A Game Of Thrones RPG would never work

The appeal of a Game Of Thrones RPG is obvious, but a video game adaptation of the hit tv series and novels would never work.

If they base it off the TV show, sure I can see it being bad considering the show is already pretty “gimped” when compared to the books.

The TV show probably wouldn’t transfer to well into a game, but at the same time it’s the most known version of the story.

Itheres tons from the book that they could pull from and bring to life better than the tv show would.

Not really, the Telltale game used the license and there are shitty browser/mobile games using the license. That's a non-issue.

Idk why everyone thinks it would have to be based on the tv show, when the book has a vast amount of material that differs from the TV series that would make it better suited for a game adaptation.

Monolith with that nemesis system would be interesting, but I agree with the general consensus, CD Red would do wonders. Personally though, if it ever happens, I would much rather they choose a different timeframe than that of the TV Show. There's so much lore to pick from.

Of course it could. It's all about getting into the hands of the right developer who isn't being told by their publisher to get a crappy game out quickly and slap "Game of Thrones" on it.

The game could be set before the events of the show like the spinoffs. It would be better to introduce new characters and storylines than just repeat the shows story. This would give the devs a lot more freedom. There are thousands of years to play with on westeros and essos.

And adaptation would not work. It rarely does. An RPG set in the GoT world might. Shadow of Mordor got it right. That's the model to follow.

Depends on your point of view, from a Tolkien fan's point of view, all of the video games based on that world are an absolute bastardization and a travesty. Shadow of Mordor might be a good game, but it and it's successor trample the lore and makes the vast majority of true Tolkien fans cringe. I think any sort of GoT game would do the same for the fans of the series and the books.

It could definitely work. Basically any realistic medieval rpg could be reskinned and you have a nice Game of thrones game. The most difficult part is to have a good story.

I mean yeah you couldn't realistically have a full on open world RPG that told the entirety of the story of the books/show from start to finish but there's no reason why a game couldn't focus on a specific part of it and tell a narrower (yet still epic) story.

If characters being too heroic and hard to kill is a big problem just borrow a bit of the realistic combat and survival elements from Kingdom Come Deliverance, but do it better ideally.

well another poorly thought out article that is absolutely wrong ….

DA: Inquisition was an RPG that had you play the head of the Inquisition, you had spies and diplomats you could send on missions from the war table. You could capture area's and increase you power, and you had dialogue choice.

so saying something can't be done when something similar has been done is sorta looney, and that was just 1 game as an example.

and no one is saying that the time frame of the game had to be the same as the shows … you can adapt and create an earlier or later time within the universe.

By doing so you could allow the player to create their own house and like from older games such as the original Battlefront 2 galactic conquest or Mount & Blade's battle for castles and towns. You can have battles where you lose or regain territory.

Maybe I should be put in charge of these types of decisions since people seem limited by their imaginations and what is actually able to be done in a fashion people would like ??
