Game of Thrones is considered by many to be a modern day fantasy masterpiece. Why hasn't its success translated into the video game world?

Because then it wouldn't be game of thrones...it would just be skyrim mixed with mount and blade warband.
Becouse Game of Thrones is all about good writing, something which the videogame industry struggles with the most.
There is. It's called The Witcher. Seriously though, CD Projekt Red would absolutely nail a game like that after the books and show have ended. Much like The Witcher takes place after the books. If they were to do it, it should not be until they have freshened up after C2077.
there is no freedom because the world and characters are already established. if you could create your own character and play the game as you want then maybe it would be a great game plus there is not much fighting in the series.
I liked the tell tale version.
