front about performance the manufacters have hid behind marketing jargon, very similar to 240hz refresh rates.

Castus2738d ago

That's not true.

I have an OLED55E6.

Firstly: The OLED's have actually the highest response time of 0.1. Generally the big LED's etc, are higher to around 8 ms or so. I mention this because you're mistaking responsive and input lag I think.

secondly: The input lag is my screen is actually 34 ms in game mode. This is why I bought the TV, as this was acceptable. However it was hard to discover that when you play something in HDR, it leaves the game mode and turns on HDR mode.

So basically it has nothing to do with doing research as most people bought the TV knowing it would do 34 ms in game mode.

Thet petition is basically about adding game mode to the HDR mode.

Articuno762739d ago

Would be nice if more TV manufacturers also considered making panels that work well for gaming.

And on that note, where is Freesync in TVs? Heck, why hasn't Sony at least made their own version of it to work between Sony TVs and PlayStation 4?

InMyOpinion2739d ago (Edited 2739d ago )

A lot of them do. Some work for both, some are designed more for gaming and some more for movies. Why not research it yourself before buying? Can't blame the manufacturers on this one.

LightofDarkness2739d ago

I have a B6 and the input lag isn't really perceptible to me. The pixel response is less than 0.1ms so there's no real need for there to be lag much higher than that, once you forego a good deal of image processing. But lag between your controller and console, console and TV is already well over 160-200ms, the extra 30-40 isn't going to spoil your experience too much more.

thexmanone2739d ago

Agreed I have the C6, the few games that the Xbox one S does support with HDR, I have no problems with.

Stwert2739d ago

Yeah I've got the C6 too and I don't notice the lag. It's not made a difference in game anyway. I was well aware of the higher lag of the screen before I bought it. I also tried it out first and it was fine. Of course if you sacrifice HDR you can cut the lag time in half, so it's odd that they haven't enabled it for HDR as well.

I've still got my Samsung (which was a top of the range one) the OLED is replacing and playing the same game on each feels no different to me so I've no complaints.

Rimfro2739d ago (Edited 2739d ago )

Exactly. If you compare reviews on rtings.com, you'll see that they are middle of the pack in HDR, and while the C6 isn't the fastest outside of HDR, it's faster than average. My C6 is faster than the plasmas I've owned, and is slightly faster than the non-HDR Sony 4K I just upgraded from. This is a total non-issue.

nyctophilia132739d ago

I have the E6 and what people don't seem to understand is that when the TV goes into HDR mode, like when firing up Uncharted 4, you can only select 3 picture modes on the TV: HDR Vivid, HDR Bright, and HDR Standard. Each one of these lets you change its settings, where you can tweak it to make the input lag way better. For starters, each one of these HDR picture modes has TruMotion turned on. Switching that off alone improves the lag greatly, then you can turn off settings like noise reduction to eek out any extra milliseconds. I've done this and my PS4 Pro looks stunning and responsive in HDR.

thexmanone2739d ago

No it dose not, I have the C6 with no problems. Do you even have a OLED tV?

Pancit_Canton2739d ago

No, but I have a PSvita that uses an OLE Display.

Ricegum2739d ago

Completely disagree. I have a 4k HDR LG and it's lovely for games and only set me back £500. LG do have gaming in mind with certain televisions which is why they use a feature called HDR Pro which allows for HDR and no suffering for response time.

This article doesn't apply to my LG tv at least.

Disruptor PS1, a pre Goldeneye console FPS from 1996 (with Command and Conquer type FMV cutscenes) and the first game by a pre Spyro Insomniac Studios directed by Mark Cerny. A good game for its time, and pre Bioshock use of telekinesis type powers. A game sadly almost completely lost to time

PrimeVinister36d ago

I have never even heard of it, so that must be a deep cut. Sounds really interesting and I might dig it out :-)

PrimeVinister36d ago

@Cacabunga A classic, no doubt. But, fondly remembered by many.

Cacabunga36d ago

First one was so good but second one on another level!!!
Still hoping to see a next gen version..

PrimeVinister36d ago

@Cacabunga Yeah, I preferred II for the real-timier combat. I would love to see both remade or remastered.

on_line_forever36d ago

We need to bring back the golden era of ps1 & ps2 .
We need to see quality games developed with alot of passion to make gamers satisfied .
We need to benefit from new AI technology to bring something new to games something like " nemesis systems " that used in shadow of morder and upgrade it to next level

PrimeVinister36d ago

The economics of games has changed a lot since the PS1 and PS2. As much as I would love a return to those days, it's not not at all likely.
