Fox announced Buffy MMOG and quietly attempts to slide this by in the same press release as 'related news.' It seems Whedon and Fox don't want him focusing on his other property but on the vampire slaying cash cow.
Firefly Online boasts a large number of the original cast of Firefly as voice actors for their game. These include Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk. Create a captain, a ship, and a crew then explore the verse and try youe best to keep your ship in the sky. Browncoats unite as the game comes to PC, Mac, iOS, and Android with cross-platform play.
Podcasting is a beautiful thing. Every once in a while, when a group of friends gets together on a weekly basis to talk about videogames, a phrase gets uttered that is so silly – so ridiculous – that it just has to be the title of the show.
On this week’s Pixelitis Podcast, the phrase that stuck out had to do with male genitalia. Which in hindsight, is pretty much par for the course. We won’t say who says it, but it was bad enough that it kinda derailed the show for a hot minute.
When Andrew Martins, Karen Rivera and Tom Farndon aren’t dicking around on this show this week, they managed to talk about more Xbox rumors, a Firefly MMO hoax and same-sex lovin’ in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Firefly fans may soon get a video game to call their own. The Facebook page for the MMO Firefly Universe Online has been relaunched with a promise for a Kickstarter campaign. Are fans' hopes about to be crushed again, or is the game actually coming out?
As much as I love Firefly, I doubt it'll be a long term success as an MMO.
I want it to succeed, but the MMO market is in transition right now. WoW is the only 'big winner', with the rest fighting over scraps. When a high quality Star Wars MMO from one of the worlds most renowned devs is struggling, then realistically what chance does another Sci-Fi MMO have?
Good luck to them.
.
This is the best show to ever get cancelled. It would be perfect as an mmo. We need a great scifi mmo since swg is a let down. Someone should get on this project now. Buffy cant hold a candle to this shows potential.
Why has Firefly had such a rough ride? A great TV show cancelled after 1 series. A pretty good film to tie up the loose ends, but could really have done with a sequel (or two).
And now the MMORPG gets 'delayed' (and in all likelihood cancelled). The potential of the game is obvious to anyone who ever watched the show.
Ah well. Fingers crossed the Warhammer 40k MMORPG turns out OK, or maybe Stargate MMORPG (although less interested in this one.)
The world seriously needs a top quality Sci-Fi MMORPG (or at least I do!!)
On the other hand, the world also needs a really good horror MMORPG; but I have a feeling Buffy will not be it! (I'm thinking it'll be more like an MMO Sims crossed with Guild Wars for some reason - Public areas like The Bronze or Sunnydale High - and Graveyard, underground instances!)
But what about the "Emily's Reasons Why Not" MMO? Is that still coming?
Considering the Show (witch was EXCELLENT btw, Movie was greeat too) got canceled few years back ?
